Yup. They sure are, and have been as long as I've been driving.
I've only got 20% in the back windows.

Q: Other than my car's front windshield, can I tint all the other windows on my car?
A: No. The California Vehicle Code prohibits tinting on the front driver's side and passenger side windows.

I had tints on ALL my cars when I lived in So. OC from 2000-2003 and I never once was even stopped for it. Mine were all in the 15%-25% range.
Don't know now but maybe they were light enough to not catch attention. I have 7% now so that'd probably catch attention.

I assumed he was talking about a moving violation as opposed to a fix it ticket.

The sizzle in the Steak
As far as I know it's still a fix-it ticket....not a moving violation.

No, it's not a MV, but however some counties have severely jacked up the price of the ticket (heard reports of $200+)
btw, it's TINT, not TINTS

That law has been around and well known since tinting was invented.

California should just break off the US and become it's own country already. Either that or hopefully an earthquake causes the earth to swallow it, because they are fucking up driving for everyone else. A lot of states adopt their dumbass laws and regulations making driving a tedious task instead of an enjoyable experience.
