speeding ticket in ny
https://acurazine.com/forums/showthr...ghlight=ticket
ok I wanted to post in this thread but was moved so thats the link....I just recently got a ticket but no amount just a court date and a court address. I was apologetic to the cop, turned on all the lights in the car and pulled over on a well lit area but still he decided to give me a ticket. I got caught doing 80 on a 55mph zone (Meadowbrook pkwy for those in LI, NY). Since there is no amount printed, I guess I have to appear in court, This will be my first time going to court and my second speeding ticket. My first one was about 3-4 years ago(50 on a 30mph). I was not racing or driving like a maniac but was just trying to get ahead of the car infront of me on both times.
In the thread above 2008typesBoi mentioned about calling the DA and paying a reduced fine. How can I go about this?
Also and If I have to go to court, what should I expect? Are they gonna raise my insurance? Point in my license?
Thank you guys

I feel like making this thread a sticky and/or I feel like saying do a search, but since it's Christmas season, I'm feeling "generous."
Plead not guilty on ticket, appear on court date, get in line to talk to the town atty/prosecutor; tell him/her you have a clean license and that you have not been to traffic school in the last 18 months; ask for a non-moving violation (no points); appear in front of judge and plead guilty to the reduced non-moving violation. If the cop that pulled you over is the prosecutor and a trooper, kiss your ass good bye because they will not reduce to a non-moving. In NY, the town where the ticket is issued can give non-moving reductions and charge you the same amount as if it were a speed ticket. So your "parking ticket" referred to as a 1201(a) could be a $200 ticket (or more). The town gets to keep that money. If it's a moving violation, the town does not get to keep the entirety of the fine, the bulk of it goes to NYS and the town gets a court surcharge ($35?). In essence, it benefits the town to make it a non-moving. In your situation, there were no aggravating factors (drunk, collision, racing, etc) so they might be likely to reduce.
Do not change your insurance or do anything to your policy like add glass protection as that will trigger the company to do a search w/ DMV. You likely will slip under the radar if given points (moving violation).
My view: when going to court, don't dress up. The judge will think you have more money than you really do and if he asks what you do for a living, tell him you're a student or something (non-paying, low paying, you get the idea).

Thank you so much for the fast reply chief...couldnt really sleep last night. I spoke to my friend who was in the same situation and I'll probably end up taking your advice. Thank you again.
Rule #1 REQUEST A WRITTEN DEPOSITION!
You will see that request on the back of the ticket where you would enter your info and your plea. If the cop fails to submit a written deposition within a certain period of time ( I forgot if it's 2 weeks or 4), the ticket will get dismissed when you're in court.

My friends sister is a cop, she told us that if the officer messes up (scratch out etc.) on any part of the ticket, it will be thrown out. I would do your research on this one and have a firm plan for your court date. Sucks you got the ticket though, hope everything turns out fine.

The first ticket he wrote he messed up on the date, at first he looked like he was just going to throw it out but he went back to the cruiser and wrote a new one. I bet if his partner wasn't there he would have thrown it out. kinda sucks tho..it sort of ruined the holidays for me, I don't drive fast or like a maniac but the time I decided to get pass the car in front of me, a cop was there on the side...grrrr
