I think you spent more time modding the damn thing than even driving it.

That's typical for the majority of 86s

Congrats on the new vehicle! And good for not being stubborn about keeping something if you weren't enjoying it.

Sooooooo On the way to trade in the 86, my 10 year plus salesman called and said he had just gotten a 2012 Limited 4Runner in great shape, I was a little batty from the Covid shot and the Wife was pushing for a 4Runner so I called the Sequoia dealer, said a personal emergency came up and I'd be in touch.

I went, drove it and it was ok, I like the white pearlescent not so much all the chrome but for 5k less figured WTF. On the way home, I started noticing mission options.

No leather, no NAV, no dual zone or auto ac etc. It has an SR5 badge and he said sometimes they have both packages & it does have the big chrome bumper & fogs (again not a fan of the chrome)

I called and he said he's knock another grand off or we can unwind the deal. I don't want the 86 back to have to start over haggling it's value. I'm thinking I ask for the 17.5 & the 1k for the misrepresentation. Am I being unreasonable?

Found this:

https://www.justia.com/consumer/dece...-dealer-fraud/

Types of Auto Dealer Fraud

Common forms of auto dealer fraud include:
  • Inflating the total purchase price above the invoice or sticker price, such as by concealing options the consumer did not request, or by including other unapproved and undisclosed fees;
  • Falsely stating that optional features are required;
  • Advertising a vehicle for a certain price and then telling consumers that the advertised deal is no longer available and attempting to sell them the same vehicle at a higher price, often known as a “bait and switch” scheme;
  • Undervaluing or underpaying for a consumer’s trade-in vehicle;
  • Falsely representing a used vehicle, including one originally purchased from the dealership and then returned, as “new”;
  • Representing that a new or used vehicle has features or options that it does not have;
  • Claiming that a warranty offers protections that it does not offer, or falsely representing an extended service contract as an extended warranty;
  • Failing to disclose past damage from an accident, flood, or fire in a used car sale;
  • Misrepresenting the total mileage on a used vehicle through an odometer “rollback”;
  • Withholding any other material information about a new or used vehicle;
  • Misrepresenting a consumer’s credit score or eligibility for financing in order to get him or her to agree to a higher interest rate or other unfavorable terms;
  • Falsely stating that a consumer who is leasing a vehicle will own the vehicle when he or she finishes making payments;

a little confused...
the way it read it seemed like you were underwhelmed with it.
Are you saying it wasn't what you thought it was and it was too late and you took it home?

She likes it and seems to want to take the grand. I'm leaning to return.

It's my decision.

I think regardless of if it was an honest mistake, they misrepresented the vehicle.

and that was the day we learned that no matter what, all salesman are salesman in the end.
the worst ones are the ones that have already earned your trust.

anyway, fuck that. return it...a grand? what'll that get you? A bully bar and cool rear bumper?
No, get what you wanted and were excited for to begin with. I know there's a lot of hoopla about
the 4 runner but they ride hard and are small inside IMO. I'd rather an FJ Cruiser at that point, at
least that has cool doors. Sequoia would have been a cooler and different overland build...
shit, I'd even love if you still considered the damn Tahoe.

It's not exactly what I wanted, I was getting sick from the vaccine (been up all night, it's 70 degrees in here and I have the chills, feel like shit) and I feel like they listed it as a high optioned Limited.

I was not paying attention to specific options, I was paying attention to the way it drove, that it had no issues etc.

When I got home I looked at the sales page I posted and immediately saw it was missing all the Limited options.

This is my thinking. I'm going to ask for a check including the grand for the hassle and making me bring it back when I feel like shit.

a grand isn't gonna make you feel okay with getting the ole bait and switch.
Fuck that...
I'm sorry you don't feel well and I'm sure right now you don't want to deal with it
but when you do, you will not like that you settled for this option.

I felt like you settled for the 86 and look where you're at now. Take it back.

I wouldn't even ask for the grand...or ask for it and "settle" for them just taking their damn base model with chrome POS back.
Get your cash back and move on.

What's gonna happen with the 86? you selling it privately, right?

I traded it in for 17.5. I have had it on Offerup & Cl for over a month without a single real response.

I am going to return the 4Runner and ask for 18.5 (the 17.5 + the 1k "apology".

*edit* They had said selling to them was predicated on buying its replacement. I feel like the misrepresentation makes it reasonable for them to suck that up.

Take it back. That's not a limited no matter what and the lack of leather seats should have been the dead giveaway. Don't live for good enough.

Apparently, although they took us down last week they are running new fiber now. Trucks from this company are in front of the house.

Agreed, like I said I was loopy & am worse now, should have waited and not gone right from getting the shot.

Since it was advertised as having options on their site it does not have they have a problem amirite?

:P

I'm sure their site has some disclaimer on it that the statements may not be accurate on their site. That said, if they're offering you money as a "sorry" they've already appear to have admitted fault. I am not a lawyer though.

Also, that ad says that this is a RWD 4Runner? Is that even a thing?

They said if i bring it back they won't change the price, just the description. That the difference is only a few hundred bucks.

I don't care.

There is a huge difference between the Limited and the SR5.

Figure out what the SR5 should sell for, and what you'd have bought it for, and that's your price.

Unless the price they were asking was appropriate for a SR5 and they simply had it advertised incorrectly as the higher trim.

If you paid Limited price for a SR5, then they went in dry. The difference between the two trims is much more than 1k. The different wheels alone are worth 1k.

Edit: meh, looks like the price is maybe in line with what a SR5 goes for. So they probably just clicked the wrong trim box in the ad.

It's going back, my point is they advertised it as limited, when questioned I was assured it was limited. Obviously, I knew it did not have leather, I did not notice no moonroof until I was 1/2 way home.

Like I said, I'm running on no cylinders. Especially now, I went to sleep at 7:30 and got up at 11:30.

I vote return as well. Even if the price is in line with SR5 pricing, you won't be happy with it missing the options you want.

Feel better

Just spoke to them, they want me to take the 4Runner back and pick up the 86. I want a check. I suggested they give me credit and we wait for a suitable trade in. They are mulling it over.

no harm no foul...
I like that solution.
at the end of the day the reason you jumped is because if it was a limited then it was an excellent deal and you needed to make it happen.
but it's not and for a sr5 you would have probably skimmed over the ad.

Fold down the rear seats, there will be a little void under there.

Poop in it.

Fold seats back up.

Well, after doing that, it upgrades the truck from pedestrian SR5 to a TuRD Pro. So it'll be worth about $28k at that point... Might just want to keep it then.

Oddly there are a lot listed that way.

Trade back concluded.

Have a line on a Sequoia, hopefully this afternoon, if not noon tomorrow.
