Driving Tests
Driving Tests
I was just wondering since we have Canadian Acurazine members,
I am not sure if i am getting the right facts, but is your driving test really 3 hrs? I am really curious on the different standards expected in new drivers in Canada compared to the United States..
In California,
If you're 15 and a half, you are eligible to go take driving school and eventually take the written exam. Once you pass the exam with less than 8 errors, you receive your permit. You will be able to driving with ur permit with an adult for 6 months.. and you must have 6 hours of behind the wheel training with an instructor..
once you're 16 u take the behind the wheel exam... if you pass you will be driving under a provisional license until you are at the 18..
california also says you cannot carry passengers till you have one year on ur license..
--------------------
The driving test is basically
+you back up in a straight line
+you can stop correctly
+change lanes
+ neighborhood driving
+parking (not parallel)
Is it entirely different in Canada?

My driving test was a VERY long time ago, but it sure wasn't three hours long. A few years ago I was involved with a woman who had three teenage drivers, and I can recall they all received learner's permits at fourteen years of age and completed a driver's training course before taking their license examinations when they turned sixteen. The driver's course wasn't mandatory, and a licensed driver needed to be with them while they were operating a motor vehicle while in the possession of a learner's permit. I know their driving test wasn't three hours either, as I let one of them borrow my immaculate Grand National for her examination. What the hell was I thinking.................
Hope this info helps. Alberta, Canada, btw.

You're moving to Canada?
I still remember the day my 6-month provisional period was up. Freedom at last. Of course I drove without a 25+ year old passenger before and during the 6-month period but finally I could leave the house freely.

Never heard of a 3 hour driving test in Canada. Just the impracticality of it would make it next to impossible. The driving instructors would only get through a few tests per day, making the waiting list years-long.
shit.. i did the home taught course... all i did was fill in the papers and went to the dps office and took the permit test on a computer... there after i waited till i turned 16 and turned in all my paperwork and they handed me a license.. i didnt have to even be behind the wheel in front of the motor dept to get my license

Scary stuff, if you ask me. Oh, and if you failed, you could walk right back in and book another appointment for that same day if you wanted!.....Because if you had trouble passing at 9am, maybe you will have learned how to drive by 2.
I think it was an exaggeration but i have a friend that moved down to california from Vancouver, BC.. and she wasn't able to pass the driving test in California...
It's the same principle right?
