Well I learned to drive stick, on a Corvette Z06
with prom coming up i told my girl id drive my dad's car that night.
only problem is i didnt know how to drive it haha.
so i had my dad take me out today.
after a few irrate ear chewings about my clutch dumping i finally started to get the hang of it.
it just took me a while to learn that "the clutch isnt a damn on/off switch" as my old man put it.
the car is SUPER fast. DAMN.
made a right turn from a stop sign with a car oncoming,
Dad says "well youre gunna have to get on the gas if you wanna pull out in front of cars like that"
the next second he was pressed back in his seat :P

Wow, noice! I learned on a raggedy Integra.... which happened to be my own
Nothing like a real manual transmission and rowing the gears... not that silly "automated manual" multi-clutch bs. Its gotta have 1 clutch, 1 clutch only and a clutch pedal otherwise its not a real manual.

That was uncalled for...
I mean this with the utmost respect, but I'd never let a new stick driver learn on my Z06...
When I tried to teach my girlfriend on my 92 VW Golf, that was more of a learning/teaching car
But you're a lucky guy thats for sure

You are so lucky, though, that your dad loves you so much that he'd let you touch his Z06. As a father, it brings a tear to my eye. *snif*

I think it's lucky your pops let your learn on the Z06. I took 2 classes at Driver's Ed (from my uncle, no less) then a few years later, I learned on the GF's (at the time) '01 Accord coupe (4-cyl). By far no 'expert' but I could be the DD if the guys and I go out without having to destroy the clutch.

the first half of our 25 minute journey was a little shaky but the last half went pretty smooth.

Wow so lucky! I had to learn on a early 90's Ford, I think it was a ford contour or something. Then like four years later I relearned how to drive on my friends RSX, and then over xmas break I drove my cuz's s2000. my roommate lets me drive his bmw 3 series from time to time to see if I could be the DD when we go out.

I owned a '99 C5 6MT for 3 years and that car could get you in trouble in a hurry. The Z06 is way faster.
Put it in Active Handling Mode. Hold down the traction control button for a few seconds and it should come up and say ACTIVE HANDLING on the driver info screen. What this does is turn traction control OFF but leaves stability control ON. You can burn the tires all you want but if you oversteer too much it will correct for you. Very nice feature. Wish Honda would have given us that on the TL.

It's cool your Pops is letting you take his Vette for Prom. I prefer a limo - let someone else do the driving-especially if you are going to any after Prom parties- you get dropped off and picked up at the door, and you can go with other couples which is fun. Plus your date could look silly getting in and out of a low slung sports car wearing a Pr0m dress. But that's just me. Have a blast, be safe, and remember WRAP YOUR WANG!

Yeah driving that thing makes me wish my TL had a 6MT
oh yeah, i also wish it had a 505 HP/475lb/ft torque engine.
(actually no i dont becuase the torque steer would put me into the next county. but let me have my fantasies.)

I never learned
My brother gave me his auto Galant.. Drove that until I bought my auto CL.
Never had a car to learn on, never had a reason to learn.
One time this girl came over to my house in her car, which was a manual, which she was JUST learning how to drive. She couldn't put it in reverse to back out, asked me to do it. Not even thinking I was like yeah sure. I got in, realized WTF I don't know how to drive a manual. Played it off like "Wait I know you can do this yourself. You're just not confident. Get in here and show me you can."

A friend tried to teach me to use a stick shift with his 1970 Challenger 340 4-barrel R/T- never got it out of second, and left a bit of rubber in the parking lot.
Then I learned to use a manual, using every gear, on a late-'70s or early '80s Toyota pickup in 1982 or so.

I feel the need...
My first car was a 1980 Mazda GLC, 4-speed manual and Rear-wheel drive FTMFW!
Loved that lil puppy, bought it for $350 bucks, 10 years old and all rusted to crap, had 76k on the odo -- was surely amongst the top 5 ugliest rides in high school - but I had no shame. Think I set a record for donuts in the parking lot after a snowstorm.
Oh, and my dad taught me on an '84 datsun/nissan sentra diesel.

I bet your prom dates dad won't get much sleep worrying about your driving a high performance car and his daughters safety but congrats on learning. I learned on a 1990 Ford Escort LX. It smelled like farts until the cat converter was fixed under warranty.
