So I was just thinking... Variety...

So, who wants more than one ride...

Let me just say now, this thread isn't very interesting... So don't waste your time if your not interested, I know people are busy...

A daily, a showpiece, and a beater...

I drove a 2003 Yukon last week, it was different....

I ran out of supplies while working on my 2007 RDX, and had to go into town to get more...

I know this is pointless, I just think the variety is cool... You also have the element to surprise those around you...

I know this because for a long time I drove a Kia Sportage and a Toyota Camry daily, and people would never know which one to expect...

Once again, sorry for the pointless thread, it's just a thought...

its easy to throw out ideas, but how practical are your ideas?

not very.
Time and cost come into play.

I like variety too, for me my V is my weekend / fun car. If I had to use it on occasion as my daily I could, but wouldn't be too happy.

I'm fortunate in that I car pool and only work 7 miles (round-trip) from home now. And when needed I use either the 4G (if my middle son isn't using it for school or work) or my wife's RX F-Sport.

I think I will always have 3 or more cars, one for the wife, one reliable car for me, and one project for me. I think alot of people here have multiple cars??

I'll admit... I'm a bit confused. Lots of people have multiple vehicles.... many in Car Talk included.

We've had multiple vehicles for a while now. Can't say there is really any element of surprise. Maybe that's the part I am confused about. Who's surprised and what are they surprised about? Our friends and family know what cars we own, so they're not surprised if we show up in one of our cars...

key phrase; fortunate enough to have.

others might only have 1 vehicle, because well....

every ones needs, wants and wishes will be different!

so, yes, if you're fortunate enough to be able to afford all three or four or how ever many vehicles are in the family,

At one point in our lives, my wife and I had two vehicles, her Elantra and my TL. When I wanted to sell the TL and get a S2000, I realized that going to Lowe's and doing household projects would be a hassle with two small cars, so we agreed to buy a truck after I found a S2000.

I'm extremely thankful that we have the truck. Not only for those house projects, but I drive it during inclimate weather and it's great for roadtrips too. It's fun to drive the truck for a day and get the S2k out afterwards and rip through the gears It's also hilarious to drive the S2k top-down when it's 40 degrees and people expect to see me in the truck

You have a good variety there, how's the RX?

I had a 2016 Camry SE as a rental just over three months ago now... That thing was pretty fun for a Camry...

What about when the DD is being repaired... It's always a good I idea to have one more vehicles than drivers...

I have yet to find a single car that does everything well. It just simply doesn't exist.

That's why many of us have ever more one, regardless of what the reason for having more than one is. Hauling kids, racing, convertible for fun, pure luxury, beater DD, truck for moving stuff, whatever, you name it.

A wagon can come close.

Like an old Legacy GT wagon.

Or a truck and a motorcycle. Bonus because you can put the motorcycle *in* the if necessary.

No, see, you're missing the point. The wagon can do a lot of things, but there are other cars that do what it does better.

A wagon can't haul like a truck can.

A wagon can't be nimble like a lightweight roadster.

There are really cool wagons, like the CTS-V, but it still can't excel in certain areas like another car can. And hence, why we own more then one car. Whether it's fuel economy, or blah blah blah

Generally, a car that is awesome for racing is likely a terrible car for DDing, and vice versa.

Wonder how few people in the world actually own a car, period. It's got to be a pretty small percentage.

Oh, don't get me wrong - I'm not one to talk about compromising on the quantity of vehicles one keeps under their roof.

I'm merely opining that if one was limited to a single vehicle, a sporty wagon is the way to go. It trades well for people moving, can be sporty-ish, will usually haul like a truck for what most normals will ever need, etc.

But admittedly, I'm a broken record. Plus greed is good; give me one of every vehicle.

when I got the TL, people doubted me and said; you'll be in a newer, cooler car in a few years.

I had planned to be in the TL for 10 years, and its already been 6, suckas!!

no car payment is a good car payment!

They're are some good vehicles that balance many attributes very well...

But, a pickup truck and an S2K will never be able to overlap abilities other than just being motorized transportation...

They have coupes that can turn into airplanes, and SUVs that can become watercrafts... But not a car that can become a truck!!!!

I know, I though if that the second I posted this...

But can the El Camino/ Ranchero do what the S2K can do...

I think these are referred to as "utes" (youtes)...

And there is a popular variant of the Pontiac G8 from last decade that looks cool... And the ugly Chevrolet SSR...

Hmm, maybe this is where Acura should go next...

I like wagons and crossovers...

Maybe this can be the next big thing again... Or it will be killed after five years like anything else different to come out... Like the ZDX, Crosstour, Venza, FJ Cruiser, Element, and so on......

Yeah, I get it...

Sometimes I think what if they bring back an old design and just update it...

Like the 3gen TLs... (Type S sedan)

Bring it back, give it modern tech... Update the bumpers, give it an 8 speed DCT, and SH-AWD, now that would be classic...

Then again, only a select group would buy it...

And who would spend $35k for something they could get for under $10k right now, unless the updates are worth it... Which some will want it...

^DCT's are actually quite good!

and one could argue that they did bring back the general shape of the 3G in the form of the TLX.

so, this thread evolved from having options and variety to "acura, get your shit together?"

Well, 6 Speed for sure, but we need an AT option for people like me who forget to shift and hit the limiter!
