Not the IPL, the sport accessory muffler. A little bit louder then the IPL but not that aggressive. I read it's about the level of the Nizmo 370Z.

Nice.

Now throw in some intake?
Black out the front grill and headlight housing?
And some new wheels? Tires?
Just some simple springs to lower it a little?
Debadge the G37 emblem to clean it up a bit?

I hate this car!
Just an FYI.....
If I wasn't broke & it wasn't paid for I'd dump it.
It rattles, won't go anywhere till I mash the gas to a high rpm, I don't know how they claim it has the power numbers it does. It's a bit hard of a ride, it sucks in traffic as the brakes are really touchy, the drivers foot well gets REALLY hot on a long drive, the 7 speed trans is a joke, upshifts to soon, downshifts to late, & 7 speeds? have to downshift 3 gears to pass someone at 80. The interior is cramped, I have no spot to put my darn cell phone, the trunk is so small I can barley get 1 medium suitcase in it, & the wind & road noise are HORRIBLE!
Last time I get a small car like this.

end of rant.....

Dang.

Those are some pretty damning opinion on the G37.

I mean I thought the 3.7 motor would have more lower end grunt/push power?

I was actually thinking about a G37s sedan if/when I have to get out of the 3G TL.....

Add me to the list of unsatisfied owners. I sit and reminisce about my old cars on occasion, not once have I ever missed the G37. I miss my Civic more than that pile. If I had to do it all over again, I would've grabbed the 335i for sure.

Interesting.

Looks like the G37 is not as good of a ride as it could be. I was too focused on that nice high hp motor and rwd.

so the 335i is nice eh? I've thought about that as well....but afraid of the maintenance/repair cost on a BMW......

The motor is stout, no doubt about it. But even with 330hp, it doesn't feel like it's all "there" when you put the pedal down. It might be better in the 6MT models, but, I've driven a few 6MT 370Z's and still haven't felt the "oomph" that I would expect out of a bigger V6.

The 335i is nicer, more respectable as well as infinitely more mod-friendly. However, while the engines are very durable, other components are known to fail. Frequently at that. I.e. - HPFP.

Still, if I could go back, I would've chosen the 335i. Yes, the Infiniti may have been more reliable, but, the 335i would have kept me excited in terms of actually driving it. The trade-off of reliability for thrill is one that I'm willing to make. Over the years, I've grown up, switched jobs and learned the value of a dollar. So while having a not as reliable car isn't an exciting thought, having a car that I genuinely enjoy driving totally off-sets it.

Yes, the G may be more reliable, but it feels utilitarian. It feels like just a car. The 335i, especially a BPU one, is loads of fun. It really comes down to what you want, what you don't want and how much you're willing to spend. When I got the G37, it came at such a deal that I couldn't say no. If I had to buy it at cost, well I would've ended up forking over a little more for a used 6MT 335i and saving up a couple grand for unexpected repairs before modifying it.

CLIFFS:
G37
- more reliable, less fun, rattle trap at 15k miles already, stupid 7AT, doesn't respond well to mods.

335i
- less reliable, infinitely more fun, infinitely more mod-friendly.

It's an age old case of "pick your poison".

335 is an awesome car as well as an E46 M3. Even the 3G TL is good with its quirks

Here's a 2013 model right here, custom vinyl wrapping and all:

The Coupe weighs in at roughly 3800 pounds.

The G37 sedan is lighter...

never been a fan of nissan or infinitis TBH. Build quality, design, interior materials....all were a turn off for me, even when I saw a friend in high school driving a brand new G35. It just never did it for me. And from what I have seen in the used market, they havent stood the test of time; they fall apart from what I've seen. Yeah our leather is shitty, but nissans age the worst out of the (IMO) big 3 Japanese brands (toyota honda nissan)

agree with that 100%, i still own a highly modded 04 350z and its beating to drive these days. sits in my garage 350 days years. spent waaay too much money on it to sell it. rather just beat on it when im stressed a few times a year. i leased two g37s never had any issue but i would have never bought one out right to own it for any significant amount of time due to the reasons you have pointed out.

Recently switched over to Infiniti and so far no regrets. My friend has a g37s and he says the ride in my Q50s is wayyy better than the G. I do have to admit that the q50 without DAS "feels like just a car".

I can't really speak on behalf on the G37 or 350z ownership experience, but I wasn't really thrilled with my Altima SE-R 6MT either.

I bought it with 95,000 miles and honestly, the interior had pretty good fit & finish with little rattles and the leather felt better than my old 3G TL. The car felt pretty solid.

I didn't really like it as I put on the miles:

- Crazy VQ oil consumption
- Worn timing-chain guides (sounded like a belt-sander on cold starts)
- Low-oil pressure light coming on constantly
- The slave & master cylinder were super inconsistent,
- Clicky-axles
- Transmission felt like it was out of a tractor.

I loved the torque & the sound and I realize some of these items are wear & tear, but my Accord 6MT / CL-S6 / TL held up way better as the miles stacked up.

That's a lot of hate. Have had my 09 G coupe since 2010 brand new and 90k miles later it still gets up and goes, no rattles, and very reliable even in snowy months here in Chicago when I see other bmw's and rwd such cars are spinning their tires up minor inclines.

Different strokes for different folks I guess?

Dang very very good first hand info from prior G owners and also Nissan owners. Appreciate all the input.

I think the comparison that Nissan is the worst out of the big 3 Jap brands may be more true than not.

Man I had really set on a possible G37 as a future replacement but maybe I need to rethink.

Couple years ago a fellow co-worker had a 335i and had his fuel system fixed after it went dead on a commute and was several thousand fix (it was the dreaded high pressure fuel pump) and was looking to get about 15k from it.

The other issue is having the turbos.....would be awesome but still would be bit more time/money to maintain/repair

Actually...I've been really liking the E60 535i as well.

Was looking around for M5 opinions and came up on this blog post that listed 10 reasons why the 535i is apparently "better" than the M5:

^ I think you should go test drive one before drawing a conclusion as different people look for different attributes when it comes to a car. The OP is coming from a SRT8 so more than likely the G will be subpar in terms of speed when the two are compared. Slow in touch start up and malfunctioning DAS were a few of the issues being circulated when the q50 was released. My concern led me to start looking into the GS until I did a test drive. It simply wasn't sporty enough for me coming from a modded 3G TL. I took the bite and got the Q50 fully loaded with all the tech options. The 30 seconds it takes to load the in touch entertainment system really doesn't bother me and the few things I don't like about the car are cosmetic. No car will ever be perfect for any one person.

Yeah, I personally just have a real dislike for nissans/infiniti in general, but the Q50 has caught my eye. Almost jumped on a lease swap for like $350/month on it, only thing that held me back was the badge.

I also really like the new pathfinder, but that is about it from the lineup. Most of my experience with Nissans hasn't been great, had a couple frontiers that just felt cheap inside compared to Tacomas, my uncle has a Titan I borrow sometimes and it rides like shit compared to a Tundra/Tacoma. Had an Altima that was consuming oil and replaced the head, still consumed oil. Multiple knock sensor issues on other Nissans, bought a bunch of I30 infinitis for export in various states of disrepair....the list goes on. They just don't seem to hold up with age. Interior materials and switches rub off, cheap plastic everywhere (speaking speficially from my experience ) etc.

I did have a modded CLS6 too.....
The G seems reliable enough. Just past 35k miles(bought it with 21K) & so far only a battery, TPMS sensor, & a gas cap.
Gonna keep it...I really can't get into another car. Unless it's a vastly cheaper car.
I did forget 1 important hate. Push button start. I want a darn ignition key! I can't believe the industry has adopted that.

I was on transmission #2 and the car was consuming oil at an alarming rate. But what pissed me off more than that was the fact that the speakers decided to cut on and off intermittently and the car rattled like it was made of loose change. POS.

Touché'.. Hence why my criticism of cars is never met with any approval in real life. I beat the piss out of my toys. But still, the rattles were pretty common from what I gather via the forums. The audio had no reason to cut in and out. The transmission could've been my fault from pushing it, but I can't even begin to explain it burning oil. I got the car at 3k and it started at 10k.

On the other hand, I drove past an M37S today. Very pretty car. Then I remember my experience with the G and continue on in my soon to be rattle mobile.

I have the q50, and like fuzzy, its already a rattle trap at 16k miles. The chrome is peeling off the wheels, and the car has vibrated at highway speed since day one. As I type this, I've had a loaner for the last two weeks.

Not only does the car suck, but the dealers suck too. Dropped my car off on 1/29 and they haven't touched base with me since 2/1.

I want my Acura back....and then i want to immediately trade it for anything other then what i have now.

I ended up getting it. Well worth it IMO. There has been reported issues in extremely cold temps but Infiniti has a software update that fixes that. Sometimes I wonder how well the electronics will hold up over time but for now I'm just enjoying the car. Hopefully the dealer fixes all your issues.

Was only on some 2014's from what I've seen, but like TLDude876 said, it was addressed with software updates and some very early models needed a computer replaced from a bad seal that let moisture in. But it was all addressed and my '15 hasn't had any issues. Almost hate driving my mom's EX35 now because the steering feels almost loose and imprecise.

That said, I've had close to zero problems with my Q50. I have like 2 minor rattles, I've just been too lazy to leave it at the dealer and take a loaner while they isolate and address them. There was an issue with lines appearing on the lower screen bezel from a lamination problem, but it was only cosmetic and a revised part was released and it was replaced in like 20 minutes. So far, 10 months, 12k miles, and I still can't get enough of the car.
