you know what the difference between a wedding and a funeral is? At your wedding you get to smell your own flowers lol and every wedding comes with 3 rings the engagement ring, the wedding ring and the life long suffering. The one thing that i will make sure of is that diamond the is of high quality since it will be cheaper to upgrade the bands than the diamond in the future.

I think you might need to drop the ct. weight if you're going to be around $4k. You'd be surprised at what going down to .9-ish can do. Quality is better than quantity in most cases.

Well, for reference, a 1.18C, VVS1, F ring (with tiny diamonds along the band) goes for $21,800USD a couple years ago.

I agree. In the 1.25 ct weight I was looking at, they were between $5500 and $6500 just for the stone, depending if you wanted to mess with the color or maybe SI2. $4k for a 1 ct. will give you credible options. I think the ones I was looking at were $4800-ish in that weight.

In the setting the 1ct looked small and the 1.5 over-powered it. 1.25 was the nice compromise.

Holey #%*&, that's a big increase in diamond ring prices since my wife & I got ours in 1994!

1. I'm not too keen on the shape, but I'm not the one that would be wearing it. You need to find out what your future fiancee would like. You need to get a good deal on a ring she will like, not get her a ring just because you got a deal

2. Stay away from the mall and department stores. They regularly have 40%+ off sales - and still make healthy profits. That should tell you that they are ALWAYS over priced for fine jewelry.

I'm really trying to stay positive in this process! This isn't helping.
Are you a 1st time home buyer? If so, maybe you can try to get yourself the $8000 tax credit and put it towards the ring? The tricky part will be doing this without the fiance knowing about it.

did you look at the details for that?? it says it will be a F color and SI2-I1 clarity....the color is great (if the certificate were from a decent lab..but its not going to be, trust me) and the SI2-I1 is QUITE low on the scale, and again, this is also probably over-graded due to the fact that they will have a IGI or EGL cert. for it...not a GIA....you get what you pay for. I would stay away from this for sure. You are in milwaukee right? do yourself a favor, go to Shallow Jewelers and talk to a guy named Mike. He will take the time to EDUCATE you, show you good quality stones, not pre-set junk with worthless certificates. but be aware, @ 4k for a price range, you will be getting smaller in size. Sorry, but a GOOD 1 carat stone @ 4k does not exist. you can get 1 carat stones all day long for 4k but they are cloudy, included, flourecent or yellowish....

I'm back revisiting this subject.

So after months of thinking and finally receiving my tax credit, I'm back in the market.

Anyone know of decent places to get saphire rings?

I'm looking for something similar to this:

Any insight on where to shop? It needs to be a blue stone though.

You think your girl would go for something other than a diamond for her engagement ring?

Just throw in the color and take her with you. It seems like you are all over the place.

^I've changed my mind once in the last 3.5 months and only because she specifically told me that she doesn't want a traditional diamond and gave me a picture of a ring that she likes.

It's not a very easy process for me to pick out what she really likes but I know for sure I do not want to take her with me.

Absolutely! It's not all that uncommon. A lot of family heirloom rings aren't straight diamonds either, and a lot of people really enjoy that aspect of them as well.

Totally disagree.

That's a gorgeous ring. And don't expect it to be cheap. Emeralds, rubies, and sapphires cost a pretty penny when they're large with few inclusions and good color. That's a big stone. And those diamonds look pretty darn colorless.

I'd take that as an engagement ring any day and twice on Sundays.

It definitely won't be cheap, but I have more options in my price range than I did with diamond rings.

the blue one is very pretty, you can also check out bidz.com they have rings for a pretty good price, just make sure that you know all about the clarity and color of the diamond

I'm not a fan of either...... But it's more impt. what SHE likes, not what I like!.

If it were btwn. the two, I would (begrudgingly) pick the blue sapphire.

- seems cleaner with better lines than the pink sapphire

NOTE: The pink one is for reference of what she likes... She basically expressed to me that it's the TYPE of ring that she wants but with a blue stone.

IMO, both of those rings are a bit too busy for my liking. This is what I got my fiancee:

It's got a bit more "flair" than a standard solitare, but it's not too busy. It looks better in person actually than the pictures.

But of course, that's just my and my fiancee's choice. If your girl has a design that she likes, go with it because ultimately she's going to be the one wearing it.

Oh, and Good Luck! Also, I really suggest you look at some rings in person, because a picture doesn't always give you the best idea of what it looks like in person. For example, they often show rings with huge stones on it to look nice, but if you aren't getting the same size stone then it may not look good.

I actually have a round 1.51 ct, D clarity, SI3, VG/VG for sale. EGL certified. I can take a pic and text it to you, don't have a digital camera since I left it at the girl's house when I left her crazy ass. I paid $7950 for it, trying to sell it for $4750. It's just the diamond though.
