It's more here thing than mine, but I'll oblige.

I'm fit, active...exercise pretty much daily (running), and I play in a couple of sports rec leagues.

Wife is pretty fit, but would like to drop +/-5 lbs and get more "tone".

So, what am I up against?
Is it really "insane"? Should I expect to be hobbling and writhing in pain for 60 days?
Is it hype?

What's the low down?
The warmup will kick your ass for the first week or two.

It's all cardio and bodyweight, jumping, squatting, pushups, burpees, etc... High intensity with short breaks.

I lost ~25 pounds, but was eating really strictly, low calorie diet, very little carbs after noon.

My interest is in the "intensity" of the workouts. I've done some pretty intense stuff before, just interested in how insanity compares.

I don't need to lose any weight. I've got pretty much little to zero body fat.

When you say stick to the diet plan, is that for weight loss or for energy?
As far as intensity goes, one of my friends who was in the Army equates Insanity to the closest thing to boot camp he's done since he's been out. As far as diet goes, I had to increase my calorie consumption to around 2800-3000/day. Here's a link to a decent calculator to figure out how many you'll need:
http://www.ibodyfit.com/calc-mycalories.php

With insanity, you'll probably be in the Moderately Active or Very Active categories.

I combined it with a restricted diet, managed all my diet intake on one of the websites where you enter in all the foods that you eat (a pain the first time) and then simply check off what you eat day to day so you can keep exact track of your calorie count.

Some days I would only have 800 calories, others I would top out around 1400-1600. I tried to change it up, but honestly I had a tough time going over 1200/day. Once I started hammering out the insanity workouts, I felt like "why would I eat a lot of food? ShaunT is just going to wipe the floor with it tomorrow..."

No joke, I had to mop the floor after I worked out each time.

So I started.

Did the fitness test last night.
It was pretty hard core.

I was killing it until IIRC the 6th out of 8th exercise. Then it got tougher.

I enjoyed the workout, but I gotta ease of just a bit as I was trying a bit too hard to keep up or beat the peeps on screen. That's just nuts!

I don't need to puke or pass out
I can see how that can easily happen.
So much sweat it looked like I took a shower.
Gotta drink a ton of water to stay hydrated.

Looking forward to the rest of the way.
59 days to go.

Awesome!

I remember how great it felt the first time I could make it through all three rounds of the warmup without pausing for a break!

That's not to say it was easy by any means, but she got through it.

Didn't have to hit the "pause" button during the fitness test.

I dunno how progressively intense it will go from here on out as I've only done the fitness test.

Perhaps the "pause" button will be hit in day 2, or 3, or 4.....?

Finished day two on to day three.

Warm ups were pretty tough for being "warm ups", but got through them with no issues.

Crazy insane near the 3 or 4th time around the circuit.
I drank a TON of water before during and after

Not too sore today, just a bit in some areas. I'm digging it, and ready to continue on.

^^

Keep in mind I'm not doing this to loose any weight, otherwise I'll look like Yummy.

Doing it for the challenge, and to get some tone & definition.

Day 3 down, on to day 4.

Update: Finished the first week.

Pure Cardio was pretty intense.

Loving it so far, and already seeing more definition in muscle tone.

I've noticed I need to consume more calories than I thought to keep up with the muscle building. Since I started with a lean build, I don't want to waste away to a twig.

Doing the next workout after the first recovery day is quite a bit of a different experience.

I found I had much more stamina & speed after allowing the body one day of recovery.

All I hear are crickets.
I almost finished it ....I was six days away from finishing it when I got really sick sometime in March. I stopped for about a a week and half until I got better....then my daughter got sick and made me sick again for another 2 weeks.

Before you know it a month passed and I just went back to the gym as I didn't want to start it all over again.

Pros:
- if you eat right, you'll definitely get much leaner
- my cardio endurance improved a lot - no more huffing and puffing so much after playing football
- relatively easy on the time frame, 1st month is about 40 minutes, 2nd month about an hour

Cons:
- you are sore for the ENTIRE 60 days (I bought the recovery drink the 2nd month and I felt like it did make me a little less sore)
- the 1st month rotates around 3-4 exercises, can get boring quick
- the 2nd month is tough, I found myself trying not to go all out since I knew there was so much more ahead.....compared to the first month where I felt like I worked harder and to my fullest since the workouts were shorter

If you want to lose weight and get leaner, I recommend it.....BUT you HAVE to eat carbs and you really can't diet. You'll feel like crap if you don't have any carbs in your body.....the nutrition plan actually tells you that you need to eat.

Good luck! PM me if you have any questions!

I've found that in my second week, I'm not really all that sore.

First week it was true that I was sore, but not so far in the second week.

^^ Trust me, I am. I'm completely spent at the end of the routines, just don't have crazy muscle soreness.

The right shoes, plus a gym floor mat make all the difference in the world.
....and paying very close attention to what you eat immediately after the work outs.

Potassium! Eat those bananas asap

Man, I did p90x a few years ago and yeah, it makes a difference...no, I didnt like the video or the host.

Im much happier doing intense yoga flow and riding my bike along the beach. And it makes a difference, too. :-)

I've seen clips of the P90x guy... that guy drove me nuts in about 30 seconds. No thanks.

Shaun T is a great lead guy as far as Insanity goes.

Hard boiled egg, whey protein shake/drink are my go to's quite often.
Banana is a decent way to go, but it should not be the only thing you reach for.

Interesting - everyone I have talked to was sore for the entire workout. But maybe the banana really does work - even though there was a bunch of pottasium in the Recovery Drink which did help a little bit

Keep in mind that I said "I'm not really all that sore", not I have no soreness at all.

I've spoken to a couple of people that have gone through Insanity a few times, one has a similar fitness background to me, he was in the same boat as me when it came to soreness.

Soreness to a point, but not walking around like an 85 year old, like some have said.

I would chalk it up to one's level of fitness before they started the program.

That being said, Pure Cardio kicks my @ss!! I can't imagine the 2nd half of this 60 days.
Nuts!

I've upped my calorie intake, and that appears to have made a difference in terms of fatigue.

I'd do this again, but I need to lift weights.

I've done all these programs and all I've lost was mostly lean mass. Body stuck at 25% BF...

P90x I did go down to 23% but the program ended and I went on a cruise...

^^ It might be a good idea.

If you are busting your @ss doing P90x, Insanity, et al, and not dropping the weight, then it's gotta be on the "intake" side of things and not the "burning" side of things.

Maybe you have a thyroid condition

No I'm losing weight. I've lost like 60lbs.

it's probably a mix of some fat and lean muscle.

I'm just saying right now, I want to drop my BF since its still hovering around 25%.

I've read that in order to cut BF you have to life weights. Cardio will burn everything. Lean mass and BF. something like that.

Gotcha. yeah - the first few weeks I walked around like a granny cuz my legs/quads were so sore. The 2nd month I still felt soreness but was able to walk normally.

Now that I am done - i still do this maybe 4-5 times a month when it is cardio day and I don't feel like going to the gym. I think it's a better workout than the ellipitcal or the treadmill

miz, it's all diet.

try one of the diet monitor sites like MyFitnessPal.com. Enter in everything you eat, check off the consumption daily and you will start to see the problem areas.

also, for anyone who gets bored with the Insanity workouts and needs a nice home-based change-up, check out Fitnessblender.com. You pick the style and duration and then click play. All free.

Dude I have been watching my diet. I've been very meticulous when it comes to logging what I eat.

Week 2 is complete.

Pure Cardio and Cardio Abs to end the week.....yowza!

I assume they are to be done back to back.....which is what I did.
Finished pure cardio, then pressed play and cardio abs.

Let's just say it was not easy.
