I've been driving in Illinois for the past five years with TX tags and a 35% tint on the front windows and have never been ticketed.

Great. Right when I got my rears tinted without the fronts. Well off to go get my fronts tinted 50% now. I've been keeping an eye on this, initially they wanted either 38.5% all around or unlimited in the rear ONLY. But this gives us more flexibility. I'm surprised it got passed so quickly; common Gobna sign it through!

I googled the new law and is says: front windows can be tinted only 50% if the rear windows are tinted a max of 30%.
OR, front and rear windows can be tinted a max of 38%.
OR, nothing in front if the rear windows are tinted more than 30%
The windshield can not be tinted any percent with out medical reasons

Stupid laws. Get so confusing.

Well new law or not I got my car tinted legally, before the bill was passed, 10% in the rear, nothing up front. As soon as I saw it was passed, I got 50% up front (the guy who did them understood my logic and gave me a deal in which I could come back and get the fronts done for the difference in price of 2 windows vs. 5 windows).

My logic is, if the law is passed, police won't be pulling you over if they can see through to see you. I have 50% up front now and you can clearly see to me, but it still looks dark enough to not have a major contrast. I will take a picture soon.

Also, keep in mind that the new law allows for +/- 5% in leeway. Although I am now illegal regardless of the law (I have 50% fronts, 10% rear), this should mean that they won't give you crap unless it is clear cut and obvious. With this law in the near future, perhaps they will give some leeway when considering pulling you over. Now, if they pull you over for speeding, they may take the time to check you out.

Finally, I recommend checking to see how dark the tints will actually look. My 50% looks a little darker than I thought it'd look because I have factory tints (albeit 70%, but still). This worries me slightly because it may attract some attention. This was something I was trying to avoid. Just keep that in mind.

Useless.. 50% is nothing. I'm annoyed of my 20% because you can still see right through them during the day..

You can have whatever in the rear, if so then you only allowed 50% in the front.

OR

Can have 35% or lighter all around.

Now we just wait for the Governor to pass this bish.

^ werd... plus we have to also wait until when it becomes "effective." You think all this info would be easier to decipher.

35% all the way around on mine for 6+ years and no probs ever. This will just make me feel at ease now when it gets passed.

The tint law they just passed recently ruling it as a rolling violation is ridiculous!

This is great! I had 5% all around on my previous car and it was a Cop magnet.

I just got my TL last month and it came with Tints all around. But I don't know the percentage on them (they're light).
