Pretty much every Mopar I've driven (mostly 80's and 90's models that you could find at your local Hertz) was a piece of shit.

late 90's Sebring convertible.... it wasn't a terribly bad car but it was a customer's and it seemed very poorly maintained... almost as if it wasn't maintained at all. The top would go up for about 2 seconds but it'd get stuck mid-travel, you need someone to pull on it for it to go all the way up. Smelled terrible, thank god I didn't have to drive that car for long

mid 90's Stratus - the dashboard is longer than my car's which is already the length of a football field... why would you need or want a raked windshield in such an unsporty car like the Stratus? Transmission flares worse than my old TL-S, no power steering, dog slow

1984 F150 work truck. Nuff said

The X5 is pretty bad. Its funner to drive than most SUVs that size, and has a nice interior.... but I agree, for something that costs that much, I expected more. On my cousin's 2001 X5 the brakes squealed and the steering wheel shimmied even after the rotors were turned, his gauge cluster display was unreadable; it looked like one of those solar calculators when you press down on the display with your fingernail... see the "KEY IN IGNITION LOCK" area (http://media.automotive.com/evox/sti...6/5od-4/62.jpg) and another time something shorted out and the car wouldn't start... it took an multiple-ASE certified electrician with 7 years experience an entire day to fix it.

Not that they are bad cars at all, because I love MR2s, but one particular MR2 I test drove was a POS. It was a 91 NA with a 3S-GTE swap and a 6-puck clutch, originally from New Hampshire. That clutch pedal was STIFF as hell... and the underbody of the car had been rusted out. The owner put side skirts on it to try to cover it up.

My brother's 86 4runner. He loves that thing which makes me laugh cause he also has a Mini-S JCW and MR2 Turbo. His 4runner has the dookie brown interior, it smells like old fruit, then when it rains it smells like a diseased prostitute's vagina. Tint bubbling up everywhere, and even then only some of it is partially there. Its downright scary driving that thing up a 30 degree incline.... you floor it and it barely maintains speed.

He got it for free though, from my cousin in law and he plans to make an off-roading rig with it

And just a side note, all the cars I've driven that either had trashed original motor tranny mounts drove like garbage. Even time you take off from a stop it feels like the car is going to rattle itself apart.

My mom's 1997 Mercury Tracer. The right speakers don't work. The power locks don't lock the car. The seats only move back and forth. The gear changer does not illuminate so if it's dark it's hard to see what gear the car is in. And here's the worst for me - it's a 1997 car - and it doesn't even have a trunk pop. If I have to drop someone off at the airport or whatever, I can't just drop them off. I have to stop the car, turn it off, get out of the car, and manually open the trunk with the key. What engineer said this would be okay?

As soon as I stepped inside a rental Dodge Stratus, I wanted to run the 4000 miles from CA to AK and kiss my CL-S.

Old Ford Escort that I learned to drive on. After that I would have to say the Grand Prix I rented when my 95 Maxima was being repainted and the Chevy POS that I got when my CL transmission was being replaced.

I seriously might take the cake here:

1990 Honda CRX HF

EXTERIOR

-"rust on red", no clearcoat, absolutely faded paint, but mostly rust in every part of the body.
- the right front caliper was jammed on, wouldn't decompress.
- the driver's door was so bad I had to replace it, with a white door (with 5% tints)
- the hood would fly open going more than 80
- the right taillight was broken
- the muffler had a gapping hole and a bunch of farm hay in it!
- no right-side mirror (from factory)
-13" STEELIES ON POTENZAS??!!

INTERIOR

-car reaked of moth balls because it was kept in a barn for 6 months
-no radio, AC didn't work, but I did put in a small amp and a headphone jack for my iPod!
-seats were so crappy, I had to buy new "racing seats". Couldn't afford a new bracket in HS, so I custom fabricated them using the old brackets... led to them being harnessed down at only 2 of the 4 locations, so left turns would send you flying.
-shifter was so loose that 2nd gear looked like 5th, you would sometimes misshift without even knowing it. It was sometimes impossible to jam the car into 2nd: you would here a loud noise as you tried pushing it in and I would have to "Try again" by going BACK to N and trying to upshift once more!
-IF you used the heat, more mothball smell would come out. Got to a point where I had a winter jacket just for that car, so I wouldn't walk around with that disgusting smell.

There's so much more. Not to mention it was a whopping 60 HP, most of which was probably lost. My 0-60 time came out to about 14.5 seconds. Let me grab some pictures...

OH, and the car cost JUST over $300.

Some god-awful cargo van (I think it was a Dodge) that I rented to pick up my big-screen TV from Sam's Club 3 years ago. It was supposedly an automatic, but you had to put it in neutral before coming to a stop or else the thing felt like it was gonna shake itself to pieces. I still can't believe I survived that drive.

1979 Audi 5000 S, biggest POS I ever owned. The car actually drove well, but it had enough quirks to drive you insane.

1) Whenever you shut the car off, all of the lights on the back of the car would come on and stay on until the battery was discharged. You had to lift up the back seat everytime you got out of the car to disconnect the + battery terminal.

2) The car would start on the 1st crank when it was 5 degrees out. If you shut the car off when it was warmed up to pump gas or run into a store, the car would not start again for 15-20 minutes until the engine cooled off.

3) Pushing the button for the moon roof caused all of the cables that are supposed to open the roof to pour into the cabin.

I paid $300 for the car and it lasted me about 6 months, I guess you get what you pay for.

I was just about to post up my old Integra sedan... but gocubsgo's CRX still is

I used to take my LS with bone stock suspension up into the mountains with my friends. It had really bad, failed clearcoat going back from the hood to the roof to the trunk. I never really washed it, but every time I sprayed it down, the clearcoat would flake off. Had a crack through almost the entire windshield, took forever to warm up, had no radio when I bought it. I didn't know better back then. Eventually my moonroof was stuck closed and my passenger-side rear window regulator crapped itself out.

This one time we went, the sky was overcast, and I couldn't see the road too well. I went wide and drove over a gravel patch that sent the rear going sideways and into the side of the mountain. For those in the Bay Area it was at Mt. Hamilton (aka Mt. Gravelton to my friends) My friend also wrecked his GSR in the same area, only his ended up sideways in a ditch. He ended up getting a WRX afterwards

I don't miss it much (thieves and wrong wheel drive FTL) but I'm still curious if I could make an autox car out of one. Was still a lot of fun though. Nonetheless I'd never buy a car like that again unless its a track car

Oh and I forgot the best part.... me and my friend were working on it, and my friend was removing the transmission drain bolt. We didn't know better and didn't spray penetrating oil beforehand.... when the damn thing finally came out a chunk of the transmission case (about the size of a key fob) came with it. When it was bolted back up it slowly leaked tranny fluid through the crack but I drove it to LA anyway... I just topped it off and didn't tell anyone

Ended up fixing it by spreading JB Weld all over the wound. How's that for ghetto

Worst car i've ever driven was an 84 or 86 Huyndai 5 door hatch. That thing felt like a box on wheels. It almost seemed like a plastic toy car inside. And this is comparing it to the POS that i already owned -

an 85 Chevy Cavlaier. I crashed it the first month i drove it - head on into a wall, had it fixed, then after that, i think every major component in the front end failed (looking back as i was older, i think it was the impact that jarred everything that caused failure). every other week iw as in the shop That was the biggest pos i owned.

We did two separate cross country trips when we were younger, probably as an 8 yr old and 10 yr old with sis, mom & pops to Florida and California. 4 of us in a Pinto. The other trip was in a Pacer I look back and am still amazed at how we were able to do that.

See, that's the thing... Opinions are like assholes, everybody's got one

I actually liked the pinto, but that's me... You like the K-car... Your new buddy thinks the G35 blows

My mom had a k-car and it went thru head gaskets and eventually had the head replaced, so that's why I'm biased...

A few of the cars mentioned here are decent... You've just got to remember what you're dealing with. The econoboxes of yesteryear weren't made to the standards of today. Can you imagine a car without power windows ?? Well, some of the econoboxes of the 70's didn't even have power steering or power brakes And some people think a DX civic is bad

my 2 sisters and i shared a 1991 nissan stanza in high school and all my buds called it the rat-mobile. here's why:

a/c didn't work
radio didn't work
3/4 speakers were blown
only driver's window went up and down
it leaked through the sunroof everytime it rained (awful moldy smell in cabin)
leaked power steering fluid so i added 1-2 quarts every week

imagine driving that thing in a hot ass florida summer

Hey, my POS had power NOTHING. Literally NOTHING was power. I learned quickly that if you didn't pump the brakes, you were screwed.

My 1980 Honda Accord LX (purchased used and abused ) was the biggest POS I have ever owned but was a good road car.

However, the 1995 Ford Escort I drove several times while working for Hertz was horrible in every respect. It accelerated, handled, braked horribly and lost almost all of its accelerative prowess by 75mph. It was also noisy and the engine had to be the thrashiest four cylinder on the planet, making mid-90s Hyundai and Saturn inline 4s seem Honda-like by comparison.

198X Ford Tempo. What a piece of crap. Had those power seat belts, hated those stupid things. Loudest motor ever.

197X Ford LTD. Grannies car, first car I took out on my own when I got my license. Thing had a suped up motor and went fast, but had no power, no AC, no radio, no headliner. Back then, who cared if you sweated in the car and stuck to the vinyl, as long as you could drive.

- 4 door , 3 cylinder, 3 speed auto firefly ! wow that thing flies... go 70mph and you'd think ur doing at at least 170

- worst rental car: jeep compass (aka caliber) and chevrolet Aveo... just so so bad.
