Whatever you do Tim, I would not buy a new car. Don't compound the loss on the M5 by taking a huge depreciation hit on the next car IMO.
Of your list, the A5 while slowest holds its value so incredibly well that if in 2-3 years you want to move on from it you'll probably be in the best position regarding resale of the cars you listed.

Of course, if you want horsepower on the cheap (inexpensive to buy and fix).. gotta go American.

I may just need to find a stopgap for now; something cheap to get me around...some additional developments last night.
Should never have gotten rid of the paid-off 3G TL. Hindsight is 20/20.

This, actually, might be a really good interim option (i.e. 1-2 years): http://www.autotrader.com/cars-for-s...19967859&Log=0

This may be a little too "low end" for you but my girlfriend has a 2012 Elantra. It's roomy inside and great on gas. She got hers for around $16k with 20k miles. Just a thought if you want something basic to get you around.

You want a truck now?
Shit you could buy a gently used fully loaded 5.7L Tundra for that price.

T, if you're going to get a truck, get this one. 5.7L TRD S/C.
I guarantee you this will pull your M5. M5 will run it down.. but you'll be barely digging your head from the headrest by that time.
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Super...ht_22711wt_802
Still a year on the motor and I'm guessing all TRD parts are warrantied past that as well.

The Tundra I posted is much shorter than a double cab Tacoma. My BIL has the same PreRunner with a short bed and he's able to park it in his small townhome garage but barely. The one you posted has a regular bed.. not going to happen. The Tundra will though. Now can you get out of the truck once you parked?.. that's another story.

This is absolutely killing me. I love this car.
No matter what I buy, it's going to be a disappointment. Maybe an interim vehicle, till we get the money thing dealt with (re: medical, etc.), will allow me to not resent something I keep long-term. Right now I'm wondering if that will be my reaction, just resentment and disappointment. Funny how much emotion plays into this; being an enthusiast has destroyed my ability to have just a weak Civic and live happily ever after.

It might be tough to let the M5 go but cars are cars. Don't get attached to any of them. You also don't need to spend a lot of money to have fun. HP is truly cheap.. so if you still want something fun and fast, it's attainable for not too much coin. If you get a truck and you only plan on having it for a couple years.. might as well buy the cheapest Toyota you can find. It'll drive around the earth 100x before it dies so it doesn't really matter if it has 10k miles or 100k miles.

Can't blow up any warranties with a tune right now. I think I'll be staying away from BMW for the time being as well; I just burn through the miles too fast and don't have any margin for error in the budget at the moment.

Awesome! Go drive one and let us know what you think!
Will you be selling the M5 privately or just trading it in?

R-Spec ftw.
Even though they look better, a lot of reviews say the 4.6 is just as good.

^Yea RSpec are quite new....Don't think owners of them would sell them back just yet.
I read C&D's "long term review," of the Genesis @ 42K miles. The car is solid, and the maintenance cost were low around $580 (total) including the rotor swap and break pads and i believe the oil change were all covered by the dealer. Also with Hyundai's generous warranty...It gives you confidence putting loads of miles on that car.
If you're thinking truck though, I like the tundra as well.

Someday, an RS6 Avant+
T - The best thing you can do is take care of the family. And whatever you get, you can trade in for lesser, but with warranty. Less out of pocket.
What exactly would you want? If you need a truck, the ones above are not a bad way to go. but if you want a car that can be a touch practical but quick, go check out a Legacy GT or the Genesis like you stated earlier. (or go WRX)

5.0 spec (4.6 spec):
0-60 in 4.8s (5.5s)
1/4 in 13.3s (14.1s)
60-0 in 109ft (116ft)
In terms of reliability.. the same, awesome.
Big problem is the 5.0 is new, and thus expensive. Not worth it, get the 4.6.

I now own a 2011, Black on black, Genesis 4.6, with 25K miles. I paid $31K, and they gave me $32,700 (with the tax savings) for the M5 (they first offered $28k). It's a very nice car and totally loaded; but I'm not feeling very celebratory at the moment. When I cease mourning the loss of the M, I'll post some pictures.
