Winter car advice

Okay guys, I'm thinking about buying a winter beater (Syracuse NY gets 150+ inches of snow each winter and uses a lot of salt). I want to garage my TL and buy a sacrificial lamb.

What I am considering is a 2003 Audi Allroad with 156K for about $6500.

I know that these cars can be troublesome.

1 - Does anyone out there have experience with them to share with me?

(MOD EDIT- VIN lookup requests are not allowed on AcuraZine)

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Go to the dealer to check the VIN.
Not that familiar with the Audi, but know a few that have them, a lot of problems. In fact, a friend of ours just replaced the trans, 2007 A6, 64,000 miles.
I'd look for something less trouble prone, or at least one that would be less costly when repairs are needed.

Audi makes horrible cars, in my brief stint working for Audi I knew many service customers by name they came in so often. There is a reason why, what was likely a $50k+ car is being sold for so little. I would get a subi or toyota truck as a winter beater, the last thing you need is to be stranded and have to pay big $$$ to fix it.

I seconded the subie, my neighbor just found him a legacy wagon for less than 7 with 112k miles on it, not sure of the year but its the year before they really made it look like it was going offroad jeep comanche style.

only issue he had was a wheel bearing and he replaced that himself, with a little help I might add.

I'd stay away. Lots of electrical issues and costly repairs. For this price range, I'd look at some rav4's or cr-v's.

Could get a 04-05 TL with the same mileage for the same price.

Throw some snow tires on it and you good to go!

Jeep FTW! Have some fun in the winter. Where in Syracuse? I lived in Lakeland for 14 years.

I'd probably look around for an older Jeep Cherokee or something...

Wrangler, Cherokee, or old Blazer with snow tires. Down here, you can pick up any of those for under $2k.
