Now that I own a Mazda and I look at the other cars on the road, I realize, Mazda is doing just fine.
i didnt give it much thought until a couple months ago

i had originally wanted a regular 3 hatch, but then i realize id miss this power of my TL, so i started to look for a MS3, drove one a couple weeks ago and i was hooked. i just had to find the right one

There are different brands such as TRZ, Jbarone, and SURE. Its pretty much the same.

I would recommand Jbarone though. Pretty much everyone has Jbarone short shift plate stage2 kit(SSP+aluminum bushing ), you should probably install it too. Lol it reduces about 40% of shift throws and prevent you from missing 3rd gear.

Rmm and ssp are one of the cheapest and easiest things to install.
where did you get yours from?

also, did you see the post about the boost kinda tapering off around 6k? normal?

I got mine from CP-E directly when they had 30% discount sale on everything. They do this once a year. CP-E is one of the most expensive part makers, but they do their own R&D and whatnot. So the quality is probably the top of the line for our cars.

You should really check out Jbarone though. They are one of the vendors over at msf, and they make some quality parts with great pricing.

And, as for the boost tapering off around 6k, it is very normal. Our turbo gives up around 5700-5800rpm on a stock tune. In fact, if you are at the drag strip with no tune, the best way to achieve the fastest time is shifting at 5600-5700rpm.

This is why it is extremely important to get a tuning device like Cobb AP (the most popular choice) and CP-E Standback for our cars. If you look at the members over at msf, pretty much everyone has Cobb AP. I can go into more detail later, but my car now pulls strong until 6700rpm.

And with a tuning device, you can fine tune your map by adjusting fueling, timing, boosting, and pretty much everything that your car does to go forward.

You should come down to LA, so you can try driving my car. It's so different from the stock form.

As long as you mod your car in the right direction, I'm happy.

Make it clean!

Yeah, the stock bushings under the gearbox are actually made out of rubber, so when you shift hard, the entire housing moves around thus making you mis-shift.

Jbarone SSP Stage2 kit is what people get the most. It gives you the short shift plate, aluminum bushings, and heavier shift knob. With these items, you will feel like you are driving a miata's 6-speed.

thanks man

a turbo timer keeps the car running for a certain amount of time (depending on how the car was driven) after the key has been pulled to allow the turbo to "cool off"

Ohh interesting. I didnt know current turbo cars needed to do that. Is it only necessary after hard driving? I've been on the gti forums for some time (hopefully will own one, one day) and I've never come across it. Although I havent been lurking there for a good year. Is it just a good habit or one should always do it??

As I understand it, it used to be even more important in earlier turbos, before cooling improved. I think it's generally a good idea after any drive, but especially spirited driving where the turbo will get hotter. And again, as I understand it, you want to avoid having oil stop flowing while the turbo is still very hot (the oil can bake, essentially).

The odd thing is that it will become increasingly difficult to buy a new car without a turbocharger and very few people have any idea of how it works or have heard of a cool down period, even for a couple of seconds.

There really isn't much need for a turbo timer.

You just have to take less than a minute to cool down your turbo after spirited driving or highway driving. I think it's a good habit to have anyway.

$8k for a 180k TL with an exploding transmission ... Pass.

Congrats again on the MS3. It's a great car ... It just needs a couple of things upgraded to really shine ...

i might have to re-wax it. i was quickly running out of day light and rushed through it. i noticed the hood and other spots looked a little blotchy, so im going to wake up early and redo it.

yes, im a perfectionist.

you should've seen the TL. i waxed it, didnt like the way it came out, so i clayed it, then re-waxed
