Watching the superbowl, i saw many hyundai ads and the Genesis... holy shit did that actually look good.
i seriously am a car fanatic that like... you know, can tell every car by their headlight or tail-lights sort of guy and i seriously thought that it was a debadged benz or some shit
and claims of more room than a 7 series and the price of a 3 series
i no 3/3.25 of you guys wouldnt buy one over an acura but i was just surprised
anyone giving it a chance?

^ Please ... don't kid yourself. Every car company "copies" from one another in some form or another.
Obviously some "copy" more blatantly than others (ie some Chinese car manufacturers have no shame ... ) And if mimicking the shape and features of another company yet charging customers a fraction of the price with a great warranty ... then we should really hate on them, right? Guess BMW / Mercedes / Audi / Lexus / etc ... they only made perfect cars since their inception.
No comment -- it's too easy to make fun of that poster.

Hyundai=people who can't afford a Toyota or Honda but want an import.

and the Grandeur is a total rip off of the infiniti Q45

how handsome I am
Regardless, its a sweet fucking car. No questions asked. And at that price, if I were in the market for a sedan v6 +, I would seriously be considering this car.

If you feel good about driving a car that has exactly the same designs copied from other manufactures, knock yourself out...

hyundai has been comparing themselves to the higher class car manufacturers lately, but i would compare this car to a 300M, not a friggin 7 series or even a 3 series.

as far as gadgets, smooth ride, and quality the LS sets the bar. now grant it the LS isn't a track runner like the AMGs but for a rich old timer car the LS is a sweet ride.

it looks just like a camry to me to be honest, probably has the same amount of room too. and camry's have great reliablity, my brother's hand me down is at almost 400k with no problems on the original engine and transmission.

isn't there a whole thread on the Genesis? (Oh, and yes... there are pictures there of the interior)

I agree with others. I wouldn't compare this Hyundai to a BMW or MB. No way.
It's more reliable.

guys, it's call marketing... kinda like how Carl's Jr compares their $6 burger to the one's at high end restaurant's?

It's not meant to be competing with the 7 series or S class or LS or any of those high end big sedans. It's just a (relatively) poor man's version of those cars. It won't compare to them, but I think it looks great and if people can shell out 30+K for a Hyundai, it might do really well

Naw, they don't need a new name or anything like that, just a new design to stick on their cars.
And besides, Acura Infiniti and Lexus are only here because the parent companies are only allowed to import so many models under one name (I believe, might be wrong though)

Its because they are smart and realize americans are pompous and arrogant and the namesake on their car matters a great deal more then overseas. So, they created luxury divisions. But slowly divisions such as Lexus, who have managed to truly transform themselves into a high quality, high end product have spread the nameplate overseas.
And people who are ragging on Hyundai need to wake up and pay attention. They are no longer the POS shit box car company they were 8, 9, 10 years ago. They have made great strides and made them quickly (like in the last 5 years.) They are somewhere in the region of where Honda was in the early 90s. And that is not a bad thing.

Them wanting to compare themselves to companies that many may not think they are comparable might be unreasonable...yet it got people talking about it!!! IMO, I think that's the smartest marketing you can do these days. It's all about awareness and however you do it is why they invest so much money on marketing! Kudos to Hyundai
Now, me wanting to drive the thing is still questionable.

That was before they started producing more 'luxury' cars. You also have to realize Hyundai does offer lines of 'luxury' cars that you could honestly compare to one of the top lines from BMW/Bens/Lexus but they are not offered in USA. I've seen them in Korea and believe me they are great looking/well-built automobiles.
It's unfortunate, alot of ppl in USA have this 'cheap' image of hyundai but in reality the company itself is probably well profitable...

i love people talking shit about Hyundai....and up talking toyota/ honda. They are to young or arrogant to remember when people looked at those companies like they were a joke.
BTW, If you wanna brandwhore that no matter what lexus/ acura/ infiniti do they will never get the respect of being true luxury automakers.

Gotta realize that most people on this board have caviar taste on a White Castle budget.
As has been mentioned on numerous posts on this board, how do you think Honda started?
Hyundai will be a major manufacturer within 5 years.

Why are some people such staunch defenders of this company?

and i think a lot of you are missing the point. hyundai isn't necessarily stating that the genesis is a "7 series fighter." no, it's saying that it's the size of a 7 series for the price of a 3 series.
and as mentioned, it's getting people talking. i guess many haven't seen the genesis thread.
hyundai is working up some goodwill with its brand image and perception, and they're moving fast now.

The Genesis is awesome. The pictures in the OP are of the concept; IMHO the production version is better looking. See here:
www.hyundaigenesis.com
It's gorgeous; I don't care where they get their design inspirations from. Every car has some cues from other designs, intentional or otherwise. People think the Jetta's ass looks like the Corollas, or the new Mailbu's ass looks like a Passats - but who freaking cares. If you like the way it looks then that is all that matters.
Take a look at the interior... very nice design that makes most BMW interiors look clunky or non-free-flowing (most people agree BMW's interiors are quite ugly). It has an iDrive-like knob but is probably implemented much better (most magazines don't know how the iDrive could be any worse).
It's a rear-drive car with a full-size rear seat, active cruise control, adaptive headlights, hard-drive based navi, and an excellent warranty. They probably also don't bend you over $1,000 for metallic paint or $750 for folding rear seats or $3,000 for actual leather. And oh yea, it's gorgeous - no one here has really denied that - they've only said "well... umm... yeah.. umm.. it's a Hyundai so that's bad, right?? ummm..."

I will just add, Hyundai is coming at this at the right time with respect to a sputtering economy. Hence, the Genesis looks to be A LOT of car for the money. Provided Hyundai quality continues to be above average, I would be happy to roll out of my 07 AV6 into a 10 Genesis.

Imaginary rep points for that one.

people are way too quick to judge the book by the cover. they see the name "hyundai" and automatically assume
but we must remember the kind of reputations that hondas/toyotas/etc had too.
i don't know if people are just hating or feel threatened by what hyundai's doing. they point out that hyundai are copying designs. well, what car company doesn't? this has all been mentioned in the other thread about cars copying designs from each other so i don't want to get into that again.
the fact is hyundai are making big moves and are delivering what customers want. are they there with the hondas and toyotas yet? no. but they're catching up.
