ati x1900 1 gig of ram, why cant i play?
OK here is the deal every time i play Oblivion, or Halflife 2, after about 5 seconds of gameplay polygons start to bleed into each other. then after about five minutes it just looks like i am walking around in a buch of triangles?? It is almost as if the polygons bleed into each other. I have all the newest drivers, and no other apps. running, someone please help me solve this horibly annoying problem!!!!
I was having the same kind of problems running Titan Quest.
I tried everything and the one of the last three things fixed the issue:
Turned on ECC memory checking in BIOS (as I think a memory leak may have been the issue, hence it getting progressively worse)
Installed the lastest Logitech MX 5000 driver for wireless mouse and keyboard.
Updated the drivers for my 2 Samsung DVD-RW drives.
I did them all at the same time so I'm not sure which one fixed it. Before this, I had done the following.
* Installed lastest Catalyst 6.0 drivers (XP x64) for my ATI 1900XTX
* Updated BIOS
* Updated DirectX 9.0c
* Updated onboard Realtek sound and NIC drivers from ASUS
* Forced single processor mode
* Turned on and off V-Sync and all video settings in game and system
Basically, I tried everything- and being a computer tech for the last 15 years, it was a bunch. I knew overheating wasn't a problem nor was too small of a power supply- which many people may assume.

whats up w/ these high end systems not being able to play games? my xps600 had lots of problems playing half life 2, fear and oblivion. lots of people i know with custom systems with top specs have been having the same problems. maybe its a software issue?

I had a meltdown on my 6600GT - the temp reading wasn't abnormal but the games played funny - I actually opened the case and the video card's fan was hanging by one wire and scorched. I got an X850XT PE and had problems at first but once I reloaded the Catalyst drivers everything is better than ever. I have heard that ATI's drivers are buggier than nVidia when I researched the issue.

I like ATI. Well I suggest two things, assuming the hardware is ok:
1. try latest ATI driver (Version 6.6)
2. try the Omega ATI driver (Version 6.5)
Just google Omega ATI driver, you will see the link.
I am using Omega ATI 6.5 right now, no problem at all, actually made some games smoother.
Good luck.
