What would YOU do?
So here's the story....
There's this 3 floor garage like a block away from where I live, and inside there's this car thats been sitting there for the last 7 years untouched. I believe its a 1999 Audi A6, its got a few scratches all around, some dents, no liscense plates, and the small triangle window in the rear is broken.
This car has been abandoned since I was like in 8th grade, which was like ~7 years ago. Everyday when I would come home from school, I'd have to go through that garage to get home, and I'd pass this car, and it would ALWAYS be there, in the same spot.....
One day I decided to take a look inside, and the doors were open, so I went in, and obvisouly someone before me already checked it out and couldn't find anything valuable and left...
So anyways, I checked it out, and its got really nice leather seats, a really cool radio, everything seems to be in good condition inside, aside from a few missing panels here and there....
I looked under the hood, and nothing seems to be missing, but the battery was obvisouly dead. So I was thinking, what would happen if I would just starting stripping this car for parts?
For example, it has really nice projector headlights, nice leather seats in the front, really nice radio, all the door speakers seem to be in place, etc...
Would this be illegal? Could I get in trouble for it? What would you do if you were in my place?

There have been many other cars in this garage that have been abandoned, and they are usually very old and dirty, so security just comes and sprays the windshield with an X, and sticks some kind of oranage slip for the tow truck on the window, then a week later it gets towed.
Usually it takes them about 1 year max to realize that the car is abandoned, (cause this is not a free parking garage, you do have to pay for it), but this Audi is different, it wasn't sprayed, no tow truck sticker was placed on it, etc....

Yeah I'd definitely try to claim that and then sell it for a few K. Whatever you do don't strip it unless it's legally yours. Heck I'd make it a track car if I got it for free.

well- if it's a paid parking garage its reasonable to assume it's not abandoned. in florida- what you did would be called burglary of a conveyance even if you didn't take anything.

I'm saying just do it legally. It shouldn't cost but a few bucks to get it in your name, then strip it down for parts. Don't be a thug. There's nothing to gain from it.

After 7 years of sitting in the same garage, the $$$$ it would take to get it out past the gate would be more than the POS is worth

I say steal the parts, take pics, sell them on ebay. On ebay they don't ask for a vin or a serial so most people sell stolen parts there. Make sure they pay with paypal because under law paypal can't give up your account information. Place your picture in all ads as well, putting your picture in an ebay ad makes taking you to court harder because if you knew it was stolen you wouldn't do that. I am sure chief can back all of this up.

Can you strip it? No, since its not yours.
Can you claim it? Realistically, I have no idea if you can or cant. Ethically, no.
I dont even know if this is a joke, your statement saying that you want to strip it for parts/profit makes me wonder as to why you even asked. There is no gray area in this decision, its not yours so you are not entitled to do either stripping or claiming.
Since you are 19, nothing against your age, may be you still aren't clear as to whats right and whats wrong.

Since it has no license plates I would run the vin on carfax and see what it says, then take it to the dmv next to try and find the owner, other than that don't touch it cause someone is paying for the spot and it is illegal, would you even know how to strip it?

did you check the glovebox for the title? Call the parking garage up and find out the deal. If someone did abandon it and they just didn't want to tow it for some strange reason after 7yrs, then I bet they'de take small money to sell it to you.

Oh Hullow
i am fascinated by this haha... let all of us know how this turns out... if i were u and it turned out you were able to claim this car id keep it n restore it depending on how much it would cost to do so... from what you've said it doesnt seem in such bad shape except for the obvious fact is hasn't been driven in an extremely long time
