Not to
again, but has anyone seen this thing? Hennessey took an Exige chassis/body, stretched it, dumped the engine and replaced it with the GM 6.2L motor and slapped on a pair of turbo's on it. ![Run](https://acurazine.com/forums/images/smilies/run.gif)

in my opinion that car beckons for a wing. the APR is a fully functional wing thats had much R&D in to making it what it is.
this is from APR

To me I wanted something that has a function. Everything on the back of the car serves a purpose. It does it well, I just need to go fast enough for it to do what they claim it will do

Spanning 59.5 inches and a height of 10 inches, this wing offers the perfect amount of downforce for the Lotus Elise. Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) analysis was performed on this wing to support validation of its aerodynamic design.

So I finally got everything needed to mount the new wheels on my car Friday. I ended up ordering a set of Conti ExtremeContact DWS tires. I didn't care for the all season rating, but it's the highest rated ultra high performance tire out there, without costing like $400 a tire. The DW model wasn't an option because they don't make the front tire size for my car. Because of the size I need, it limited my options to 5-6 brands only. I also ordered a TPMS retrofit kit so I can keep track of the pressures and temps. Plus the shop that powdercoated the wheels either messed up the valve stems or didn't properly put them on, because 3 of the 4 tires weren't holding air, with it leaking by the stems. Figured I may as well put a kit on the car.
I wanted to attempt to mount them myself (I bought a mounting machine recently), but my shop techs didn't want to help because they were too worried about scratching the wheels. I've used the machine myself maybe 20 times ever, so my confidence level in doing it myself was a little low. I also wanted to have someone to blame if they scratched it
. Anywho, they suggested I take it to some local shops in the area. I went to one down the road that's huge and always has high end cars with some pretty large wheels always mounted on them, figured they would be able to do it for me with care - but they actually turned me down. They didn't want to be responsible if they scratched the powder coating, especially considering I PC'd them a month ago, they claimed that the PC still isn't fully dry, which to me is a load of crap. I went back to my office and they told me to take it to another shop they know, which I did and was also turned down. This was craziness!
I went back to my office and said F- it, I'll do it myself, with or without anyone helping me. Earlier in the day I mounted a set of tires/wheels for a '05 Sentra I sold, and a tire for a Grand Caravan for a buddy of mine that needed a tire, so my body was "warm" and in the tire mounting mode because I did a bunch of others earlier in the day, so if there was a day I was feeling comfortable, it was Friday. So I started doing it alone, with no help from anyone other than them calling me crazy for trying to do it myself. I had a little trouble doing the first one because I was mounting them using the machine to mount clamping the lip rather than the inner hub of the wheel. The clamps had a plastic cover over them to prevent scratching but it was causing them to slide, not gripping the wheel with enough force. I took the covers off and figured if it scratches the lip at all, it's the lip on the backside of the wheel that wold never be noticed because the rubber is wrapped over it. I did that and it was clamping with full force and not slipping at all, which was a good thing. After that, mounting the rest of the wheels were drama free. Best of all, not a single scratch on any of the wheels at all. I took off the weights that the PC shop put on the wheels when they mounted the Yoko's back on them. I heated them up so I could remove them without scratching the finish, pulled them off, and was going to start to balance them, but the machine we have is a little annoying and complicated to use, and I'm not all to familiar with it. It's not a simple mounting machine, it works off a computer with intricate settings for many types of wheels and balance weight modes for the different locations that the weights can be put. I asked one of the shop techs and he gave me an attitude because he was busy doing something else so I said once again, F- it, i'll figure it out. And figure it out I did - BUT I ran out of time and had to leave home. I hope to go to the office tomorrow (we're closed Sundays) with no one else there so I don't have anyone to bother me and I'll attempt to balance the tires myself.
Anywho, this is the TPMS kit I ordered:

My brother has those tires on his Accord. He loves them. Great value for a performance all-season.

Went to work this morning, was contemplating trying to balance the wheels myself on the machine I have at work. It's not a simple model, it's computerized with a whole lot of different settings. I always struggle to get it right on any wheel I ever try to balance.
I took the wheels to the same shop that I went to mount the wheels to see if they would balance them for me. They told me it would take 2 hours to do it..Seeyaaa...Went to the second shop, they were closed. I was driving further down and saw a Monro Muffler shop open, and they do tires/wheels, so I went there. I had to wait 20 minutes or so, but they were cool and took me in. The mechanic struggled to balance the wheels. After over an hour and a half, he balanced the rear wheels but couldn't do the front. I had such a feeling that their machine isn't set up to balance the wheel type I had. When I got the wheels/tires back from the PC shop, they balanced the wheels and all the weights were on the outer part of the wheel, behind the spokes. There were no weights on the inner edge at all. This guy was putting weights all over the place, only because his machine was giving crazy readings. He gave up, they didn't charge me anything to do it, but I gave the mechanic a $20 tip for his efforts.
I was ready to take the wheels to my buddy in Brooklyn and have him do it, when I said I'm going to give it another shot with the machine in my office. I started futzing with all the settings, and noticed that there was a "static" setting for putting weights only on the outside, similar to where the PC shop put the weights. I quadruple checked everything to make sure I was perfect, and in the time it took the guy to balance one wheel today, I did all 4.
After that, cleaned the wheels up as much as possible from the soap that dried up while mounting the tires/wheels, and there were a bunch of scuffs from the other tires rubbing against the spokes from stacking the wheels so many times. The only other thing bothering me is that when I removed the weights that the PC shop put on, I heated up the weights/stickers to remove easy, and ended up using brake cleaner to make the double stick tape that came off the weights come off the wheel. I thought I wiped the brake cleaner off the wheel completely but I missed a few spots, so there are drip/streak marks on the outside of the spokes that's not coming off. I have to see what I can use to clean it off, as well as the rest of the rubber scuffs. I mounted them on the car, then cleaned down the original wheels before putting them into storage. Then I set up the TPMS system, which programmed flawlessly. Then I washed my car, and we have the end result. I drove home, didn't really get to go over 60-65, and at that speed, no wheel shake at all, balance seems perfect. I'll have to drive tomorrow a bit quicker to make sure that my balance was done properly.
The sun started to set, so the lighting wasn't so great. I'll take some better pics tomorrow...

No, I'm leaving that alone. It's going to be on the street most of the time and i'm having a hard enough time as it is not scraping the splitter going over bumps. The splitter now is somewhere around 4" off the ground. Any lower and it'll be catastrophic..

Yellow suits the Elise so good.
Kudos on not lowering. The Elise is one of those wierd cars that may look higher than normal because of the wierd body shape on wheels gaps but is actually on the ground. I couldn't imagine getting in and out of a lowered one...plus what that might do to the ride quality, or lack therof.

Yellow suits the Elise so good.

The Retrofit TPMS system works well...The only weird thing I noticed is that I put exactly the same pressure in both front tires (26psi), and the same in the rear tires (28psi). After the drive to work,, the Left Front was 29.2, Right Front 27.6, Left Rear 31.6, Right Rear 30. My fat ass is making the left side heat up more? ![Dunno](https://acurazine.com/forums/images/smilies/dunno.gif)

Im sure the driver weight does effect it. Especially since the car is much lighter then most, it doesnt need really stiff springs to compensate. So an average man will dramatically change the weight distribution.
