i would love to own a clean integra someday. never have ridden in one yet. is it really that good?

 

Properly modded, they won't be the fastest on the road, but are a lot of fun to drive. They're light, very nimble with the right suspension mods. Very low center of gravity makes high speed turning a lot of fun.

Oh man, if I could get another 50 ft-lbs of torque out of this car it would be SO MUCH FUN. I don't want to go there though because it would require changing camshafts and cam gears which would require a tuning and ecu upgrade and upgrade to the fuel system, which of course would also be a good time to upgrade the pistons, rods and valve springs among other things. I'll leave that to another day when I fix my old B18C1 block sitting in my garage.

 

Forgot to mention one thing. Prior to installing my bike rack, I was able to get 33mpg with the suspension mods and 17" wheels. As long as I'm not heavy footed, upgrading the intake system (intake, TB, intake manifold) should increase my MPG as well as upgrading the headers. I know this because when I upgraded my intake and headers on my previous integra, my mileage went up. Unfortunately, the bike rack hurts my mileage quite a bit. So far I've only been able to get as high as 27.x MPG.

So not only is it a lotta fun to drive, but you can save money when you need to.

 

Disregard my last post. I just saw your earlier posts again. I completely forgot you have a DB8 as well. Have you done anything to yours?

H&R Coilovers, AEM V2 intake, piaa fog lights, Type R 23mm rear sway bar, Comptech Sub Frame reinforcement bar, 35% Tint, upgraded sound system, Type R shift boot , and Skunk2 shift knob...

I think that's pretty much it, still looks stock, which is how i would like to keep it... i get enough attention as it is...

I've been wanting to do the Type-R rear sway upgrade. Was it easy? After reading some of the threads over at team-integra.net, I've learned that you have to buy some extra parts to make it fit the GS-R is that correct or did yours just bolt right up?

Also, what do you think of the comptech sub frame reinforcement? This is what you bought right?



I picked up the CT-Engineering Cold Air Box and Intake recently, but I'm waiting to install because I'm gonna send the piping out to be coated by Swain Tech and install it after I've purchased an Edelbrock TB and figure out what I'm going to do about port matching my intake manifold. I need cheaper hobbies or I need to make more money. Sadly, this stuff isn't that expensive when I think of the mods I want to do for the Avant, but I just can't do both. Hard to do.

Even though I love my TL, I miss my 01 ABP CL-S. I never should have gotten rid of that car. You make me want to go out and find another one

 

Every now and again I miss my '03 CL-S white/ebony nav/6-spd. Yes 1 of 13 (15?) ever made and I let it go.

It's either using this or the ASR brace, OR going the cheap route with a Beaks SRK ($70) I originally bought the Beaks, but I didn't like the fitment, and i had to "make a hole" for it to work. I ended up getting the comptech.

Complete bolt on job. Just buy new Prothane bushings + brackets since the stock ones are too small. Since I went with the comptech sub frame bar, one of the bolts that holds the sway bar brackets, wasn't long enough. I just purchased two longer bolts from a local hardware store.

What I like about the comptech sub frame bar is that it strengthens the rear and provides stronger mounting points for the sway bar. A must IMO since the 23mm is a huge upgrade to the stock one.

From what I've read over at team-integra is that you run the risk or tearing out the sub frame if you don't install some sort of sub frame reinforcement.

I thought I wanted a TL for more room with the 4 doors, but I never see any CL's around town, I just blend in with the rest of the TLs. There's a 01 ABP CL-S for sale up in Mass or somewhere like that for $4000. 160k miles though. So tempting to sell the TL and work on the CL

That is an awesome thread. Thanks again for the info. I'm definitely going to do this mod as soon as I can to tighten up the rear.

 

One of the reasons why I let the CL-S go is because there just aren't that many mods out there for the car and I missed owning and Integra just that much that it didn't bother me at the time. I think I miss the CL-S more so now because of how rare it was, not necessarily because of how great of a car it was because I have a lot more fun with my Integra than I ever did with the CL-S.

 

You're right, there isn't much to do with them. Oh well, can't do much now about it right? Live and learn.

This is probably coming out of left field, but you could probably do well keeping the mods to a minumum and work on just keeping the car in good shape. You were unbelievably lucky to get a stock(ish) GS-R to begin with. If you kept it nearly stock (which you have done, the mods are tasteful though), you could get a pretty penny for it later down the road.

Best of luck, stock or heavily modified, these cars are great.

Will do. Actually, do you recall the larger bolt size you used for the subframe brace? When I do perform the upgrade, it'll be handy knowning the size I'll need prior to starting the install.

I know what you mean. After I got the car my goal was to get it checked out and see what I would need to do to get it in good working order. That was an ordeal in itself. Getting the radiator replaced, brakes replaced, clutch replacement, and to top it off needing the motor to be rebuilt was not what I expected out of this. But it's like I have a new car now, and a car I like very much. There were many things I did wrong with my first Integra. I learned from those mistakes and am going with a much simpler approach to this one. As for fetching a pretty penny for this later. This car is a keeper. I'm not letting it go.

Both the silver and black are listed as compatible with the 1994-2001 Integra (Non Type-R). The fact that they state it's compatible with the Type-R worries me because if I don't know if upgrading my rear sway to a Type-R rear sway will introduce any problems later. Do you know why they state that it's incompatible with the Type-R?

I'm emailed the seller and Nate over at CT-Engineering, hopefully will hear back from them soon, but wanted to get your take on it as well.

Also, did you upgrade your end links when you did the sway upgrade or did you keep them stock? I'm wondering if the Type-R rear sway will break the end link in certain situations.

 

What do you guys think of this gauge pod? With the problems I've had with the teggy I've been wanting to install an oil pressure gauge at least to monitor the motor. Don't know what the 2nd gauge should be. Autometer has a narrowband air/fuel ratio gauge that I'm thinking about. I liked this pod because it looks pretty slick and it appears to flow well with the dash. I used to like the pillar pods, but those along with the instrument cluster bezel pods i've slowly disliked over time.







Thoughts? suggesstions?

How much does it cost...

You'd probably be better off getting a ODB II computer...And you can use it with all your cars.

 

The cost of the pod is $70 including shipping. Each gauge can vary in price depending on the style I decide to go with, but for the most part they range in price from $70-$150. This doesn't count any additional hardware that may be necessary either, but all the gauges do come with all the necessary wiring. I'll also need to buy a sandwich adapter for my oil filter to have a place to install the sender unit, those are cheap though, only about $30 right now because they are on sale.

Is the OBD II computer installable in the computer or are you referring to the iPhone kit you were telling me about?

 

To add, the reviews/threads I've read from those who have installed this in their teggy's is that it's a great fitment and looks great in person.

 

You can get one where the "gauges" are in the ipod...but there are still readouts to send to a computer (windows app)...thats about 140 for the ODB/wifi plug and another 40 for the iphone apps

Or you can buy other ones such at the autel for $99 with have a little computer with a screen in them and can download the into the computer (windows app)

 

I'm only making the suggestion because if you are having issues with the teg...do you want to put the money into the car...or a product that you can use in all your cars?

 

I never driven one of these. How do they compare to a TSX in terms of handling? Huge difference because of the weight?

Unfortunately, after looking this one up and the autel units, they don't provide oil pressure information. But the diagnostics aspect of these tools still are great. I may do the physical gauges and the iphone app. Having an oil pressure gauge is just a great help on a daily basis because teggy's tend to burn oil when they are in V-TEC and that's something that is hard to avoid

Side note: I did end up finding my OBD II scan tool this past weekend, can't find my manual for it though Last weekend when my CEL went off, turned out that my cat was failing and it needed to be replaced. Also found out that my Clutch Master Cylinder was leaking and got that replaced too. Shifting is SO much better now.

 

I've driven the TSX numerous times, but not the newer, v6 version. only the older 4 cylinder ivtec version. handling wise, the Integra felt more solid. The TSX felt a little spongy to me in the steering. That's one thing I've noticed with newer Acura's all around, but I guess an aftermarket suspension can fix that. As for performance, I wasn't impressed with the TSX in that category. The bump in hp and torque didn't feel like it was enough. As for looks, I've always liked the way the 1st gen looked, that's one thing the TSX and Integra shared in common, simplistic, yet very nice looking design.

 

You've got a good point. It'd be nice to have something I could use for the Audi as well. I'm going to add the iPhone app to the list.
