xBox 360 Worth it?

So Im thinking about buying an XBox 360 premium tomorrow at best buy and well as with anything like this I buy im a little aprehensive about it. First off, the main reason I want xbox 360 is to play gears of war cause it looks freaking amazing and fun to play. Halo 3 is also another plus for the system. On the other hand, I already own a PS3. I know that that the 360 has been having problems with something called the red ring of death as well.

Some Questions:
Does it come with wireless internet access?
How much is the xbox live thing and whats the difference between xbox live and xbox live gold or whatever?
Am I being a spoiled dumbass in buying a 360 while still owning a PS3 as many games come out cross platform?
How great is Gears of War, Bio Shock, and Halo 3(going to be)?

Wireless access costs extra, via a usb adapter (though supposedly some cheap ones work too)

xbox live is 50 bucks a year or 7.99 a month
Silver basically lets you download updates, patches, and I think buy stuff from the store. I think. Gold lets you actually play online with people.

probably

Bioshock is great, though I have it on the pc. Gears of war is fun in it's own way, but I find it best with friends online. I'm not much of a halo fan, but it's probably neat.

Damn the extra 100 bucks for wireless is kinda killing it for me right now. I was hoping it came with wifi with the premium. I mostly play games online multiplayer style and gears of war looked excellent for that.

I got the 360 because i liked the games better. I'm still not sure why I can't run it in 1080p though. I also had the ring of death that kind of pissed me off since it was a problem from the 1st day i got it. Took about 3 weeks to get it fixed. but it is back in action now and working well.

I bought one today! Premium with wireless adapter (oh well) and 1 year of gold live! I dunno how im going to get through work today. So far after playing 20-30 mins of gears of war, I have to say that its decent but pretty damn hard to get used to. Havent played multiplayer yet so we'll have to wait for my full review later.

Pfft. I got my X360 last Wednesday and all I've been playing is Geometry Wars!

And I went through the H2 campaign again, just for kicks.

I think its worth it. Bioshock is amazing, Halo 3 will also be awesome (though in a diff. way from bioshock). Gears was fun, and the online co-op was cool.

between those three you'll bet set with the fps

plus there's TONS of stuff to download on the arcade.

also GTA is coming out (fro both 360 and ps3) but i bet you it will be better for 360, as most cross platforms are rated higher for the 360

don't feel bad about your ps3 purchase. little big planet is coming, as is home, and also the locoroco game. good times all around

I wouldn't be so sure about this, no third installment of any game was any good compared to the others.

i.e. Tekken 3, Dead or Alive 3, Sonic 3, Street Fighter 3, Earthworm Jim 3, etc...

Personally everytime I go to EB games or Gamestop I can't find anything worth buying, the games aren't all that special, and don't qualify as must haves, except maybe Gears of War.

It's funny, but the $100 for wireless and the fee's for online every year were exactly what killed it for me. I wanted one for the same reasons as you, and when I saw the price drop I was all over it...till I found out the wireless thing and how expensive the online actually is (I thought it was $10-20 for the year)

Halo 3 is better than one and two...take it to the bank...and for sure multiplayer & online is going to be the best.

I bought an elite one this weekend. I took back my wireless adapter once I realized it doesn't support WPA2. Even though the manual says it, and there is an option for it in the settings, it still doesn't support WPA2. so ghey.

here's what I bought to connect my elite with my wireless network.

http://www.buy.com/prod/linksys-wga5.../10351886.html

Took about 3 minutes to setup and has been working just fine.

Are you using it?

I don't believe it has the option of WPA2.

I have it configured using WEP at the moment.

You can find the user guide here:

http://www.linksys.com/servlet/Satel...=2661945678B08

Although I looked through it and found no mention of WPA2.

I bout that same router for the ps3 when I had the 20 gig one and it wouldnt work for the life of me. I got the white 360 one that clips on to the back and it hooked up pretty easily but the connection on it is SOOOO slow.

Question for those of you who already have GOW: Why am I only getting like 7-8 online games to connect to when I search for servers? And all the servers have really bad connections for me. Is this because I have no live experience points and only connect to people that are new to the game like me (Im assuming most people had this game for a while so they would have high points)?

Also how much better is the 360 with HDMI cables?

it's not a router, it's an ethernet bridge.

When you do the network setup does it say "NAT" is okay.
and if not did you set up the ports on your router.
