Your next car: Which/When/Why
#41
Which: Mini Cooper S -hard top (most likely used)
When: when/if I ever move to Vancouver B.C. (my family has a vacation home up there)
Why: I've always liked that car, in fact... it was a consideration before buying the FX, and mostly because the compact size for the smaller streets of Vancouver/MPG's/and it's safe

i have seen some for around 21-28k with good history and lower miles
Those are pretty cheap now, but unless you're looking at a turbo(at which point I would still probably try to find a 997 C2S for similar money) I would test drive a number of similar priced cars. I know you have a thread about this, I just was never impressed with the 996, factor in its age and I strongly feel there are better cars out there for similar money.

Wow ... great idea for a thread.
Which: Nothing out there that grabs me at the moment. And I have a car that's barely 6 months old (I'm not Crazy Acura with regards to car attention span ... or lack thereof ) But if I needed to look into a new car, it would probably be a Japanese import since I'm used to the layout / logistics of Japanese cars.
When: Catastrophic failure of current car
Why: See "When"

which: i really want a nissan silvia from japan, but i'll settle for a '95-'98 240sx and just do a s-15 conversion
when: waitin' on the economy to pick up and get better and when i open up my own business... hopefully by '09 summer...that way i have more money to play with
why: i've always had only acuras...i want to test the water with a silvia/240...i think they're ugly cars stock...but they look soo mean and aggresive when you fix them up and a plus is that you can put staggered rims on them...4 banger saves gas...older car you don't feel as quilty modifying it unlike my ua7...and it's something about fixing up an old/used car...and of course this car is going to be for keeps
hmmm...that's about it

Which: my next car choice will depend on the reason i am getting another car...
1.) if it is to replace my current daily driver, i will prob just drive the 3rd gen and get a GS350 to replace the TL...
2.) if it is a toy, 6spd vette convertible, or lotus elise...
3.) if it is a combination of both of the above, prob the G8 6spd set to come out... i would prob convert alot of it to the Monaro bumper etc...
When: whenever the 1G TL dies or i have extra loot around...
Why: i always like the GS, i always wanted a vette, the G8 is a badass sleeper...

Which: E46 M3, AP1 S2000, something two door RWD, with performance in mind.
When: Not for many years, probably 4-5yrs
why: I love the TL, but I want a true performance vehicle while I'm still young and not in need of a four door family saloon. Plus the prices of the above will be dirt cheap by the time I want wanna make the switch.

My lease on the 3G TL is done in April, but I haven't found a car yet that seems like a big enough improvement over it to replace it.
I may end up buying out the lease and keeping the TL until a 3200 lb., 300 HP+, 180" long luxo-sport 4-door sedan with more room than a Lexus IS and nicer interior than a BMW 3-series comes along.

Which: I'm about this close --><-- to jumping the gun on an 06 MINI Cooper S, I even put in an offer but something keeps telling me not to buy yet. I keep jumping from MCS to e39 M5 to LGT and back to MCS.
When:
Don't make me put a time frame!
Why:
MCS - why not? I'm 21, dont need 4 doors and all the room in my Accord, I even considered the 2 seater MCS JCW GP. I'm digging bmwcca/scca events. Plus there's a local guy offering BIG things for MINI's
e39 - it has always been my favorite M and I see myself in it in the future, but I dont want to skip the MINI
LGT - love the look, awd, figure I can get a little more out of it than a MINI.
Decisions...

Which: undecided, but its a toss up between an AP2 S2000, a C5 Z06, and maybe an STi or LGT Spec B. Who knows, I might even just pick up a smaller Toyota truck (I really like the new Tacos) or a Jeep to go offroading, snowboarding or whatever. Or even a sportbike... I guess an F4i to learn on since they're pretty cheap.
When: no idea really, just been drooling over these cars/trucks/bikes for a long time now
Why: Love roadsters/open air cars, love cars that look aggressive, are fast, handle well, are moddable, have potential and are fun to drive. I also want a car that can sound good if I put a system in it. I've been in some Camaros than handle pretty damn well and I've seen some that just plain haul ass. The car suits me fine, but I always have that curious itch.

Well, I just bought a car but there will always be more
Which: 2006-2007 Lexus GS430
When: Probably about 2-3 years from now
Why: I used to have a 99 GS400 and loved it, I drove the 06 and like it even more. I think it's a great balance between sport luxury and class and with great reliability!

I could only wish. I don't like spending more than $15K on cars because the more you spend the more you lose. I switch them every year MAX (hopefully 2 with the 6s) so I have to be very concious about resale values. Currently the GS's are out of my ideal price range, but in two years I can see them being around $16-17K with miles around 60-70K....that's when I'll start searching.

Which: Honda Fit or VW MKVI GTI, still deciding
When: August 2009
Why: Lease ends on my Audi next year and I've been consistently down grading (RL->Audi->Fit or GTI?) in order to save more money. With Wedding plans and a new house on the horizon, I'm looking for ways to maximize the cash flow. The idea of a hot hatch has been on my mind because I love wagons too. Anyhow, I'm gravitating towards the GTI (great performance potential), but the "frugal" part of me is saying to go with the Fit (saves money on payments, insurance, and gas; use cash saved towards more investments and retirement). Oh the dilemma

Which: Toyota Venza or possibly the new Honda wagon
When: 2009
Why: '03 Pathfinder is falling apart, Nissans suck, SUVs suck gas, be more environmentally and socially responsible, nothing beats the smell of a brand new car, except for pussy, need a cargo carrying car.

Well, the next car purchase will be for the wife, so I think she would want the following:
Which: Next Gen Toyota Prius or Honda Insight
When/IF: 2011
Why: I don't trust hybrid tech in terms of longevity, and she has to get a new one before me
For me:
Which: Next Gen (or current used gen) Acura RL
When/IF: 2011 or 2012
Why: The TL will be 7 years old by then, so I would like to upgrade to a bigger car with more up to date features. I think I will remain with Acura as I've had an overall positive experience with my 05 TL.

when: I just bought a new car last year, and told myself I'd keep it for 7 years, so 6 more to go...
which: Right now I'm leaning towards something from Europe. If I were buying a car now, it'd probably be a certified 3 series coupe, or volvo C30 rdesign. So maybe something like that......or an NSX
why: ready for a new car, want something more luxuious, and fit better w/ my age (when I am ready to hit the big 3-0 )

Which: 2nd generation Caddy CTS-V
When: When I get tired of my RL, so dunno. At least another year or two
Why: I want to try a RWD V8 556 hp car before they go away permanently because we will eventually wean ourselves from oil

What: Don't know
When: Don't know
Why: I just bought the Subaru, and by the time I'm even thinking about a new one, I may not be in this country. Depending on my country of destination, the car may change......
now the wife....
What: Honda Odyssey
When: 1 - 2 year timeframe
Why: the current one is a 2001, but she's starting to get tired of a FWD vehicle (sound familiar), the roads here are quite slick when wet. So we're looking at the newest model, as it is really nice compared to the USDM model. Over here, this new one is very nice.

Which: '69/'70 Shelby GT500 or Ford GT.
When: late '08 to end of '09
Why: The markets are in turmoil. Much of the collector car market is softening, and bargains are beginning to appear. I've had '66,'67, and '68 Shelbys, but never a '69 or '70. The Ford GT is something I've wanted for some time.
And perhaps a very nice NSX I'm looking at in Toronto this upcoming spring.

Which: New body Hyundai Santa Fe (hopefully a Limited AWD)
When: Depends on when I can get a better job and get some money saved. Hopefully within two years.
Why: Love my current SF; wouldn't think of buying anything else.

What - No idea because I don't know what will be out in a few years. If I had to choose from what's available today, the likely candidates would be another TL, the G35, and the IS350. I've always liked the BMW 5 series too but a new one is a bit more than I'm willing to pay and I don't want a used one because of BMW's poor reliability. The Legacy is supposed to be redesigned in 2010 I think, maybe the new one will be really nice. My choice will also depend on how much money I'm making in a few years, in my industry we tend to switch jobs often and you can never predict if your next job will pay really good or so-so.
When - Probably not for a few more years, my TL is still running strong with less than 85k kms on it so there's no hurry. Also it'll be paid off in a few more months so it'll be nice to not have payments any more. I'll probably start looking for a replacement right before it's time for some major maintenance (ie new timing belt).
Why - I need a reliable, fast, and comfortable sport sedan, and the pickings are slim.
