I'm going to propose - UPDATE: He did it! (Pg. 5)
IMO, both of those rings are a bit too busy for my liking. This is what I got my fiancee:

It's got a bit more "flair" than a standard solitare, but it's not too busy. It looks better in person actually than the pictures.
But of course, that's just my and my fiancee's choice. If your girl has a design that she likes, go with it because ultimately she's going to be the one wearing it.

Everyone has their own taste. I prefer smaller and better quality over big and not-so-good quality. I like 'some' bling, but not too flashy.
Thanks. Although I didn't get it from Blue Nile. I got it from the Leo Ingwer store in the diamond district in NYC (www.leoingwer.com). I really like some of their designs (ahem, vas25tl, check them out). I just bought the casting from them, but I think they sell finished pieces also.
I ring shopped for more than two years before I bought. If you're trying to save, try looking for real man made diamond. The only problem is they are relatively limited in the size they can make but are a fraction of the cost. Your girlfriend might like that style of ring but this is an engagement ring. If she likes blue, get her a blue diamond..
Seriously though.. when you find the right ring, you'll know. Your gf will probably be happy regardless, just make sure you get her exact ring preference, solitaire, cut, color, ctw, clarity (this is the $ factor). I bought my gf a 2 ctw solitaire ring and it's bigger than you think. 1 ctw is more than enough bling factor.

vas25tl, just so you have some point of reference, the diameter of a 1 carat round stone is approx. 6 millimeters, so keep that in mind when looking at ring designs.
Thanks guys! I'll be proposing in about 2 weeks. She's flying out to Belarus to visit some family on Saturday for 10 days, I'll do it when she gets back..unless the ring comes within a few days..
Or you could surprise the hell out of her and fly out to Belarus a couple of days after her and proposer to her there.
thanks......If she gave more of a notice, it would have been possible...she decided this morning and got the plane tickets for her and her mom; initial plans were for August

Good luck to you Vas. This is very exciting. I'm glad you got the sapphire. I love them, personally. It's my favorite stone, no matter what color. They make a beautiful engagement ring.
We'll all be waiting to hear........

the matching earrings are a good idea too. I got my fiancee matching earrings for a graduation gift, and contracted my mom to make a Swarovski crystal, sapphire, and sterling silver necklace and bracelet to go along with them.this is what I matched them to
