^ I was planning to hand wash my car on Friday but ALL the coin/ops had line ups. I just said f it. Rather have a layer of crud on my car than to use a those coin/op brooms.

I never use the brooms.

I bring my wash bucket with soap and a microfiber mitt.

Put in my $5, quickly rinse the car and quickly use my wash bucket.

One time, there was a line up and I used the bucket method and the owner told me I can't and I have to leave.

Pulled my car out of the bay and approached the guy. I told him he just kicked me out when I had time on the clock since I paid $8 (opposed to $3 minimum charge).

He apologized and thought I didn't have time on the clock

Nothing cleans you car better than handwash method.
Even a wash with the highest pressure won't remove embedded grime in your paint. That's why I don't go touchless, either.

Most of this winter I haven't had the patience to bring my wash stuff to a coin-op. Until it warms up I'll just be rinsing or using touchless washes.

Same here, high pressure coin wash/ touchless car wash over the winter, then deal with the embedded build up with a clay bar detail in the spring.

im kinda lucky in that my work has a power washer so every couple of weeks i give the car a quick rinse. i don't see any point in really washing the car in the winter. its going to get discussing as soon as you take it outside.

Went to a coin-op today and just did a high pressure wash. Car still looks a bit dirty, but much better than before.

I noticed some rock chips on my hood have rusting though.. I filled some in with the perfect match pen from Canadian tire, and then just clear coated others. Will this prevent further rusting or does something else have to be done?

Went to the coin wash the other day... tripped a bit and poked the nozzle against my rear quarter panel. Usually it wouldn't do anything as most of them have a rubber stopper at the end. NOPE NOT THIS ONE. Now there's a gash in my new paint. God dammit.
Then I realized that someone hit my C pillar and along the roof line (Thanh knows). Before I wasn't sure but after close investigation of two spots on my C pillar I have concluded that some bastard vandalized my car...

Then I drove it today and all the melted snow ruined yesterday's wash -____-

ouch.. that sucks

you gotta be careful with pressure washers

i've seen strong machines strip paint right off.

as for winter protection.

3 coats of collinite 845 in december.
salt and dirt comes right off until at least march april.

best of all is that you can do it yourself.

Car wash - Read up on car detailing and how to properly wash and care for your paint - also watch your step when washing your car

Bad drivers - Get a dashcam so you can record any incidences.

Vandalism - Dashcam would help with this. Also, installing a shock sensor/tilt sensor to the factory alarm would help also.

Pot holes - Know your route and its potholes when commuting. Get to know where they are. Keep good distance between car in front, otherwise by the time the car in front goes over the pot hole, by the time you see it, it's too late.

Started a convo with the guy, he said he hes not on this forum but he thinks he bought from a regular on this site.

Hes almost at 300k km, basic repairs, basic maintenance using dw-1 tranny fluid...his tranny is still running good...i was shocked

This is kind of challenging, especially this winter, with so many deep new holes opening up. Downtown they're everywhere and most aren't safely avoidable. Outside, speeds are high enough that you normally won't see them until it's too late. I'd rather hit a pothole than brake hard and risk getting rear-ended.

but you get rear ended even when you're parked. You're not safe anywhere!

literally just as my licence got clear of all tickets i receive a shitty 10 over. I've bitched about the roads in hamilton before but seriously i didn't know we even had roads that bad until i went to hamilton.
