Why don't you try talking with your wife? Mention that the regular dinners doesn't make you feel comfortable, especially since the guy seem to always pay for the meals.
By the way, has the dad of your daughter's best friend extended a dinner invitation to you? Or is it always just with your wife?

Step 1 would be to talk to your wife. Let her know that you are uncomfortable. This entire situation sounds fishy. I would see how she reacts. If she is defensive and gets argumentative then I would get a PI. IMO, you have to know either way.
My wife and I are friends with another family. Our kids have been friends since they were 1. We went to vacation together. I've taken my son out with the other mom and her son. What makes it OK is that our spouses know 100% that there is nothing shady. In your case it sounds like the not knowing is killing you. Satisfy your curiosity and talk to her.

I'm crazy, and I'd leave myself as an opening statement.
But what would you do if you wife went to dinner (a few times a week) with your only daughter's best friend's dad? His house is twice mine, and he supposedly has a girlfriend in another state. He has custody of his only child. But they all go together and sit as one happy family.
They roll in around midnight, and she (my wife) can never produce a receipt where she paid for herself and my daughter. David always pays... such a gentlemen.
I really would not give a crap, but I pay every bill coming into the house. She takes her money and spends it as a sailor, and then two days after being paid she wants money for gas in the Acura RL I bought.
I may be signing off, there is limited access to the net in prison.

Or, why cant you come? Have you asked her to come along?
That's wrong on her end, to keep up with that.
Hopefully you can have a talk with her and tell her how you feel, and she'll understand and quit it.

this was nearly 2 months ago, professor seems to not have gone to jail, not sure what else. my opinion if its not resolved?
Dont bother with the PI, with the lawyer, confronting the guy, tailing them, none of that crap. nowadays, the thing nearly every relationship lacks is communication and honesty. why not just ask her whats up? just say your curious why she goes out to dinner with him more than she does with you. either she'll confess, or say nothing is happening. you'll know from the body language, but you can always get a PI later. for now just ask. if she finds out you got a PI and talked to your lawyer, and didn't ask her, and she's not doing anything, your screwed. you don't want her going behind your back, why go behind hers?
