There's always a traditional parts washer that might do the trick ?

But an ultrasonic cleaner for car parts has always intrigued me.. I've used one to clean rings and such, but never a large scale one

On top of this, I have this DIY bookmarked from @KaMLuNg from years ago

https://www.garagejournal.com/forum/...r-mods.200871/

I've thought about building this to clean up parts but haven't gotten to it...

i have a small U/S cleaner that is good for light stuff like nuts and bolts... they are also good for cleaning dirty fuel injectors... you can run a little solvent in them and they heat up really nice... this is the one i have. it can fit a pair of glasses or four injectors for size reference...

https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

the standing hf parts washer is good for larger parts that are greasy and you need to clean off before working on them or reinstalling (i.e. valve covers, water pump housings, axles, etc) the filter mod is good because it doesn't reintroduce the grime back onto the part while you are washing them... i have it set up at my buddy's house because we have to repack wheel bearings on his plane every year... honestly i haven't had a needed it for car stuff, usually i'll soak it in a 5 gallon tub of solvent overnight to break up the grease and then hose/pressure wash it clean in the driveway...

the other 'mod' for parts cleaner is running it through the dishwasher (just make sure your wife doesn't know)... at my old house when i renovated the kitchen i kept the old dishwasher and set it up in the basement next to the washing machine so i could take the water line and just drained it into the laundry sink... the hot water and detergent really breaks up all the grease really well, just make sure you get off any large chunks because it can clog the unit...

Old motor is totally stripped down of it’s go fast parts, harness, transmission, mounts, etc.

Next up cleaning, lots of cleaning and starting the assembly process.

A lot more varnish than I was anticipating but cams on both banks are in acceptable condition @ 119k miles. Lighting of this photo makes it look like there's a lot more cam wear ... but, surface wise everything is smooth and not deformed.

More good news is, cam chains are tight .. so happy about this lol.

Other than some seals and timing belt, she should run like a top.

I appreciate that man!

This has been 6 years in the making but if I've learned anything ...

The biggest hurtle is renovating - once that's done, you make a very strict policy (ahem, to the wife) of anything from the house makes it in there / isn't garage related or approved makes it's way to the sidewalk.

I am not kidding about that .. it's the only way I've been able to keep it like this.

I think @CLtotheTL32 would agree - his garage stays clean and I'd imagine it's from the same rule book

bro...
it's my ONLY space in the house.
Anything she doesn't want to look at she puts in the garage and i immediately move it to her closet or somewhere she won't see it but will hate it when she dicsovers it.

I also envy your garage. My wife will just open the door and toss whatever in there for me to deal with later lol. Also doesn't help that my garage is covered in a fine layer of sawdust...

Mostly cardboard but I'll see what I can do. I've told her that all boxes that end up in the garage will be stacked on top of her car, we'll see how this goes.

She'll withhold the one thing you can't live without. A hug.
Then you'll move the boxes.

All parts are pending for tomorrow's pickup and/or sold, can't believe how fast they all sold with the exception of my turbos

Priced fairly but still got a nice haul.

Feels good to move parts quickly, but makes you wonder if they were priced too low.

I'd say they were priced between crackhead / too cheap ... fair - Something I had going for me is a lot of these parts are pretty desirable / supply chain is a bitch right now.

Checking account is happy.

Mmmm, indeed.

I just saw a 111k mile Imola with the same exact options get listed for $17k ... similar condition interior / body wise and my mileage is a bit higher.

I saved the ad because I'm curious what it goes for ... if it's anything over 14k I will be pretty happy .

Hoping to have a 7-8k profit if I decide to sell.

I entertained keeping it but, I'm selling.

Stock turbo / stock tune S4s are great but I already have an S4 that is built out perfectly to what I want with loads of parts to refresh it when that time comes.

I miss driving it .. it's currently being stored at my mom's house since I can't stand the fact of it being outside .

Moms are the best .

Made a little progress this weekend.

Top end reseal complete - did both valve cover gaskets, camchain tensioner half moons, and waiting for some cam caps to arrive.

Finally got to use my cam chain tensioner tool - depresses the chain tensioner so you can loosen the intake cam /
caps / give yourself just enough room to service these bits.

Next is cleaning up the transmission, engine, and repairing some of the old harness before throwing it back in the car.

Also stole the valve covers off of my old engine - much much cleaner than the ones

Note: If you want those valve covers to look brand effing new use some acidic aluminum wheel cleaner on them. Spray on...sit for a couple minutes, rinse off. I did this on my old b7 Valve Cover. Looked like brand new.

I was storing the other S4 at my mom's house since I don't have any garage space right now ... randomly popped by her place this AM and swapped cars - guess this thing will be my daily for the next few weeks

This thing is an absolute blast - as I was getting back from lunch, I randomly spotted a vendor who I work with who used to have Supras back in the day / we'd always shoot the shit on calls.

Decided to give him a rip and he's like damn, yeah ... this is way faster than what my MK4 Supra was

Feels good to get compliments from time to time.

No big news on the Imola - I purchased a steam cleaner to help clean the transmission / all of the rest of the parts.

Powerplant is starting to look factory fresh - need to install the wiring harness / rest of the turbo inlets and clean up the engine bay.

Slowly but surely ... getting there.

You are a wise man .

As much as this project can be fun / keep me focused on something and feel a sense of accomplishment, it's a little stressful walking into the garage with shit everywhere.

It'll be a bit refreshing getting back to normalcy / putting most of my attention into the blue car again - there's some front suspension pops going on, poly bushings in the rear are squeaking, it needs an alignment ... you know, all the 20 year old car things .

I'm just old, not wise.
I know that feeling, I HATE disarray...which reminds me...I need to tackle my toolbox project little by little to move some of my shit into it.
Right now it stores my car parts for each model

Agreed with both, my shed is a wreck & I cringe when I have to go in there to get a tool.
Getting the inside of the house done has taken priority.

the other hack to clean dirty engine parts is to use oven cleaner... i let the parts bake in the sun to warm up a little then spray oven cleaner on them and let it bake a little more... the grime usually just melts away... even better if you get the foaming lemon scented one...

Not bad!

Realistically, I could throw together the drivetrain in a day but I've been meticulous about cleaning / taking my time - I just need to do a few repairs of the electrical harness, throw the harness on, clutch on, and re-attach the transmission and it's pretty much ready to go.

A lot easier said than done but, I suspect this project will be running and driving without codes in 4 months.

I've seriously been enjoying the hell out of the Nogaro.

A buddy of mine picked up a 2014 RS7 and of course we did a few runs on the highway - B5 walked him by 2 cars from 60-130mph on multiple runs.

The moment that RS7 gets a tune it's game over - thing is dumb fast even stock.
