Yesterday marked 3 years from the day I brought Sapphire home. I think this may now officially be the longest I've ever kept a car! My wife is as shocked as I am. I guess I learned something about myself - there is no replacement for displacement - V8s only going forward in my life.
Sapphire's odometer just rolled over 68,000 miles yesterday, which means I've averaged right around 10,000 miles a year. I paid her off last year and at this point have done nearly all the mods to her that I wanted to with the exception of a handful of things like headers, rear gears and some PDR, which hopefully all will still happen sooner than later. She's averaged 18.48 mpg over the past three years. Her best full tank was 25.56 mpg which happened in May of last year. I still get a smile on my face when I mash on the gas pedal. And on any given run to the grocery store you'll find me hitting the remote start on the way back to the car so I can hear the exhaust fire up from outside, which never gets old.
As with any ownership experience, it hasn't been all puppies and rainbows with Sapphire. She has had the back lighting burn out of the climate control multiple times, which hopefully has finally been solved, knock on wood. Her steering wheel has a very muted squeak which is caused by a rubber boot that loses lubrication over time under the dashboard near the firewall. She has a slight squeak in the front suspension usually only noticeable in the colder months. She has a slight vibration at certain speeds which I will need to find by process of elimination with the new drilled rotors. And lastly she needs to go in for her airbag recall, which I haven't found the time to yet but will soon.
This journey started with the news of finding out we were having a second child and needing the extra room, so I really only have one person to thank for encouraging me to look into Chargers, and that's my wonderful little pumpkin monkey 2 y/o daughter. She, along with my son, love going fast in Sapphire. As a dad of course those moments are few and far in between, but when they do happen and I see the smile on their faces and hear the giggles from the back seat, it makes it worth it.
Dude, I wish you'd take the time to write more like that. I loved that post. Congrats on loving your car and you kids and your life. Fantastic to read about, and I feel similarly.
Hit me up about PDR, dude. We have an excellent guy who does ours at the dealer.
Oh snap I didn't even think about that dude, I definitely will! Thanks for the info.

One day, I may even join the V8 crowd!
Thanks mang, I appreciate that. I got reassigned a new boss and position at work so I've been crazy busy but hope to post more once I get settled in. I can't wait until you get a V, and hopefully that V is preceded with a CTS.
Not a retrofit, OEM style projector housings. I got the headlights, bulbs, ballasts, anit-flicker, etc as a package deal from a guy that planned on putting them on his Charger but traded it in. Brand new never installed. Couldn't resist the price. The only thing that I'm not thrilled about is the bulbs are 8000k so I'll probably order some 4000k or 5000k before I install them.
I like the lights. That will definitely modernize the look. Good idea.
Thanks, T. I think when they're lit it'll make it look more modern, but the housing around the projector reminds me of the wheel design from a '69 Charger, so it'll kind of have a retro look all at the same time.
I'm going to be using DS2s with adapters. I'm trying to make this happen on the cheap, so I'm going with some inexpensive DS2 5000k bulbs. I'll look to upgrade in the future if they don't live a long life. Needless to say the 8000k bulbs are going into the garbage as soon as the 5000k bulbs show up.
Thanks for the link. I'm shamelessly going with some cheapies off of Amazon. I've had good luck with cheap HID kits in the past so hopefully the trend continues, but if not I know where to go if they don't last.
