Sony: PS3 News and Discussion Thread
Crap, how do I turn off 3D on my PS3?
I set it up so that what i assumed would allow my ps3 to do 3D when I wanted.
Now it's loading up black ops by default in 3D and dropping my screen res to 720P.
I Can turn it off on my Tv but it looks like shit and still only 720P...

So...question for the PS3 peeps here: If you run out of hard-drive space from the pre-installed HD, how do you get more?
From what I'm hearing, taking an external HD and attaching it via USB does not work. It is readable...but, not writeable...?
So...is the only method to replace the internal HD...?

Yeah I only used an external to backup my save files and DLC so that I wouldn't have to redownload everything. I didn't want an external connected to it, if possible, since someone's bound to kick it at my house.
You can use a linux based live cd like knoppix that have a program called gparted to fudge the fat32 format on a larger drive. There are probably utilities that do it, but that is the way I'm familiar with.
Mine just came like that though.

Sony intros new PS3 Slim in Japan: lighter, consumes less power

Fresh from the Land of the Rising Sun comes news that Sony has updated the original PS3 Slim (CECH-3001B) with a lighter, less power-hungry model. The new Japanese PS3 CECH-3000B weighs in at 5.7 pounds -- as opposed to its 6.6 pound elder brother -- and even lowers its wattage to 200W from the previous 230W. The unit will retail at the same ¥34,980 price point (or $435 for the Yanks) as the original Slim, and while a relatively plain 320GB flavor seems to be on tap for now, a 160GB Tales of Xillia bundle will purportedly hit this September. No announcement has been made for its North American counterpart, but with the system already in the FCC's clutches, you can bet it'll be making an intercontinental trek in short order.

^^^^ yup, signed up last night forgot to post about it though.
I tried to sign up online but their website was down so I thought PSN was down, but it turns out they were just doing maintenance.

I actually seem to have more fun playing those kinds of games than the others. I've had way more fun playing Pikmin, Pikmin 2 and Mario Sunshine for Gamecube, than I did playing Halo 2 and Grand Theft Auto: Double Pack on my Xbox, back then
I got LBP and Dead Nation. Dead Nation is fun but annoying at times. Getting killed and having to go back to the checkpoint and redo the last 20 minutes of the game =
Picked up LBP and WipEout HD. The last time I played Wipeout was back on a demo with the original PS. Somethings never change, the game still sux. I'll give it a few more trys. LBP looks good so far.
Platinumed Dead Nation last night. Might play Wipeout a few more times; might not. Deleted LBP and inFamous; never played them, didn't really want to.
I was able to snag a couple of cool things due to having the PS Plus membership, although I'm not sure paying for it would be worth it. If you knew in advance some of things you would get, it would be helpful. As it is, it's a crap shoot.

curious, what are your habits with your PS3's? do you leave them on all the time? stream media from em? how many hours a week do you think you log in? any info would be helpful. thanks and I hope you can get it fixed or something!

I leave the red light on, as well. Use for two and half years was nominal; a few hours a day. Use since my job was eliminated in February has been significant; at least eight hours a day. I use it for Netflix and gaming. It's in a relatively open entertainment center, so the area it's in is never even warm (always room temperature).

Hmm..I don't play it THAT often. Usually, I'd play with my ps3 2 hrs each time and each week I would play 2 - 3 times. When GT5 first came out, I played more often, but still nothing crazy.
When I am not using the PS3, I'd turn it completely off (I don't leave the red light on).
Also, when I first got my ps3, it wouldn't recognized the disc when I put it a new disc in. However, when I place the PS3 up (so that it's vertical), it would be able to read the disc.
