How fast can you run a mile?

It's been years since the last time I was timed, but I remember it being in the high 8 minutes. I never ran super fast.

True. Are we talking track, street race, or cross-country course?

Pfft.
Hell if I know.
You can tell by my time that I don't run often.

Just under 8 on a track. I'm starting a running program so I can (hopefully) run 3 miles in 20 minutes or less.

I think I was one of the fastest guys in my school, but I've never timed myself in a mile.

I hate running without some sort of game involved.

Depends who/what is chasing me.

I was never fast. Ran a sub 6 or 7 mile in HS, but would probably be around 10 minutes now since I haven't ran in a few years. My 5k times were around 30 mins.

I used to be pretty damn fast IMO at one point in middle and high school.... but generally I'm pretty slow. Just don't have the lungs. My fastest was probably mid 6's, which I only ran maybe a handful of times when I was in decent shape. When I was a lazy lumbering fatass I ran low 9's. Now it's probably in the 9 range

x 2... Miz has company... I haven't run in years.

In college 23+ years ago , I warmed up before weight training and/or basketball 4 to 6 days per week by jogging on the track, and was at a 6.5-minutes-per-mile pace to get the heart rate up to the proper level.
I never ran a timed mile at full speed, but guess a mid-5 minute mile would have been pretty easy... waaaay back then.

~10 min

Ive just started going to the gym again after taking a year off. However even at that point I had been in the gym multiple times a week and running each and every time and I still couldn't run very much with out being extremely winded. Someone had suggested that I get my lungs checked out but that hasn't happened yet. Oh and im not a smoker or anything like that.

When i timed my self in November i got a mile in at like 8:20ish. Now since I have been running since then I'm sure I could do it b/w 7-8 minutes. Actually may time myself as part of my run after work.

I just went from weighing 135 to 150 in about a month thanks to more beer and less exercise than usual..... so I think I'll choose 8-9 minutes

Is the whole mile all at once, or can I do like 20 yards a day and just add up the times?

Just out of curiousity does weight play a factor? I'm 200 lbs but I'm 5'8 so I'm not exactly skinny. Is anybody that size or just pretty heavy for the height breaking into low 7s?

6' 145

i did run a 5:02 last sept, but i am not doing that run again. I was running for 6 weeks after being off for 15 years. If i had 6 months of running in, i could have had a 4:40

5'10" 160 lbs. I haven't seen any 200 lbs running sub 5's recently but it's certainly conceivable. IMO distance runners tend to be lanky.

Haven't run a mile since High School, but my best time then was 7:08.

I was sprinter, never really cared for long distance running or was very good at it.
