Let me know how your project goes. I have my OEM tails sitting in my room that I want to open up, so I'd love to hear some feedback on doing it

Take ur time, and try and keep the cut str8 and smooth as possible, makes it easier to seal back up. Oh don't forget take ur time n don't rush. Don't cut too deep or you'll cut thru the bezel. An extra set of hands to hold the light while u cut helps too.

Change of plans. Just bought the black/cleared tail lights, so I'm going to use the smoked ones to cut open. I'm putting my OEM base 08 tails on kijiji after work, but if anyone is interested let me know and I can give a decent price on them.

And thanks pearl, I need to get my hands on a dremel haha

If you've removed your bumper and headlights before, 20mins tops.

Will do

And honestly I think smoked tails are just too dark for silver. Not really feeling the big clump of black, since you can barely see the bezel. Even when I first bought them, I liked them, but didn't really love them. I think the ghost tails will look a lot better with my colour car. Just my opinion.

Also, I'll be cutting open the smoked DEPO's to mess around with to try and make some custom tails that are even better than the ghost ones.

I'll update this thread on any progress.

Don't even need to remove the bumper, I did mine threw the fender, u just have to go by feel for the 1 torx screw on each side. Its even harder to get the screw back in so I just left it out.

The only thing, you might not like the output of the bulbs not because of the color but because of the actual performance of the bulbs compared to OEM. There could be a possibility of the cut off line being weird or just plain sucks...just a heads up!

Well I actually need to take off my bumper anyways to take off the rest of the black on the outside of the grille, so I might as well take off the headlights. I need to reseal it a bit anyways.

Yeah I'm expecting to sacrifice a bit of quality for sure. I just can't stand the yellow from the OEM's beside my switchbacks, it just looks terrible lol. Cut off won't bother me too much, I'll just be happy with the crisp white/bluish colour instead of the yellow appreciate the heads up though man

That's butyl tape works wonders, I think I'll reseal my headlights over again using it.

Use 3M window sealant from NAPA.
You get a lot more, it's cheaper, and it's local so no waiting for shipping.

I can't believe I was paying $40 for Nissan butyl at the dealer.

I would use a bead of clear silicone in addition to the butyl around the channel to make sure no leaks.

6000k DDM Tuning bulbs are in!

Very simple and easy install as you guys mentioned.

Stock:

6000k on the right, stock on the left:

Both bulbs in:

Ripped off all the black on the outer portion on the grille:

The bulbs don't match to the switchbacks during the day, but I never run the low beams during the day, so hopefully it'll match better at night. It comes out more blue in pictures anyways:

And this shows a good comparison from stock to 6000k:
