First time I ever played the beta though, I played a medium AI.... got all the hotkeys wrong, and had no idea what more advanced units did, but caught on pretty quickly. and I won

just played a very hard AI for the first time the other day though... surprised me. TvP I did a semi-quick expo with a decent force (8-9 marines, a few marauders and a hellion) protecting it, then the computer rushed with a few zealots, stalkers and a colossus

I walled off my base too so there's no way they could have known I was going for mostly bio. Surprise, the computer hax like in BW.

I taught my gf how to play. and she usually plays toss against very hard terran. the ai seems pretty good. haha

you know what's funny though? her first zealot can NEVER kill ai's scouting SCV. you just can't touch it while SCV is like dancing around her base. lol

Damn.... that's crazy. She must be pretty good. Really though, MBS has made this game a lot easier in terms of macro. And maybe its just cause the game just came out but it seems like there's a ton of tips and guides on youtube, and not to mention my friends always tell me about those videos, so I'm slowly getting better and better but I still play mostly custom maps.

lol, 2 weeks ago I had no idea what MBS meant, or FE/fast expo, macro, etc. Automining, too. And rally points that follow units (don't remember if they did in BW, I never did it)

mbs = multiple building selection. ctrl + click on a building and it will select all of them. Oh and thanks to JS, I learned to just select all unit production buildings and then press tab to switch between them. also try and group my upgrade buildings too.

oh and queuing up commands with shift is so useful too.... since I'm not gosu like JS. haha

Lol I know none of these hot keys/macros/shortcuts. Yet I still can kill V. Hard CPU Co-op and solo. The short cuts aren't really necessary tbh.

Speaking of, how do you select all units of a certain type while they're in motion? I know you can double click one unit while it's still. Can't tell you how many Viking rushes failed because I couldn't switch between ground/air in time.

There's probably a better way, but I select everything and then ctrl + click the wireframe of the unit I want. Will select only those.

Speaking of Viking rushes, anyone know of a way to just select a certain amount of units (from the unit info area on the bottom of the screen) in a group? For example, maybe all my Vikings are in the air, but I want to select all but four of them to transform into walker mode.... but how I do it is I shift + click to de-select four of them but that's a little clumsy

like JS said though, just hold ctrl + hold shift then select a Barracks, Factory and Starport, and then bind then all to 2. When you press 2 it will select your barracks by default, then just tab to go to your factory, and again for starports. Also works with engineering bay/armory, which I usually bind to 3

Hotkeys/shortcuts/control groups really only save you a few seconds at most, but all of those seconds can add up over the course of a game. And sometimes a sizable army can be destroyed in seconds

Shift queuing one SCV to build several supply depots using hotkeys only saves a bunch of time, and makes sure I don't have any peons sitting around doing jack

lol, yea when I attack i dont micro to much haha. Only with certain units. Mainly helions and vikings. Now unless I wanna destroy certain buildings I'll micro that. But if I send an army in I dont micro to much unless its those specified up above. Ohh and banshee's as well.

When people attack do you attack 1 unit at a time with SHIFT queuing? So if you have 10 marines going against 6 marines do you just let them attack all the marines or do you select marines 1-6 of the enemy?

I've started to do it in the campaign and it seems to help out a lot.. I had 14-16 marines & 4-6 medics and took out huge waves of protoss ships (names escape me right now sigh) without losing any marines on hard difficulty.

Oh that definitely helps out, a lot. But truth be told I don't do it much except much later in the game when I don't need to focus on base building and management/macro. Lets just say I mass BCs (noob, I know) I keep an eye on them, if one of the wireframes starts getting orange/red, I move that one to the back of the group, then command it to attack/attack move again so it doesn't die.

It really depends... sometimes your units will be in range but they're too busy trying to get around to attack that one unit you selected, which means wasted firepower. But ideally even 7 on 8, if your 7 marines focus fire on one marine at a time, you'll probably win.

Marines, while great, are just meatshields for my tanks or other big units It's really important to do that later on though... if I have a bio ball and they have a colossus, I focus fire on that fire since it'll own my army. Or if I have Vikings and they send void rays or carriers, I focus fire on them one at a time.

I recommend everyone who hasn't to play the single player challenges on the hardest difficulty and beat them all. You're forced to micro and it really did help me learn a lot, especially about the Zerg and Protoss units which I never play as.

Is there another way to see your avg apm other than in replays?

I remember I looked at one game and my avg apm was like 25 lol, but that was in the beginning of the game, towards the end I didnt have that thing open i had the unit count thing.

Yes. If you have 10 marines selected and you are up against 4 void rays just right click on void ray #1 then hold shift and click on the remaining 3. Your marines will attack #1 until it's dead and continue through the queue.

Yeah it's really useful.. The mission in the campaign where you have to steal the special gas from the protoss I kicked ass with a lot of marines and a couple medics.. Annihilated the protoss.

long team games are especially fun. when 4 people just clash with so many units in the middle of the map. lol my comp is working really hard not to lag the game bahaha
