If you even get near Area 51, you automatically get 4 stars for your wanted level.

the paint and sprays are not open for business until you rightfully unlock the city

I didn't get it, but may pick it up tomorrow. I just don't want to find out I missed something and I can't go back and do it know.
I would think the player's guide would help most in identifying extra hidden items on the map. (i.e., weapons, health, police bribes, etc). I had the guide for Vice City and it helped a little. It described each mission a little more detailed than you get just by playing the game.

I definetly think its worth it - The thing has almost 300 PAGES!!!!!
And like Soopa said I don't like missing things in GTA so I find it helpful

Get the boxes outside the warehouse first.
Stop picking up boxes by around the 4th one to kill some of the douches shooting at you. Then continue with the fork lift.

You need to periodically get outta the forklift and help kill the guards, so whoever you are with (i forget whose mission it is) wont die, you'll have plenty of time so just make sure he doesnt die
*EDIT* Mrsteve beat me to the punch

THe only mission I really had trouble with was the very first one, outrunning the Ballas on a bike. I would always get caught right before home, on that fucking hill to get off the freeway. It took me like 15 tries, I was SO pissed at the game then, I thought it was going to totally suck. But then I got over it and I'm in love all over again.

the official strategy guides are written by the developers and help you play the game in the flow that they intended.
rather than scatter brained

but it helps you keep things in order and play things in the right order... which can help you tons in the efficiency department.
nothing worse then gettign in a mission which your not ready for
I just did something cool. I snuck into the airport, and spawned a hotring racer. You can get up to an insane speed on the runway, then launch yourself off the ramps for stunt points. For my last one, I started at the end of the runway, sped up, aimed, and launced myself over the fence, over the highway, straight into the ocean. Fuckin awesome.
Has anyone tried the demo derby missions in san fiero. I did the first one with ease, but the 2nd one is fucking impssible. THe cars all come after you. I must have tried it at least 20 times with no luck. I screamed and put the controller down.

Ive seen the game played for about 4 hrs at my friends house. I'll I have to say is you guys are sooo lucky that you are getting to play it. Im a freshman at KU and 1.) i never would have time to play it, and 2.) if i did get it and play it, I'd play it alllll the damn time and fail outta college. I think im gonna have to wait to get it for X-mas and play it for a whole month then.
Just a thought: I was watching and seeing how the whole game is interactive, the clothes, food, working out.....I got to thinking... What if you could go to a bar and drink, and then when you drove, the screen got all blury and you could get pulled over for DUI or somethin....
lol...that would be pretty cool....but just a thought...

I just did some cool shit. I went to the airport, and stole the Lear jet. I flew into Las Venturas, and saw all the sights, like the Mirage and the Pyramid. I wasnt paying attention, and i killed myself by flying into a hotel. Then I went and stole it again, and wound up who knows where. Either way, I got shot out of the sky by some fighter jets, but I jumped out of the plane before it crashed, and fell like 10000 feet into the water. I swam to land and jacked a helicopter, but everyone was after me. So i ditched that, cheated, and got a Rhino. Even with the rhino, no chance. The Feds brought out a truck that just picked up the rhino, and I was done. Now i gotta get all these missions done so i can actually do this stuff for real.
