I don't want to open it up. I just chalk it up to my magic towel

Because there are so many great games out for the PS3 and the online experience is so much better.

My magic towel > PS3

the 'towel trick' is a temporary fix. the problem will return and eventually the towel trick will stop working all together.

this is a more permanent and proven solution:

Eventually all 360's will fail, they obviously aren't designed to last. But so far so good for me and the magic towel.

Yeah apparently some of the solder joints between some of the components were weak on some Xbox 360s and the way this worked was it basically heated the insides just enough to make the solder soft enough to re-seat itself correctly. My buddy has a 360 with the same problem and we're going to try this out, we have nothing to lose at this point. I'll let you guys know what goes down...

Most likely, the internals are the same.

But I don't know if I would buy a system cooler. just make sure the console and power supply have plenty of ventilation.

I keep my 360 sitting flat horizontally with the side vents unobstructed. My power pack is sitting on my TV stand behind my TV, so it's sufficient.

I personally would not as the fan inside can cause a milt suction effect and pull out dust, dirt and fibers from your carpet and lodge it into the vents of the 360.

I play it safe and place it on a hard, non carpeted surface.

I got my system when it came out. @#@#%@%$# !!!! So I say to myself, pretty lucky.

Let me transfer some songs to my media center folders I can hear some music on my sorround sound on my tv. Only to find out the damn 3 lights.

I am not going to mess with it. Just call them and send it back. Any links as to what MS makes people try before deciding to send it back. Maybe I can try and resolve it. HALO3 is comminnnggg nooooooooooooooooooooooooo

unplug any and all accessories and try booting it up.

make sure that the power supply light is green when you try to boot it up.

I just got mine "back" for the 3 red lights of doom for the second time this year. I bought it from a friend for $100 earlier this year (it was already 3 red lighted) and paid the $105 for the repair.

It red lighted AGAIN late last month, which is apparently the third time it red lighted. Original mfr date: december 25 2005. Mfr date of unit I got sent back to me: july 18 2007.

they also had some lady calling me almost every day with an update since this is the third time it got red lighted. I also got a free month xbox live card with the returned unit.

I guess a brand new xbox for $205 isn't too bad.

Microsoft extended the warranty to 3 years for this 3 red light problem. Call them up, they ship you a box, they fix it at no cost to you. Hope mine gets back in time for Halo 3.
