Is the VW Passat an old mans car?
Is the VW Passat an old mans car?
This guy I work with has been giving me shit about owning an old mans car (01' CLS). Turns out he drives a VW Passat. That's my definition of an old mans car but he claims that mostly young people drive it. So I put the question to you: Is the VW Passat an old mans car?
what the hell is wrong with that guy?! Hes trying to look like a gangster driving a passat? Dont get me wrong my ex gf had one and they were pretty cool but its not a "macho man car"....I would much rather have a cls.... besides old people dont drive coupes bc theyre hard to get out of...

actually, i see it more as a college kids car. Young people (early 20's), at least from what I"VE seen seem to think of it as a classy teutonic sedan, and it actually is. Friend of mine has one, and it has a very solid feel to it. Excellent plastics inside, and nice touches such as damped action on the passenger grab handles in the roof, and real wood trim. Very good car.
But now the CL-S. Hell no that is not an old man's car. Sure its understated, but by no means meant for old people. Old people = buicks or lincolns.

I've been around long enough and owned enough cars to know what an oldman's car is and isn't.

Young woman/family/gay guy car...I know people in all three categories that drive a Passat. I don't know any young single straight men that own one. The CL can be an old man's car...I know a rather successful 60 year old with a bum leg that drives a new Monte so I don't think it's always about getting in and out of a coupe. But the CL is a fun car that any age can enjoy.
All I can say is, don't worry about it. If you enjoy your car, that's all the matters. It's a great car and you should be happy with it no matter what some moron says. He's just trying to rile you...maybe he has "fun-car" envy says. lol

With depreciation taking its toll, the top of the line Passat W8 was intriguing. However, it's spotty reliability turned me away. Life is a big enough pain in the ass. I don't need my car giving me fits. Anyhow, I finally drove an auto W8 and it was slow as hell in comparison to how it should move with its 4L V8. Allegedly the manual tranny version drops a sec off its 60mph time, which would make it a contender in my book again. Nice enough inside. Stealth sport sedan on the outside. Two thumbs up from me, but I'll never own one.
No, I don't think it's a old mans car like a Toyota Avalon or Buick, but it's not a young persons car either.
30 something y/o with a spouse and family probably is one of the demographics that drive it...

The V8 was an effort to goose the perception, but it didn't exactly take off in the marketplace. I had random access to a Passat 4, and found it sluggish and aenemic........
Who gives a fuck.......a Bentley Arnage is not a car for 20 somethings.
But guess what, I don't know too many 20 somethings who wouldn't pimp a Bentley Arnage.
This goes for most full size luxury cars.
