So the Enclave needs a good buff-out....
I haven't been around much the last few days. The wife was involved in a serious accident. She was driving our Enclave during icy conditions, slid off the road at speed, and snapped a tall wooden telephone pole in half. Every airbag deployed. The front end of the car was demolished, simply demolished.
Here's the kicker: She walked away, declined transport to the hospital, and at worst had a little soreness in her legs. I have doubted GM build quality in the past, but no longer. The Enclave sacrificed itself for the wife.
The insurance company is saying "99% it's totalled" so far. At this point, it's about waiting for valuation for a check, since the Enclave is relatively new--we've only had it a few months. If they choose repair, I'll be fighting that.
And I'll be the first to say it: "That'll buff right out......"
RIP

...and I still can't talk her into a MDX as a replacement. She insists on another Enclave. After seeing this accident, I suppose I don't blame her. Looks like I'll be cutting GM another check soon.

I'm glad to hear your wife was unharmed in this accident. She still might want to get checked out though. Sometimes, adrenaline after an accident hides any pain. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if she isn't complaining about soreness today.
As for the car, damn! Looks to be totaled. Especially if all of the bags deployed. This would be a great opportunity to get something else, but if the wife wants another Enclave it is a nice vehicle. Why not.

Glad to hear your wife is OK. Did the Enclave have all seasons or snow tires? I live in northeast Ohio and am surprised at how long it takes before they salt the roads some times. I would definitely get a set a snow tires if I was planning to stay here.

Thanks, gents. Given I just bought a NSX, what she says she wants in a car, goes. If she wants another Enclave, no matter how much I'd love a MDX or Accord in the driveway, she shall get what she wants, it's only fair.
Her car was on all-seasons. I don't think even winter tires would have helped much here, honestly.
I examined her when we got home. Amazingly, just a bruise on the neck and a slight hand burn from the airbag.

Just got back from the tow yard, removing posessions from her car. I've never been in a car with all the airbags deployed, so I took a shot from the back seat:

It's a little creepy, honestly.

Glad she's ok.
Good to see that the Buick held up so well, I can see why she would want another.
Edit, I'd take a look at the XC90 as well. I think they look great and should be even safer.

Glad she's OK Bob. My wife has a Traverse, and she swears by that thing. People might knock the GM quality, but that thing saved her life. I would get another Enclave/Traverse in a heartbeat and just stash a little extra every month for maintenance/repairs if needed, which is rare. The one I got was very well taken care of and continues to be well-taken care of.
What happened to the one wheel? It looks like the barrel separated from the face of the wheel
Man, cars are pretty dang impressive these days. I'd hate to see what would've happened on the same case with a 20-30 year old car, even if it was new.
Glad she's doing ok, Bob!

The barrel sheared right off from the spokes which were still bolted to the studs. Gotta hit stuff at pretty good speed for that to happen I think.
Wow. Like the couple other (probably) simpletons above, I'm thoroughly impressed by the way the face of the wheel popped off like a hubcap.
I wouldn't have expected that.
Oh, and Bob, you should take your wife to see a doctor to get checked out.
Sometimes a you feel okay after an accident but a doctor will find something hurt. So it's always a good idea to see a doctor. You can look in the phone book for a doctor or maybe even use yelp to find a doctor for your wife to see.
But definitely get her to a doctor in case something starts to doctor. You don't want to doctor future problems because doctor doctor doctor. Doctor doctor doctor, doctor, doctor doctor doctor.
Oh, and go see a doctor.

I wouldn't have expected that.

Thankfully all is safe it seems.
Not to knock on GM/USDM cars...but I'd think that 99% of any major cars sold today would be able to keep the occupants fairly safe...can't think of any big name brands that sell cars that are rated "marginal" or even "poor" on the IIHS/NHTSA crash tests.
Speaking of which the Acura MDX is a Top Safety pick by the IIHS: Vehicle details

If the Mrs says she wants another Enclave, get an Enclave. It certainly did its job saving her! Buying a replacement car unexpectedly is no time to mess around... you can always trade it in for something else later.
You mean other than Acura, right? The 2016 TLX is Marginal on the small front overlap test: Vehicle details
