Do you use a laptop?
Since I have been out of school I tend I just docked my Macbook pro and use it at my desk and take my Asus S5ne running XP around with me if I am going to a friends house to just hang out.
So for people who don't have a laptop for work or school do you have one? If you do what do you use it for?
I got my laptop for editing pictures and its great for having 30 raw files open at once when I feel like it. Like I said in another thread I had to replace the logic board for $310 so I was thinking about selling it (Prolly get about 1000 for it Santa Rosa MBP 15.4 inch base model at the time). The more I think the less I find reason to have a laptop really other then taking it to a friends house, just want to see what the reasoning is behind yours.

I have a laptop and I basically use it for school. I take it around campus with me if I need it or I just use it in my dorm. Its also nice if I am leaving campus so I can do work at a friends house. Of course during summer and the holidays its great to be able to bring home. I would guess its pretty hard to go through school without a laptop.
I can't relate to the situation yet since I'm still in school, but I can see myself keeping with laptops even after I graduate. It's just nice to have the ability to take it with you for whatever reason.
Business, travel, fun, etc.
Can't say I won't ever get a desktop, but if I do, it would probably end up being an iMac.
The only advantage I could truly see to having a desktop (one with a tower and all) is if you are looking for an extreme performance computer, which you could put almost anything in (all the chips, RAM, etc in the tower you could ever dream of) without worrying too much about heat.

My laptop used to be my main machine. Then, I got my imac for my hardcore usage and photo editing.
I still use my laptop a lot around the house for net browsing and file transfers. I also take it to work on occasions where i might need it.

I haven't used a desktop in years. I use my laptop for work, home, fun, travel, etc.
I don't have one but I have been eying them for months now. I can't really justify it, since I just spent a lot of money on a nice laptop thats already pretty thin and lightweight. But those things do look tempting. I've been itching for the Dell Mini Inspiron 9 myself.

My laptop never leaves my room because it has the worst battery life since its always plugged in. I barely use it, and I only use it for the internet. I manly use the family desktop which is a beater pentium 4. for internet, AZ, music, and school work. I am the only one that uses it since everyone in my house has a laptop.
Before meeting my husband, I'd only ever used desktops. Since meeting Dan, I acquired his (really) old laptop, and haven't touched the desktop since. Even though the one I use is permanently plugged in because it literally has zero battery life, I like the idea of the computer being mobile....even if it's just browsing in another room in the house, and not being stuck at a desk, facing the wall.
My next computer (coming soon!) will be a laptop, and if anything, I'll just plug it in to a monitor if I want to do anything extensive with it. My old desktop will likely be used as file storage for the house, whenever we have everything set up for that. I don't see any reason for me to ever go back to using a desktop at home.

my desktop never turns off as i tend to access it using remote desktop to grab files off of it.
rarely use my laptop since the battery life is about 1 hour tops and that's pretty much as long as one class lecture is. laptop is convenient to have, but I don't think I'd end up buying another one for a while just as long as it gets word processing and crap done... desktop is my powerhouse

I live on my laptop, but I do miss the ability to tinker with hardware.
If I don't feel like being mobile, I'll dock my laptop.
My dream is to own a beefy Mac Pro and a top of the line MacBook Pro. However, my work provided MacBook will suffice.

My laptop is old, I got it when I still lived with my parents because I had no room for a desk.
Now I have a beefy desktop which I use to pay bills and other more intensive work on. The laptop now just sits in the living room somewhere incase I feel like browsing the web from the couch. Although it is a PITA because it constantly freezes up

^^^^ post a review when you've gotten the chance to play around with it. To me it seems like the best out of the current crop of netbooks out there, but the 4 cell battery concerns me a little.
Shadzilla, I'll surely post a healthy sized review. I saw in a review somewhere that they achieved a little over 3 hours with wireless on. Bad news is estimated ship date is 11.19! Their reply was "Due to high volume of orders."
No shit, they are that back-ordered huh? Maybe that will help deter me from ordering one
btw, if it makes you feel any better, when I ordered my XPS m1330 a few months ago, I ended up having it in my hands a few days before the original estimated ship date. I think Dell is just ultra conservative with their ship dates.

Laptop = possibility for portability. You sacrifice some horsepower (ie latest & greatest processor) but the fact you can do pretty much anything a desktop can do, even when the power goes out (provided the battery can still hold a charge) ... there's little reason why one would buy a desktop, based upon your needs. (Unless you do a lot of gaming...)
I couldn't imagine buying a desktop in the near future. I'd really like to upgrade my MB (white) to the new aluminum cased MB ... but only getting $50 with the educational discount?!
