PS2 problem

So I went to EB games today to pick myself up a copy of GT4 and I was happy to find out it was only $60(can). When I get home and put the disk in my PS2, it didn't go directly into the game and then gave me the disk read error when I selected "Browser." I attempted this again before taking the disk out in disgust. When I looked at the game, I noticed circular scratches all around the middle of the disk that had been caused by my playstation. I took the game back and was given another copy, only to have a similar outcome. The thing that I don't understand is why my PS2 is doing this to GT4, but works fine when I play other games, like GTA San Andreas? Does anyone know what it will take to get my playstation to stop fucking up? Do I need to take it to a shop, or can I do it myself? I really want to play GT4 now that I have bought it.

is your ps2 modded? if it is some modchips cannot read dvd9 disks after its been modified. this will explain why it will not boot. the scratches however are a whole another story.

if you call sony, you can send it in and they will fix or replace it. I had a similar problem with the disk read error and they fixed mine up for free, even though its been out of warranty for years.

No, its not modded. It was one of the original PS2's that came out about 3 years ago. The second copy of GT4 I got actually worked when I put it in, but I could hear the machine scratching the disk. So when I turned it off and pulled it out I saw more of the same scratch marks on the new disk. I have yet to put the game back in my ps2, because i want no more scratches. I did take the game to my friend's house where it worked fine on his PS2.

How long did it take Sony to fix or replace yours? I want to get this done as quickly as possible, it's tough to sit around with GT4 infront of me, unable to play it.

I did the same. They have it for a week. Try other games though. Check www.gamefaqs.com for a PS2 Hardware FAQ.

yeah....they had mine a week. with shipping, it was gone 10 days I think.

it was great of sony to do that. my ps2 is really old, like from the first year of production. I had planned on buying a new one when it busted, but I called them and they offered to fix it for free. made me so happy with sony, I didn't even consider any other brands when I bought my new tv.

Problem Solved!!!

Want an easy solution???

BUY THE NEW SLIM PS2 FOR $149.99...

If you don't want two PS2's and you want to get it for a cheaper price... try this...

First you can go and trade in your old PS2 at EBgames... that will get you a credit of say... 50 to 100 bucks... depending on how used or whatnot the PS2 you have is... Then pay the diffrence in getting the new one... Problem solved...

GO DO IT SO YOU CAN PLAY GT4 TOMORROW!!!

I still can't believe they fixed my 3 year old PS2 for free and it was done in only a week. They have great customer service.

you know you can open your older model ps2 up a clean the eye dont you, mine started giving me the disc read error before sony was willing to replace/fix the problem so it was either open and fix or fork out 200 dollars on a new system ( i bought mine with in 6 months of them coming out), so i opened it and cleaned the eye it started working just fine and started playing everything like it did when i first bought it.

No need to void the warranty by opening it. The reason why they do the free repair is because it is defective. There was going to be a lawsuit against Sony.

The problem isn't so much that its not reading disks, but the fact that it scratches the hell out of GT4 in a circular shape. I can still play other games fine without this problem, but as soon as I put in a copy of GT4 (new or slightly scratched) I can hear the machine ruining the disk. I will contact sony in the next little while to see what they can do about the problem, but right now I seem to have a bigger problem as I may have written off my CL today.

Mine did the same thing 6 months ago. Send it in and they'll fix it. It ruined 3 copies of NCAA 2005 before it was fixed.

Nope. I had my first PS2 standing the whole time since it came out at launch with 0 problems. I sold it as I had 2 PS2's (got the 2nd for cheap) to my friend and he's had no problems. My 2nd one was made like 2 yrs after launch and crapped out.

When I got my invoice they replace a few parts. Wasn't just a clean if the invoice was accurate.
