Help - Laptop Spill

So half a glass of wine was spilt on my laptop. the laptop was unattended, so the wine soaked in overnight. luckily, the laptop still works. however, the touchpad and adjacent buttons stopped working. (using a plug-in mouse now). this is for a 3 yr old VAIO.

any home remedies/fixes?

if not, how much should i expect to pay to repair??

thanks!

But anyway, I don't know much about laptops' inner-workings, but I'm guessing if the touchpad doesn't work and the rest of the computer does, then maybe you can just get a new touch pad assembly and fix it yourself if you're comfortable with opening it up. Its going to be PITA finding the part you need though. VIAO's are notorious for being proprietary and dealers will overcharge for them. I had to open my laptop because I dropped it while it was in the bag, Amazingly everything worked except the DVD-Drive so I just replaced it with one I got off of EBay. $50, verses $185+ that other sites wanted to charge. If it doesn't bother you that much that you have to use an external mouse, then I'd just leave it alone. Personally I didn't like opening this thing up and it was a pain putting it back together. Everything is so bunched together and its so easy to screw something else up.

if you want to fix it yourself you don't really have much choice other than to take the whole thing apart so you can wipe and clean the dried wine off of the components. i'm not sure a 3 year old laptop will be worth the repair cost but you might be able to find a place that's not too expensive.

You drunkards needs to be more careful with your shit....

And the only fix is to open and clean with purified water and let dry before using....maybe.

tell me about it - had a rough night and woke up the next morning fully clothed in a pool of red wine. must have passed out with a glass of wine in hand, but i have zero recollection...my laptop was at my side. it smells of wine, so i could only assume...

not sure if i want to spend the $$ on a 3 yr old laptop. looks like ill use the mouse for now.

perhaps ill open it up and see whats what. the two buttons below the touch pad dont work either. so maybe i could find some dried up wine by the wire connections.

Sadly I don't even know who did it to my laptop.. Pitchers of margaritas and shots of tequila = blackout and waking up to a broken laptop
