Any Alton Brown fans out there?
I think he's the greatest. I've got his cookbook and made many of his recipes, and they're all great. Not only that, you learn something on his shows and he's really damn funny. Met the guy in person and he couldn't be nicer.
For those making Thanksgiving dinner, you should try his recipe for brined roast turkey...I guarantee it's awesome!

The first time I did it (2 years ago), it came out with undercooked breast meat...and I followed the directions to the letter! So when I went to see him at Central Market last year, I gave him shit about it (nicely). Then he asks what size bird I was using. I tell him 10 lbs. So he says for a smaller bird, put the temp probe in the thigh...not the breast...and follow same directions.
It was awesome...

Where is my super sauce?
I like the set-up for his show -- focusing on a specific technique or ingredient, rather then recipe based cooking. I also like the rather analytical approach he has (once again -- technique based cooking).
This is similar to how I go about cooking, so I guess that's why it appeals to me.
...and we go on a tangent:
I find it interesting how in real life I'm the scientist and my wife is the artist, but in the kitchen I prefer the 'freedom' of the entree/sides (where I base the meal on a technique & ingredient rather then follow a recipe) while my wife prefers the rigidity of baking and dessert making (where measuring, precision, and order is everything).

I can whip-up stuff, saute, etc. The woman likes to bake & does it well...but I cannot bake well.
I think baking takes patience too...entrees usually get done fairly quick...not a whole lotta standing around, etc...

BBQ>Baking
But usually, your doing other prep work(salads, veggies, etc) while waiting for BBQ to get done. That's better than watching a cake bake...any day.

You should pick up his book "I'm Just Here For The Food". It's like his show only in print. Lots of great recipes that WORK and explanations to go along.

The sizzle in the Steak
Alton is great!!
Anyone watching the new Feasting on Asphalt?
Last years show was great, and this one is looking even better.
Hope Alton does not crash his motorcycle again this year.
