The XBOX360 is due out this November. The PS3 isn't due for another year or more. They keep pushing it back. I'm sick of sony and their BS. They constantly make substandard electronics.

I think that by having the 360 come out this fall, it will capture a larger market share and then by the time the PS3 makes its debut, it will have lost too much that it won't be as strong as it used to be. Also the cost will probably insane.

I will buy both as well. I think PS3 is making a major mistake by waiting till next year to release it.

Mind you, I think it comes down to which is hacked first to be able to play "educational/trial" versions of the games.

But, I'll wait a bit for the 360 to go down in price. Besides, I have enough apps on the PS2 and Xbox right now to keep me busy for months.

I think the PS3 will win again this generation, but will command nowhere near the marketshare it has these last 2 generations (PS1 and PS2). Most analysts have predicted the same.

MS has 3 big things on their side this generation - momentum, a well established online community and an early release. Momentum is that they are coming off a great year with Halo2 being the game of the moment lately, they have a big lead over Sony in the online arena and releasing 6-12 months ahead of the PS3 is a big advantage. MS came a long way from having 0% market share to being second place (ahead of Nintendo) in only 4 years.

Damn, if only the presendential elections were handled through azine. We could have as many re-votes as we want!

And then if the person that wins isn't someone we like we could ban them!

The PS3 has some stiff competition this time around. The 360 is coming out earlier and is easier to program for. The 360 will need less work to make great graphics, the PS3 with its multicore processors will make it hard for developers to immediately take advantage of it's more powerful graphics. By the time programmers are able to take advantage of the system's capability, it will be at the end of it's lifespan. And these days, with multi platform games, i can see developers making the 360 and PS3 games that look very similar. Only 1st part games or exclusive titles will really take advantage of the more powerful PS3. Nintendo will quietly sneak in and take sales away from both systerms.

Both systems should be pretty difficult to program for, as both are multicore.. The 360 has 3 symmertrical PPC cores running at 3.2ghz. The Cell is somewhat similar with a single PPC core running at 3.2ghz in addition to 7 SPE's (small DSP-like co-processors that are great for FP calculations).

Don't always believe the marketing hype about the power of each machine. Here are some details I uncovered:

Theoretically, under ideal conditions Cell is 2x the power of the Xenos processor (360 processor), but that is quite a misleading quote because that is only under very specific useage scenarios (streaming high FP calculations). The overall performance seen between both systems should be very similar.

Look at it this way. The CPU in the PS2 had close to 3x the FP performance of the PIII 733mhz in the Xbox1, but look how much of a difference that made. The PIII was easier to extract power out of and had the GPU as well where the PS2 didn't.

The 360 and PS3 both have identical amounts of memory and their memory bandwidth is pretty similar as well (the slightly higher PS3 bandwidth is matched by the 360's EDRAM on it's GPU negating the need for FSAA operations to cross the main system bus)

Their GPU's also are almost of identical power as well. This is where you will really notice the difference in games. The CPU will help physics, but the GPU controls how well the graphics look. Each has it's strengths and disadvantages, but most believe both are a wash compared to one another.

The big advantage of the PS3 is Blu-Ray which will allow more storage space for games.

Don't believe the marketing speak from either side. Both systems will produce outstanding visuals. The quality of the games make the difference this gen.
