Thinking about moving to something else..

Well many of you know I have my 05 TL. I've owned it since September of 2009 and have absolutely loved the car esp the gas mileage ( I used to drive a huge truck that got 9mpg) Anyway, once I decided to sale the truck I really had my heart set on a newer (02-06ish) Tahoe Z71. I looked and looked for weeks but never could find one. The girlfriend and I then decided to take a mini road trip and we took her mom's 06 TL, and I fell in love which inspired me to get one. I guess you could say it was spontaneous in a way but then again maybe not Still to this day I see a black or white Z71 Tahoe driving down the road and break my neck to get a view. I've always had a 4 wheel drive in the past & only 2 vehicles I've owned; a 96 Z71 2 door Tahoe and my 99 GMC Sierra. I've always ridden dirtbikes every weekend and been a huge outdoors person, i.e camping in the mountains etc. Now I've found since I have the TL, I have no way of transporting my bike anywhere unless a friend is already going riding Don't get me wrong I LOVE my TL and it's one of a kind where I live, and the ONLY one but I've been thinking a little about getting rid of the TL and getting something else in the same price range, hopefully less than 15k and less than 100k miles. I'm hoping to get some advice on this and help on picking out a vehicle..

A few things to consider is in a year or two I will be driving 40 miles one way to school probably 3x a week, but plan on moving into the city where school is located.

I'm even considering a newer Tacoma or anything like that but I just CAN'T STOP dwelling on a Tahoe.
Sorry this whole post is scattered all apart

I'd say the late model Tacoma, or a Nissan. You will get all of the utility you need, and better mileage and reliability over the Chevy.

Or just get a new Ram and be done with it (always liked those trucks). I'm not a truck guy, but if used like a truck, the pickup will serve you better.

^^^ Pinal you had a Titan?? You get rid of it for the Lexus? I haven't decided to get rid of my TL yet, this all an idea I came up with last night lol and I figured I'd get some input from you guys first. On the other hand, I looked at a Dodge Rumble Bee for 15k with 40k miles on it.. but I can't give up 4 doors and go to a single cab truck. I like the new Dodges too but Toyota's are so expensive man. It's just something about the Tahoe I love..

My buddy has a 95 tahoe and he loves it even though it's a rust bucket, I drive a 4Runner as my DD and absolutely love it, I would recommend a 4Runner or Tacoma

It definitely sounds like you should have a truck of some kind. A truck would be better for hauling the bike than a Tahoe. I've always liked 4Runners for SUV's, Ram's and F150's (or 250's/350's) for trucks.

^^ I love the 4-runners but I'd want the "new" bodystyle. My great uncle had an 08 or 09 and he said it got the worst gas mileage ever but also claimed it had a V8?? I guess it's when I had my Tahoe, I could fold the backseat down and voila! A bed lol All of that room for luggage yaddi yaddi and it isn't expose to the weather. I could pick up a 4x6 trailer to haul a bike or even better my riding partner has a 6x14 gated trailer. I can't find myself to like a Ford though

1421 posts in a little over 8 months on Acurazine? I guess the bigger question is, are you sure you want to leave Acura?

About your decision...

I just CAN'T STOP dwelling on a Tahoe.
No matter what you get, this won't stop. Get the Tahoe and don't look back.

Obviously you know the 2007+ is the best option (quality, interior, etc.), so as long as your bike fits, I say go for it (Silverado if not)...Chevys are built like tanks dude, it'll serve you well.

Whomever said the 4Runner got terrible mileage, it does. My mom had a 4Runner Sport V8 all time 4 wheel and the best I ever saw it get was 15.2. Now I guess in a tahoe that isn't bad but this thing wasnt that big. It was a company car so she didnt care about mileage but what a a dumb company.

That being said, I absolutely loved the 4 Runner and wanted one but not with that mileage. IMO the new ones are ugly but the current style Tahoe is amazing looking

if you like the tahoe, either get the 07+ tahoe or avalanche

both good vehicles. We looked and test drove an avalanche... but we needed more people space. impressive vehicle though.

you're talking about the V8, of course it will get poor mpg. if you want somewhat decent mpg get the V6

I have yet to drive a newer Tahoe but my friend's mom has an 04 2wd LT and I love the way it drives/rides/everything. Only thing that concerned me was the "paint" peeling off on the stereo knobs etc, which every GM vehicle does this over time lol

If you don't mind driving a 1500 C/K, there's a super clean '93 454SS for sale in NC. My dad and I looked at it last week. It's on Auto Trader and it's beautiful.

buy my moms. 04 suburban z71 with 60k miles

the paint is peeling off the stereo buttons and some parts of the dashboard too. wtf GM.

but if you think the 04s drive well, let me tell you, the updates ones are amazing compared to them. brake feel is soooo improved, as well as handling and cornering, and highway ride.

Tahoe's a good vehicle, one of the trucks GM builds very well, imo.

Just have to decide what you really want; reliable car with nice little luxuries, or reliable truck to haul your pastime around. Tough choice, I know. In a similar situation here as well.

I remember car shopping after selling my truck and I saw a black "Tahoe" on the lot. I pulled in and told the salesman to grab the keys, only to find out there was a box van parked beside it and realized it was a Suburban My hopes were shot down then lol

Shouldn't you keep your car if you're going to have a long commute?
When I start school in Chattanooga (which is about 45 miles from home now), I plan to be living in Chattanooga with my cousin who lives about a mile from campus. Then coming home on breaks.

Yes it is a very BAD situation lol I had a nice track day Saturday and it would've felt a whole lot better to be hauling the bikes down there with my own vehicle as oppose to depending on a friend.

Any way to keep the TL and get your dream Tahoe as well?
I wish I'd have to get like a 93 model that is a lemon lol I'm only 20 and I'm doing good to pay on the TL along with school going on and other expenses IMO

I'm now on the verge of selling the TL and looking into an S2000 and after neuron posted in here, it makes me want to look back into a CTS-V. It's almost as if I'm getting bored with the TL and it's not fun to drive anymore.. I kick myself in the ass all the time for not getting a manual transmission when I got my TL. I have so many mixed feelings guys IDK what to do

I just realized I've owned all my vehicles for about the same amount of time, maybe it's a trend? Got my Tahoe in July of 06 and sold in February of 08. Got the truck in February of 08 and sold in October of 09. Got the TL in September of 09 and sold in ________...

It's ok to change vehicles when you want as long as you are fine with how much it cost you. Might want to sit and talk to yourself for a minute before spending more money.

Decide what you can live with at least until you get out of school and make it happen. Just my thoughts.

Am I really losing money by changing vehicles so often? I owe about 10k on my TL and thoughts of selling it for around 13,000. I've been browsing around autotrader.com and craigslist in search of an S2000 to drive. Those little boogers are quite expensive, around 15000

So I went to drive an S2000 this morning in hopes of not liking it, and I love it. It was an 08 with 25k miles for 27,000. Way out of my price range but still, I pretty much shooshed the sales rep so I could focus on driving since it my first time in one and gave it all on the on-ramps of the interstate. I think I want one I have almost the same amount of leg room/head room as I do in my TL. I'm 6'4" and thought it was going to be difficult in the S2000 but unbelievably it wasn't.

You don't know what you want! Why not decide before you buy something else to drive for a year? A minute ago you needed a truck.

How much did you pay for the TL? How much interest are you paying (% and $)? How much tax and registration? Have you modified the TL at all?
Your money, your choice.

I paid 14.8k after taxes, OTD. I have a 6% interest rate but I only borrowed about 11k.. I had the rest in cash. It's $30 a year to renew tags, $100 a month on insurance. I've probably got about $1500 or so if that in my TL. I have the theory in my head that I'll ditch the TL, get an AP1 S2K and a motard.. Borrow more than what the S2K is worth and buy my motard with the rest?

Good choice on the S2k. I've been close to trading in the TL towards one 3 times now. I always back out because I can't give up my backseat.

I don't want to lead you in the wrong direction because it sounds like you like having a bigger vehicle. Personally I would get the S2k in a second but you should either keep the TL and get your moneys worth or get an suv. I'm keeping the TL until it dies and hopefully I can get an S2k for a weekend car. If I don't get the S2k until I'm 50, so be it. I've blown my money on shit that won't get me anywhere. I've been thinking about selling the TL for a down payment on a townhome in a few years. You always have to plan shit out.

Thanks Tyler^^^ Definitely can't do any love-making in an S2000 I've decided to keep the TL and get a supermoto bike.. It'd be a huge downgrade getting rid of the TL for an S2K right now and I'm not sure if I'm ready for that. I have so many mixed feelings about this whole situation but I think it falls back on me knowing what I have with my TL, knowing there's nothing mechanically/cosmetically wrong with it and that helps me sleep at night. Getting into an S2K or any other type of used vehicle brings that stress. The TL is the only vehicle of the 3 that I've had and not had to put money right back in it in repairs after buying it.

I'm glad you made the rational decision! I've had no problems with my TL mechanical wise (knock on wood) so that's another reason I've never bit the bullet on getting a S2k.

Be sure to post some pictures of the bike when you get it

And +1 on the Tacoma. I've driven a few at work and I really like them.
