Why are dealerships retards?

Earlier today I submitted a quote request just to see what the dealership would come back with. If the deal was too good to pass up, I would consider the deal; otherwise, no biggie for me. I even went as far as to get approved for financing through AHFC which I got approved for.

I built an '08 White/Ebony TSX 6spd with Navi.

Thomas Acura (Covina, CA) contacts me late this evening and asks me if I want an Auto.

If I wanted an Auto, I would have built an Auto. I wouldn't have requested a quote for a 6spd. Why do dealerships TRY to jerk your chain instead of just being straighforward and honest. If they don't have what I want, they don't have it. I always thought it was the point to make the customer happy?

Why are dealerships retards? I understand they want to push what they have on the lot. If they don't they should do what they can to get the customer what they want BEFORE giving the customer alternate options. NOT the other way around.

Well, take the two Acura ones in town as an example where both drove my car's lip into pavement...?

Not the same...but, still retarded nonetheless.

Not a repost, but similar to a recent 3G thread: https://acurazine.com/forums/technology-16/usb-data-cable-lg-vx6100-164477/

Try Santa Monica Acura or Keyes Acura in Van Nuys-- they are more likely to have a couple of 6Ms around, compared to Thomas, Cerritos or Sierra (which ordinarily don't have any manual cars in stock).

Send the request direct to the internet sales managers. If appropriate, tell them you want to drive before buying.

I had a similar experience as the one you had...

Pretty much all dealerships are mostly retards. I once went to a Subaru dealership to see if they had any used, manual tranny LGTs on the lot. I talked to a salesperson and found out that they didn't. Then he made up some BS about how since I was 18, if I did a dealer search for a used LGT without giving him my information and signing some waiver that he would get in trouble for it. So I said I would come back at another time or call him.

The salesperson manages to call me first, and then asks me to come over because they just got some new Legacies. Its the middle of the week, so I tell him I'm busy and that I'll head over there the next day. I go there and there are some new Legacies, but no LGTs at all, all brand new 08's too. No MT LGTs. He then offers to do a dealer search across the state for the model I'm looking for, and asks if I want a test drive. I deny both, and then he tries to explain to me the benefit of Subaru's symmetrical AWD as opposed to other AWD systems, and manages to make himself an idiot explaining it. I already knew a lot about it, then I told him thanks and left. He takes down more of my information and the specific color/interior choice I want, and also the drivetrain choice.

Next time he calls me and says he got a new shipment, I come immediately. Same thing.... brand new Legacies, 1 LGT auto with wrong interior color. He went ahead and did a dealer search anyway and says they got models that I want. Wait a minute, I thought I had to sign a waiver? Guess not.... anyway none of the models they had matched, and all the dealers only had new cars. Walked off the lot and guy never called me again.

Another time my sister, mom, and I showed up at a Lexus dealership, all of us in nice clothes (were gonna go eat dinner afterwards). Talk to receptionist for any salesmen to help us out. We were the only customers aside from another group of people who were also waiting. We end up waiting for half an hour, walking in and out of the dealership, but no one comes to help us. Walked right off the lot, guess these guys don't want clients then.

A white/ebony 6spd Acura ?? At least you're consistant

I don't know why they are so retarded to offer you a car you don't want, when they can locate one at another dealership (it's a hassle for the dealership, but not bad), or have one order, built, and shipped out (couple of months wait probably)...

Dealership I bought my car from had to locate my car at another dealer, and they just had one of their next months allotment shipped to the other dealer as compensation. So easy, even a retard could do it

They don't know you from Adam. You are an enthusiast and you know exactly what you want. The salesman who got back to you was being "creative", trying to generate a sale. You took a shot, maybe they will offer a good price. He took a shot, maybe the tranny type wasn't a big deal.

I think that the number 1 requirement for being in car sales should be that you need to be an enthusiast. Otherwise, you end up like most salesmen who either know absolutely nothing about the cars they sell or just come across as being uncaring and ignorant.

In all my experiences dealing with sales guys, I find that the people who I like working with the most are the ones who actually bother to listen to what I want and take the time to realize that I already know more than they do about the car and do not try to waste my time "teaching" me about the features. And of all my experiences, I've only come across 3 car salesmen who have ever managed to achieve that.

I need to have a talk with the wifey soon. If after I replace a few parts on my car and it still gives me issues. I'm trading it in. I have a thread about that in th 2G CL forum.

I built this model on the Acura website and they sent the request directly to the Internet Sales Manager at my local Acura Dealership. The quote that is sent is exactly what I built including all the options I selected. They have all the info I submitted.

I'm just scoping things out man. I wanted to see what kinda offer they'd give me for an '08. And to see if I'd get approved for financing.

the cars I'm scoping out are the TSX, A3 and A4 Avant.

We'll see what happens within the next 6-8 months. It could be tomorrow it could be 3 months, I have no clue and that's what I don't like. If the problems on my car continue, I will deinfitly be trading it in. I can't afford to have the car crap out on me and I need to maximize the trade in value considering how many miles I have on the CL-S Honestly it all boils down to how long I can get the CL-S to last IF I can't resolve the throttle issues I'm having. That's why I'm starting to check out deals now.

Dom, one thing I forgot to mention, I would like to wait for the '09 TSX because if they do add the Turbo K series motor and add AWD then it'll be a hard decision between that and the other two cars I'm looking at. The current TSX doesn't have anything on the A3 or A4. The only reason I consider (right now) is because I have a great reputation with the Cerritos Acura Dealership and they always help me out with my car and I don't want to lose that.

I have found to AVOID contacting the local dealers through the MFG build website.

It usally has left me with morons who answer my request with stupid form email letters that they send to everyone and have nothing to do with my personal request...or I get no response.

Your best bet is to visit the local dealers website and contact them through their personal email (internet sales mgr's). This is by far the most effective.

...and ditch the Acura...go with Audi / BMW.

True, but I think you will find that you will get a "better" response from the dealers internet sales manager when you contact them directly versus through the main MFG website. Why? dunno....it just always seems to be the case for me, and for other peeps I know.

I typically build the car on the site, then write up the specs of what I want in emails, and then send them to a bunch of dealers...then let the wolves devour themselves to give me the best price.

I bought my last 3 vehicles this way...the only time I set foot on the lot is to test drive, and then to walk in with the email in hand for the final price. NEVER HAGGLE FOR PRICE AT THE DEALER WITH A SALESMAN!!!!

Don't tempt me The more I think about it, the more I want to just say "Fuck it" and go for it.

Sales manager guy called you because they're required to respond to all quote requests. 6mt cars are rare, and its clear they didn't have one in the color combo you wanted. From a sales standpoint, it makes sense to touch base with the customer to gauge their true desire for a particular equipment combo. Its very common for less focused customers to change their priorities if a sweet deal can be struck. The dealership doesn't want to go straight to the "we don't have it" card because they immediately give away almost all chance at a sale. The customer will simply call the next dealer on their list.....instead of possibly buying a different car at a lower price from the first dealer.

They could dealer trade for one, but those types of arrangements are not as easily put together as you would think.

Cheers,
-Mirror

Just so you're aware, Audi ran out of 2007 A4 Avants (didn't know if you were looking at a wagon or not) so they released the 2008s early. The A3 is a little pistol of a car, even with the 2.0T. That damn thing is so much fun to drive it ought to be a crime. The A4 is no slouch either but the A3 feels like a go-kart with a leather-trimmed interior.

I didn't know that about the A4's. Thanks for the info. I am looking at a wagon. I don't want the sedan even though it looks awesome. I like the wagon because it satisfies a lot of important needs for my wife and I especially since we are hoping to start a family in the next couple years. Just planning ahead.

Again, the onlly reason I'm considering the TSX even though it's a sedan is because I've had good expereinces with Acura and the dealership I go to. As of now though it is 2nd on my list. Audi being on top.

^ Totally agree.

You have to view things from their standpoint as well. If someone's asking about a car, you don't just say "Sorry, we don't have that" and let a potential sale walk out the door. You tell them "We don't have that particular color/tranny combination, but we do have this one" and see if you can convince them to buy it instead of their fist choice. Even better, try to upgrade them to a TL.

It might seem annoying or stupid to you, but it's their job to (try to) get the sale. If things were reversed, are you saying you wouldn't attempt to do the same? I know I would because there are some people out there who do have 2nd options if the 1st isn't available.

I dunno...if you're after an A3, a Mazda 3 wagon may actually make you just as giddy for less...but, I'll go away.

As for the Bimbim comment...I'm saying that cuz...well, it's just superior to the rest of the class. So, get one.

I thought about Mazda, but I know nothing of their reliability and quite frankly, I really like the Audi. Wifey likes it too, that's another plus

Tina has a loaded 3 sedan for the last 2 years and it's a joy to drive. It's zippy, deceptively roomy, and an absolute blast to drive.

Obviously, it doesn't have the luxury element of the A3...but, if that's not a primary requirement, I urge you to look up the Mazda 3. It's only done fabulously in car reviews and rankings non-stop...?

I never said I wasn't planning on buying it. And in all honesty, plenty of people plan to buy cars 6 months, even 12 months in advance. Why can't I do that. At this point I could buy a car tomorrow, or it could be 3 months from now. Like I said in my other posts, it all boils down to the issues I'm experiencing with my car. I want to maximize how long I can keep this car without degrading it's trade-in value much. And that's also hoping that the issues don't get worse. After I replace my EGR valve next week (part is in transit as we speak) I'll have a better idea of IF I need/want to spend more money to resolve the issues I'm experiencing. Otherwise I will HAVE to get a car.

I know at times It may sound like I'm all over the place especially when talking about the TSX and the A3, but honestly, cars are my favorite hobby. And for me especially. it was hard deciding which would be the best. It was tough enough narrowing my choices down to the 3 models I selected because there are plenty of other cars out there that I think are great cars like the WRX Wagon, Legacy GT, Mazda 3 Wagon and a couple others.

I wouldn't have wasted my time getting a credit approval if I wasn't serious. Who in the hell goes that far and isn't serious?

Both robots and diecast cars are my other interests that will make me go broke. Luckily I haven't started my diecast car otherwise I'd be addicted to it.

I do have plans for my diecast car collection, something that will hopefully benefit everyone here too
