Well...the S2000 needed more doors, more driven wheels, and a lot more torque...

One of the ladies in our procurement office is in her husband's 3 today, dark gray, which looks nice too.
Black was free at the start, now white is free so that's why those two colors are so common. Red is like a $2500 option (or was at least, might be more now) so that's why it surprises me that so many are red. The other colors are $1k options.

Silver is really rare, I think they only did it for a year or two and not many got it. The gray looks ok but, IMO, it's kind of dull looking. That color might be free now too? Not sure.

Red is $2k. Black is $1500. Blue is $1k. Grey and white are free.

Silver was 2018 only. I've seen one, and I wish it was still an option - it's pretty nice. The dark grey is just meh. Like you said, dull. There's a lot of Long Ranges around me that are either white, red or blue. Most of the performances here are black.

Do you see a bunch of Performance models? I barely see any, almost everyone here has the LR models because AWD. A few standards around but not many. Most common colors by far around here are white, black, and red. Blue/gray is equal after that and silver is incredibly rare.

I honestly wish I would have gone with a white one but the wife already has a white car so that wasn't a thing. Plus wife said she wanted a blue one with a white interior...so we compromised and got a blue one with a white interior.

I'd say 1 out of every 10 is a performance model - that I've seen at least.

If we didn't have a dog and a kid I would have gotten the white interior.

I have both and it looks fine lol.

I'll post before/after pics of detailing the interior when I do it. I've never cleaned the seats in the year I've had the car and they still look stark white. I definitely don't take any precautions with them either. Jeans, dirt, sweat, food, drinks, whatever, everything goes as if the seats were any other color and they still look great. I'm honestly very surprised. That said, I have had to clean up a few spills here and there but they wipe up easy.

I'm not sure I'd know a LR from a Perf at a quick glance.

Best way to tell from a distance is red calipers on the Perf vs not red on the LR. Also the wheels but people swap those around all the time.

So many people put red caliper covers on their standard or long range brakes so it's hard to tell based on that.

Eh, it filters most of it out. Nothing stopping someone from taking a red sharpie to underline their "dual motor" badge either lol.

And I'll have a Jeep sized hole in my garage this evening. It's sold pending pickup tonight. Went way faster than I thought it would...now I need to get the Tesla cleaned up and listed as well.

Wow, that was a quick turnaround. Not much shortage of buyers for JKU/JLU in good condition, I'm sure.
for the 1 sale, and good luck on the next. Should go just as quick.

Eh, pretty sad now. Either way I have to now figure out another car so I can have it on hand if the Tesla sells fast otherwise we're down to one car and that'll suck lol.

Facebook Marketplace. Went pretty smoothly for this one.

Ok now I need some help. I plan on putting the Tesla up for sale this weekend and anticipate (hope) it goes fast so I need something in my pocket before we're stuck as a one car family...which won't work for us.

Need some insight on what to get as a stop gap car between now and when the Rivian arrives. This does not have to be something astonishingly great or whatever, just not a snooze to drive.

Requirements
  • Price: No more than $35k, less is better
  • Decent fuel economy, don't want a Tahoe, truck, or anything like that.
  • Ability to hold value for the next 1 year ish
  • Safety features, don't want a death trap for my daughter. Adaptive cruise and BLIS would be great
  • Nice to have Android Auto
  • Manual would be cool but not required
  • Space to carry baby and all her shit (no coupes)
Current leading contenders:
  • 10G Accord 2.0T sport or Touring
  • F15 BMW X5
  • F30 BMW 335
  • F10 BMW 5 series
  • MB E Class
  • Focus RS (not sure if this will have the space though and may go outside the price budget)
  • Audi A4/S4
What else?

Accord X seems the best bet. Likely lowest running costs of that list & the only one that will take 87.

2nd choice, for me, would be the E , but you'd probably end up in an E300 with the 2.0T, not bad in the C-Class, but not sure how that motor copes with the bigger E. Not sure how late they still made the E350 with the N/A V6, but it'll be thirstier than the 2.0T.

Buy the JE Accord here, I'll hold it at my house for you, have a beer & a chat then drive it home. I'll swap you a nice cutting board for storage fees

Why get out of the Tesla right now? Prices aren't coming down for a while, and it's cheap to operate, so... I'd just hold onto it until the Rivian is delivered.

I don't think that'll be true for how long it's going to take to get the Rivian. With the way shit is going in the market now, we're going to see a decline in sales for expensive cars pretty soon. Debt isn't cheap anymore so people aren't wanting to buy $70k SUV's as much as they did last year. Guaranteeing a $10k profit sounds pretty appealing.

I still foresee a $10k profit by the time the Rivian is ready. There will still be a demand for Teslas and the wait times aren't getting any shorter.

Helped by his 3P being not white or black.
I'd think blue & red pull a bit more of a premium, blue for being a less common color.

Teslas are holding their value. Because of all the price hikes and wait times you should be able to make a profit on the car, though it probably your best option to keep it imo, your druthers.

I'll throw a curve ball.

Kona N...great reviews, quick, sporty, hot hatch. Should have space for the kiddo though its not a giant car by any means. And Im guessing it would hold its value for a year.

Spoke more seriously with the wife about this and I think we're going to do what you guys are saying and keep the Tesla for now. It's paid for, cheap to run, cheap to insure, already has winter tires, and trading it for the Rivian in the future will have a big savings on taxes so we'll just roll the dice on the value for now.

As far as the Hyundai goes...I'd rather just find a 6MT Genesis G70 or something. Those are super economy cars from what I've heard.

We'll keep the Model 3 and see what happens.

As far as the proceeds from the Jeep, we're just going to hold on to them for now. Want to wait until our move and stuff is over before finding another toy. Nice to have the extra cash on hand too.

I think you are making the wiser decision. It's also a super safe car.

I dont think of $35k prices when I think of Genesis, but maybe thats the used market now. I dont follow these things anymore so Im out of the loop.

Agreed. The ditch the Tesla thing was kind of a gut reaction to making a bunch of money to essentially make the switch to the Rivian free when factoring in the tax incentive.

Hopefully the values stay high and wait times remain long for a while lol.

I think holding the Tesla makes sense. I know Hyundai has made huge strides but I still remember the '85 Excel that was only slightly better than the Yugo & was a huge POS.

I'd still avoid them although I know they are much better now.

you always make the right decision.
Plus, like you ORIGINALLY said...you put both on chopping block and whichever sold first was fine...
Tesla technically wasn't even going to be for sale once the Jeep went you just probably got excited at the cash in hand from the Jeep and figured why not double that...
I like sitting back, one good reliable no gas car for the fam and then sitting on a stack waiting to find what tickles your pickle fancy

I'm here to balance that by always making the wrong choice, like getting a 10mpg monster just before gas triples!

lol

Thanks J, appreciate the words.

I'll start the search for a new toy after we move in the fall. In the mean time I'm going to enjoy having space in the garage to set up the wood shop and not have to worry about cars being outside. Now I just need to get better so I can actually get out there and set the shop up...

I wholeheartedly plan on getting something that makes a lot of noise and gets shit gas mileage...just not yet. Similar to the Jeep, IDGAF as long as it's not my daily driver.

I've been having to go in to the office a lot more lately and also need to take my daughter to daycare and stuff.

The hilarious part is that, out of the options I'm considering for a "fun" car...the Tesla and Rivian will both be faster lol.

I've been thinking about picking up a Miata for a fun car. That's obviously the complete opposite of the Tesla
