Who's driven a new civic SI?

How was it? I'm getting very interested in this car. 68 mph in the slalom , standard LSD, not too bad.

I'm curious as well how it drives. There isn't much torque down low and I would think winding it out all the time to get power out of it would get old after a while.

I traded a drive with my neighbor about a week ago. We ran a 10 mile loop I drive when wanting to have some fun. The chassis is really set up well for a puller. Does great on sweepers and only really shows its FWD roots in really tight corners where it would be nice to be able to tighten the line with the throttle. The shifter is great and the trannies ratios are near perfect, drops from readline right to the VTEC point with each shift. I did detect some bump steer but only in a real torture test, the steering was nicely weighted and about as good in the feel area as you can expect from a FWD. All in all I really liked the handling and it is one of the better stock FWDs I have driven. The engine is wonderful sound wise and rev wise but unless it is on boil it is pretty much a slug. Row the gears well and it will reward, but in daily driving it would be rather lackluster. A bargain for the money but there are several performance cars I would rather have for an extra 5K.

Assuming one can afford an extra 5k. That's not pocket change.

I was highly impressed with the interior for the price, and the fact that it was so quick in the high RPM. It's not a slug down low either IMO. Sure it's not fast at low RPM, but it never left me thinking it was underpowered. This car has fun to drive written all over it.

funny u ask, JUST got back from test driving one!

Just to add to whats already been said. The exhaust note was one of THE best that I've heard out of a honda - a mix of VTEC scream with a touch of growl. Yet, stay in 6k rpms, and its a refined car around town. Ive also driven the EX coupe, and at least where I live, I really didn't feel that there was much of a noticable tradeoff in the ride quality.

But hit 6k rpms, or thereabout, and even at 75-80mph, this think will yank u back. I was really surprised - didnt think that it would have THAT much kick. Oh, and the shifter was soo sooo slick. I really can't comment too much on the handling cause I really didnt push it at all in the corners. A touch more body roll than I expected, but nicely weighted steering. THe one "weird" thing though is that it holds revs when u shift - as in the engines artifucally keeps the revs up for a good 2-3 seconds.

The car I drove had around 80 miles on it. What amazed me most I think about the car was obviously the power, but also the amount of refinement in the damn thing. Civic's have really grown up! (at least when compared to my ex-94).

Oh, and I followed up my drive in the Si with a spin in an 06 S2k - u'd be surprised at how close I felt the Si and s2k were in terms of acceleration when you drive each car to 8/10's.

Sidenote: Wring the S2000 out to 11/10's and it is a BEAST

I have one. Go here for pics: http://www.cardomain.com/ride/2228581

I have about 1800 miles on it right now and still loving it. The handling is great, the LSD digs in like crazy. The steering and suspension is very tight. The enigine loves the high rpm's and feels like it could keep pullin' after 8000. No regrets so far. If you have any specific questions let me know. Oh yeah, can't forget the sound. The tuned intake and exhaust sound great, much better than the RSX-S in my opinion.

the dealership that I got my Goldwing at is also a Honda car dealer. when the dealership was checking out my old goldwing (due to trade in) the owner of the dealership asked if there was any cars I'd like to look at. They had a red Si and a black Si. I test drove the black Si.
now I'm 6 ft 3 or 4 and about 250 lbs. so for me it's too little. however it drives like a RSX-S in my thoughts. I didn't push it too hard because the sales dude was with me. plus they said the red one was sold already and this was their only one they were getting in for the rest of the year. so I didn't want to put it into a pole or another car. I think the fastest I got it up to was 60 mph. nothing real exciting.

A lot depends on if you like the looks of the Si or RSX-S: if it was my money I'd throw the extra money in and go with the RSX-S but that's me.

Same BS with the Accord 6mt about allocating 2 cars a year? Can't you verify that, Water-S?

I agree 5k is a lot when considering the difference between 20 and 25k, but I did not explain it completely. The SI will sell for list or even more where as some of the ~24-25K car will sell at significant discounts so the transaction cost could be very comparable.

that's B.S. because I go to Marysville Honda(it's about 45 mins to hour from my house) yes it's the Marysville that Honda plant at. They have like 3 or 4 maybe 5 on hand. Plus I know we build about 120-180 a week(estimate).so either there's a lot of dealers or they are selling extremely well.

Now Honda of Marysville told me a B.S. statement. he said they'd only produce about 15000-16000 Civic Sis this year. that number sounds low to me.

Came back from the track at englishtown in N.J yesterday. My friend has the SI and his best run was a 14.5ish at 94xxmph. It was freezing yesterday and traction was a bit loose but still, i think that is a respectable time being that it's stock. He only has about 1500 miles on it so i bet it would go faster as he breaks it in more. The interior is very nice too i think. I like the layout of the speedo up high on the dash with the digital MPH readout. Pretty nice.

That will give a CL-S with a 6 speed a run for it's money.
faster than I expected. When I drove it I didn't really push it.

14.5 stock. Isn't that faster than an RSX-S?
