What’s the third best radar detector ???

I’m well aware of the V1 vs Escort 8500 debate that rages on in most car forums so let’s not go there.
I have a V1 w/ remote in the Vette and I’m quite happy with it.

I almost got nailed the other day in the Subaru and I think I want to get a basic detector for that car.
Luckily I saw the front of the cop car before I got into his range.
I saw the radar unit sticking out the window as I passed him.

I don’t want to spend 400 for another V1 or even 300 for an Escort.
Older used V1’s still go for 300-350 on EBAY so that’s out.
I don’t need the bogey counter, arrows or super long range, just something basic that will give me some additional warning instead of running blind.
I just want some basic protection for when I occasionally take this thing on the highway and make full use of its monstrous 173HP.
So what can I get in the 150-200 range that’s half decent?
How much do used 8500’s go for?

Why not just get another power cord and mount for the V1 and swap it between the two cars?

What???? Are you serious? After all the detector debates that the V1 is the best & only thing you'll buy?

I have a 165HP 94 Explorer & I shelled out the $400 for another V1. Save for it

I was going to do that. I even bought TWO remote displays for just such a purpose.
I never even took the other remote display out of the box. I’ll probably sell it.

I think it would be too much of a hassle to switch all the time. Especially at 5:30AM.
And it’s mounted pretty ridged in the Vette and not that easy to get out.

Yea, I know…I know.
But the thing is that car hardly ever sees highway use and in PA the local cops aren’t allowed to use radar.

When it does go on the highway it’s either raining or snowing so speed traps aren’t really an issue.

Ok then I heard the Bell 980 is up there. A used 8500 can be had for around $240

Id save the money and transfer the V1 over when you want to speed on the highway

I bet anything less than either one wont be worth it.

The $200 you would save by not going V1.
How much time, hassle etc will you spend should you get another ticket.

If you really do not have money for the V1, understandable.
If you're just going cheap, you'll most likely end up paying the extra $200 anyways.

The third best radar detector is the "Sign by the X, sir" speeding ticket.

V1 for me, nothing more, nothing less.

Do you guys haul ass 24/7? I have my Escort 8500 but its mostly for the cop traps on the highways when I do 10 over.

Maybe I should just sell mine to one of you guys

I have a Beltronics x65 and it seems to work really well. I got it off ebay for 230 plus shipping.

http://www.beltronicspro.com/rx65.html

in all the new tests it falls right behind the V1 and 8500 and some tests say it beats those.

I see V1's with 1.7 version software are selling on EBAY in the 200-250 range.
Maybe I'll go that route.

An older V1 is probably better then most other brands that sell in the 200-range new.

I kinda doubt that is true actually. The beltronics radars are now made by escort so they are now beating the escort a lot. I am not saying it is the best but how old is the software version 1.7 model.

Possibly, but they're illegal in most places. If you get caught, I think its a misdemeanor though...
