VW 2006: Engine light

Hi, I am new to this group. I have purchased a 2005 VW Passat Wagon and every 5,200 miles the engine light comes on. I was wondering if it comes on just to remind you that it's time to check your oil? Is this how the VW service dealers are able to charge you and arm and a leg for theirs? Thanks, Becky

Also you should be under warranty and will take care of the engine light.

If its a service light, then read the manual and it should show you how to reset it.

Most cars have service lights that go off, its to remind you its time for an oil change!

A check engine light is a different story...

1. read the owners manual regarding the "light" you see
2. ask the question at a VW forum such as Vortex mentioned above
3. I assume it has come on more than once based on your post, what did you do to get it to go off before?

Give the person a break, they are either a troll OR they didn't realize there were specific car manufacturer forums and thus dropped into Car Talk here, at the very least they posted in the correct forum!
