Lug nuts came early and wheels are mounted.

I'm a fan!

It's pretty much as OEM+ as I can get ... especially with 10mm spacers.

Wheels are torqued properly and have the right amount of air in them ... I get a strange vibration and the previous owner (who I trust their word) says they didn't have any vibration issues when they ran them less than a month ago.

I will remount / reassess when I have time, otherwise I love the look .

Thanks for reading.

Pulling up next to somebody not paying much attention at a stoplight... the only thing that gives anything away is the Nogaro blue.

That and the Flexfuel and S4 badges getting smaller and smaller in the distance

Somehow missed the Flex Fuel badge that's great.

Wheels look awesome! They really compliment the cleared front headlights.

I got to say .. one of the best feelings ever is having a M3s, Scatpacks, C6 Vettes (Z06 would be close), Camaro SS, Mustang 5.0s (pre 2020s) come up to you and get their doors blown off from a seemingly OEM looking / quiet car

Recently had a few runs with an F80 M3 Compeittion package and it was around 5-6 cars from 60-130 with him having a slight jump.

Sleeper status ftw!

Few items of preventative maintenance to start / hopefully finish before the baby is here;

- Buy a new filter, should be here tomorrow.

I went with an AEM dry cone filter because a member on the B5 group posted up what's been happening with cheapo Spectre Autozone / Pepboys filters. There's a metal ring inside of the filter that's epoxied on over repeated heatcycles, it can turn into turbo food.

I originally bought the Spectre filter in the pinch since my last filter disintegrated before a logging session a year ago or so. Cheap insurance!

- Send out injectors for cleaning / flow testing.

I've been running ethanol for almost 18-24 months .. I lost track. Generally speaking, you're supposed to do annual cleanings if you want to be on the save side. Considering my injector duty cycle is like 85-90% (running EV14 630cc), I don't have much room for if an injector isn't performing as well as it should

In my case, preemptive maintenance can save an engine / turbos

I may pull my intake manifold and examine each piston with a camera once I get the results back (if flow is totally fubar'd) ... I have yet to do a compression test but maybe I'll follow up with that if needed.

Otherwise, car is running fantastic even in this 92 degree heat

You need to be preemptive to make it reliable

E46 is "done" ... maybe suspension / a windshield eventually. All kinds of nicks / cracks.

Buys unreliable car, gets unreliability jokes. Makes car reliable, gets reliability jokes

Sounds like the timing is working out pretty well! I'm sure it will be nice to have the car buttoned-up and ready for a drive anytime.

He's right, you know.

Truthfully, the only anxiety I have about the B5 is running out of gas .

If I flashed my tune to 91 I wouldn't hesitate taking it on a road trip.

Minor hijack: My B7 was a good car..but by no means as great as my 8V, My A3 is just Stage One 2.0T Quattro with a DSG tune as well...but every single day I drive it I smile big as i push down the gas pedal. It's just a fun dynamic quick car for a daily driver.

I can't see myself buying any other car but an Audi right now. But alas, I only have 50k miles on it and it's paid for.

And this 2.0T is so different than my 2007 B7. First of all even in stock form it was much more responsive and "tight" feeling. Smoother and more linear acceleration too. Then came the stage one. And I went with better turbo intake pipe (Non collapsible) and a modified stock air box. High flow dry filter. Tremendous change. But what really finished the package was the DSG tune. Shifts are very predictable and sure in all rev ranges. Sure there are faster Audis out there...but this is a trouble free quick and fun car to drive every day.

@1killercls
I concur.
I chased a manual S5...
but now that I have it and love it and drive it nearly every day I'm finding I'm not quite as ready as I thought to give up my DSG.
As it stands its our his/hers pair parked out front when she doesn't need to take the Suburban for family shit.
Audi is the shit.

End Hi Jack!

4-doors, awesome color, and I could live with the DSG over the MT.

B8 is such a solid platform.

Excellent tune-ability, reliability, looks great, and actually handles decently. Best part is .. they're a bargain.

Big updates from my end .. happy to share.

As of 8/30, I am officially a dad!

Baby girl arrived and she & my wife are in good health

Very surreal experience .. getting decent sleep and I'm actually back to work as of today .

As for the S4:

1: Pulled injectors for an annual checkup - being on E85, I am at around 80-85% injector duty cycle which means any lack of injector performance could mean misfires / lean conditions that could damage my motor. Did it more for precaution / preemptive maintenance.

Prior to cleaning, I had a 5% variance .. post cleaning, 2% .. 3% improvement overall isn't bad.

]

Spark plug reading indicates I have a lazy / dirty injector on cylinder 1. I swapped injector on cylinder 1 with cylinder 2 .. going to monitor and see if the cleaning helped.

Otherwise, not too bad!

All back together:

2: Ordered some new custom custom gauge faces .. pretty excited to throw them in:

3: Replaced my shitty Spectre filter for an AEM dryflow - I read on the forums that the Spectre filters have known to fall apart and the metal ring that holds the center of the filter together can become turbo food ... yeah, cheap insurance buying a new / better filter

4: Bought a new AFR gauge AC vent pod ... I did this ghetto a few years back and cut the vent up for the gauge to fit. On really aggressive starts, I've actually popped the vent out in 1st gear

For a 3D printed piece, looks pretty good!

Otherwise, car is running great!

Things in the future:

- I got a quote to get my roof repainted for $800 .. definitely going to get that done in the next month or two. Getting tired of the black roof .. doesn't flow well at all.
- Install budget BBK Toureg V8 4 piston calipers / rotors. Only thing holding me back is time .. I have all the parts sitting.
- Wrap interior wood trim with Piano black vinyl.

Thanks for reading!

Meanwhile, "updates" for me (or progress) is cheerfully reporting that I did NOT plow my Optimaudi into a curb.
