it would be really close. gs400 0-60 is about 6.0 and a tls is about 6.2. if the driver of the gs is shit your gonna get him cuase those things weigh alot. ive raced the 430 and was able to beat it with my current set up.

Why does it bother you?
Driver aside & stock vs. stock the gs400 should win in any scenario.

i let my ex drive my TLs and i was on stock rims the Gs400 was on 20's. . She beat him 3 of the 4 races. . . she lost off the line it was the first time driving my car. . .not saying i could beat him, but i think if i was driving it would have been CLOSE!!! anyway just my experience

Anyone who even tries to compare a stock TLS vs stock GS400 is out of their mind. The GS400 is EXTREMELY fast. You'll NEVER be able to catch up with it. The 6.0 vs 6.2 times are just ain't right. My brother has a GS400 and i have a TLP (not comparing it to that) and I know someone who as a TLS. They raced once and my brother off the line to 70 - 80 was about 3 to 4 car lengths easy. I love driving the GS400. It's unbelievably fast.
I also forgot to mention $50,000 vs $31,000.

I have raced a GS400 in my TL-S. My buddy drives his dad's GS, and I was able to hang with him to about 130 km/h. We raced from a dead stop, the TL inched up on him to 130 km/h, but I think their cars pulls harder than the TL's from 130-180 km/h cause he was up on me about 0.5-1 car length...
still the TL-S is just as fast, stock for stock that is.

The TL-S has a chance against a GS400 to the end of third gear at around 110 mph. I was browsing around at Clublexus.com and I saw that most GS400's have run high 14s and low 15s at the track. Seems to be the same with the TL-S around here.
Hope this helps.

I raced a 99 GS400, and it was a close one..but the GS did win though when we reached up to 110mph...not by much. You are comparing V-8 300hp and 310lbs of torque..against a V-6 260hp and 232lbs of torque. I mean Yea its heavy..but it's only 200lbs heavier than our cars.

I think back then the E55 was one of the fastest sedans. That and the M5/M3 (older model was sedan).

hahaha! INTERESTING....i RACED a Gs400 here in houston....it had rims, exhaust and dont know what else but also...about 4 asian guys in the car but o well....any who we are on 59s im minding my own....see this CLEAN WHITE GS400....noticed them looking at my car...they took off....i was like ooo a gs400 wants to play...the v8 sound in that car is CRAZY! so we exit bellaire.....going about 45...i throw it into SS and into 2nd....we roll around that pace...and he takes off... i instantly hit it......and til about 90ish i had him by atleast a car if not more.....we go at this for a while....and outcomes are still the same...until some ass in a OLD ASS CAMRY or something tried to race us toobut slammed into a bus because he couldnt stop....idiot...we werent even racing him...o welll....the GS400's run like 14.5's.......fast for a big ass car....but they handle like shiet..... so my opinion....its a Drivers Race....i ran 14.6's in my TL................

It will be a good, close race but the GS will win. Edmunds has the lowest time I've seen 0-60 in 5.5 seconds, Motor Trend 5.7 seconds, I've seen 6 seconds before. The TL-S is a low-mid 6 second car so it will be a close race up to about 80mph and then the GS will really start pulling away (better gearing, bigger engine).
The GS 400 was the fastest auotmatic sedan you could buy until the Supercharged Jag XJR and then the E55.
I think a member named Ruf stated he beat a GS before.

As far as performance goes, I did see a stock GS400 run a 14.5 @ 97mph about 3 years ago and AFAIK they're governed at 155mph.
I ran one on the highway with my 02 Max (pre Cattman Y-pipe); I came up from behind him and passed by--he didnt want to be upstaged and rolled up to my rear 1/4 pan while I was rolling @ 85mph. I had a slight pull on him by 125mph but I figure he would have taken me if we had clearer road. That said, a TL-S should do as well as I did.
In a 1/4 mile drag race, my money would be on the GS4XX but it'd be a good race nonetheless.

The GS400 was the fastest sedan on the road in 98. There's no way a stock TLS could keep up with a GS up to any speed. It's very fast relativel speaking to a big car that size.

I had a 2000 GS400 before i got my 04 TL. Believe me, the GS will beat the 04TL and TL-S in most if not all scenarios. I raced many tl-s and never lost in my gs! On the freeway, you can't touch the GS w/ tl-s. The V8 pulls hard. Where the 04TL and TL-S will destroy the gs is in a track type race, where cornering is a concern. The suspension on the GS is extremely soft and comfortable but the car leans and rolls BAAAAAAD on the stock setup. However, it can be fixed easily w/ some new springs and shocks. My biggest complaint is the FWD in our beloved acura's. I miss the RWD and V8 in the GS but I love my new TL!! Plus i like the extra thickness to my wallet!! :blaze:

Unless there was an aftermarket turbo for the TL. I wouldn't waste my time going after that LEXUS beast.

My mom has a gs400 with 20" rims and i have a 04tl on 19" rims, they stay right next to each other in all aspects except for the front wheel drive spin right off the line. The gs400 was the fastest sedan in '98 when they first came out.

A '98 Jaguar XJR ran a 5.0/13.5 in the 0-60/ 1/4 mile, respectively. Also, a '98 BMW 540i Sport ran 5.5/14.0 in the 0-60/ 1/4 mile. These times are both referenced from C&D.
