Also annoying are those stupid evil 's that keep tossing those firebombs into your back.

But, yeah...when you do kick their keister...there is such a sweet satisfying feeling.

This game is getting fun, 3rd boss is tuff though. Dual swords are sweet.

seriousky...I liked the staff the best, but after flailing around the bladed nunchakus, it's a different feeling. I like how the different weapons really change the dynamic...

I'm a firm believer in the flails, pretty much from when you get them up to the second battle with Doku. Fast attack + endless combo = bloody goodness!!

And that's why this game is so deep and good.

And yet, I have the MGS series slotted ahead of this. It's finally good to be a PS3 owner.

I agree. The shame of me getting a PS3 was so strong that my Mom vowed not to have dinner with me next Saturday. It's terrible.

Oh well, I'll think about buying the superior God-almighty 360 when it comes in black (cuz it matches the furniture better).

...that'll be my salvation.

Persistence? Seems like even if you read the faqs it still takes a million tries.

Ya, about how many hours long is this game on average assuming you consider about 300 re-starts.

Just persistance, really.

This game is really like the Nintendo ones...hard but doable with enough practice.

I have yet to purchase myself a PS3 since I have yet to come across a game that really grabs my attention. To be honest, MGS4's storyline thus far simply doesn't interest me, but I do believe that Hideo, like always, will deliver once again. On the other hand, Lair does look mighty tasty....

I don't know all of the differences between SIGMA and the NG for Xbox. I was a big fan of fails as well, but towards the end of the game, I trusted the Dragon sword and the blood Dragon sword more than anything else. I love the thing Ryu does when he jumps towards an enemy with the sword and suddenly slash enemy's head off.

MGS4...? Well, if you are a fan of the MGS series, this should be the biggie of them all...from the way it looks the amount of time/effort put into it.

So like, I went back and replayed Chapter 8...and is it just me or is Rachel (as eye-candy-ish as she is) a lousy character? I can't for the life of me pass the Fiend challenge at the military gates.

I gave up after 15 tries and just beat up Gamov to end the stage again.

So, I backtracked recently because I forgot about the Fiend challenge in the cathedral (in the library) and also to really give the Fiend challenge with Rachel a good last effort (which I failed miserably in)...

However, I did try out fighting Alma a few times and this strategy worked 5 out of 6 times for me (and the reason why I failed one of them was because my timing was brutal): Have the Firewheel Ninpo equipped as well as the Dragon Sword. Once the fight starts, make use of the Flying Sparrow attack (the move where you jump towards and Ryu does a slash midair towards the enemy). If you connect successfully, Alma will hit the ground...as soon as she does, Ninpo with the Firewheel and as it is burning her, go nuts on a combo as fast as you can. Repeat throughout.

As for defence, just be ready to roll and avoid her object throws. If she gets ready to use her Ninpo on you, I have found dashing at her and then getting ready again with the Firewheel to work. The one move you have to be careful of is where she catches you in midair and combos and then slams you down. So, when that happens (and it has happened to me on average 2-3 times in each of my fights with her), just make sure you have potions handy.

Other things I factored in:
- My Dragon Sword in this fight was fully upgraded to 3 stars by this point.
- I had 4 Ninpo triggers at this point.
- I had 6 regular potions as well as 4 full potions at the ready (best fight only resulted in me using 3 regular potions)
- I had also Devil Elixirs ready as well. This is to replenish my Ninpo and I always ended up using one. Please keep in mind that spamming Ninpo won't help since the Firewheel surrounds you. So, you must hit her and get her to the ground first before you use it.

You sound like you're missing some items/treasures. By the time you meet Alma, you should have:

- 4 slots available for Ninpo use
- Collected enough Life of the God orbs to complete one circle to increase your health
- Collected 4 (or 5? Sorry, don't remember) Lives of the Thousand Gods
- 20 Scarabs
- Nunchunks
- Lunar
- Wooden Sword
- War Hammer/Axe
- Vigoorian Flails
- Dabilahro
- Dragon's Claw and Tiger's Fang
- Windmill Shuriken
- Smoke Bomb
- Incendiary Surikens
- Bow

Well, not sure what you're missing but if you're missing a chunk from that list I just gave you, I think you need to go back to a previous save point and redo some areas, dude.

Honestly, you need all the help you can get. Mind you, just the thought of refighting some of those bosses can be hair-raising too.

Well, if you're missing a tonne of stuff, it sounds like you may hafta go back to point where you first enter the cathedral with Ryu.

Sorry, PLH.

Your call. It's just that the boss fights aren't going to get easier.

Speaking of which, any of you guys beat Doku on Stage 2 before...? I died and didn't even think of attempting to beat him until my friend told me that you can indeed "beat" him at that point.

Although, I don't imagine I would have the skills to do it.
Very low health meter coupled with few items = -city

Well, I had to restart from a previous save-point because every stat enhancement IMO is vital to surviving.

From what I know, the only two "challenges" I have passed up so far are:
- The Fiend challenge for Rachel (right at the military gates); same stage where Gamov is the boss
- Beating up Doku (well, I didn't know...just thought it was a new perk to "fight" him for realism instead of just a CG scene); I don't know what happens if you beat him...

Up to you, dude...I'd recommend it but like I said, I can imagine it's not too appealing to redo stages and refight tough bosses.

well in all honesty as much crap as we give to the tough bosses, it kidna is nice to back and redo a challenge, especially since most of the games these days have little challenge. The fiend challenge for rachel got broing real quick. and her long distance thing sucks balls...she's too slow...glad you don't have to go thru the game with her...

Well, the problem with that fiend challenge is that she's no match for a long and stretched out series with Shadow Fiends and Dragon Fiends. Like, her power is fine for taking on the Dragons...but, the Shadows are so fast and they sneak in attacks while you're busy with the Dragons.

And it's fine and all for about 4-5 sequences but then, your health becomes an issue and you run out of potions. I couldn't do it. And all of Rachel's stages I have come up with bad ratings as a Hunter. Whereas for Ryu, I've never been graded worse than "Master Ninja".

hahaha...you've been doing better than me...I was like weak ninja ro some shit like that...and yes rachel can handle the dragons, but when they are both spitting fire and the other guys come in, that's usually where i lose it...
