SC430 vs TLS: Race Results

The video is in! Enjoy.

Here is the link to the video. If it doesn't work, try the 2nd one.

This was the 2nd of 2 races. The 1st was a lot closer and I won that one by .0952 sec, or about 1/2 to 3/4 of a car length.

While the race looks close at the end, remember the old angles playing tricks on you. The advantage was close to 3 cars lengths.
Also, here's the tail of the tape so you can see where we stood at the various timed points.

Spec.......SC430................TLS...........Adva ntage
R/T..........0.703................0.236............. 0.467
60'..........2.401................2.214........... ..0.187
330'........6.464................6.226............ .0.238
1/8.........9.771.................9.483............. 0.288
MPH.......74.35.................75.21
1000'.....12.614...............12.313...........0. 301
1/4.........14.988...............14.704...........0. 284
MPH........95.35.................93.60

He had a real bad run....2.4 60' out of a RWD car is piss poor. He was catching you though.

What happened on that first race when he got the jump on you? Did he win or did u pull that one out too? Rice ass run tho. You killed him off the line. How did u control your wheel spin?

Yep, he thought he would do better leaving it in drive that run. Just like I always tell people, shiftgate is faster for drag racing.

The first race he shiftgated as well and that race was real close. .0952 sec advantage to me, whew!

As for catching me, don't fall for the angle job. Remember how angles play tricks on you. Just look at the final 1/4 mile times. Over the last several hundred feet he only closed .017 of a second on me, and my final time advantage was over 3/4 of a sec.

Basically he was ripped a new one in that round. We could have gone to 115MPH or better before he would have caught me. :P

In the first race I won by a hair!

The margin was .0952 secs, and about 1/2-3/4 of a car length, but he was closing pretty good on that run.

Looks like I need some headers for the top end.

As for the hole-shot, that's what they call it. I killed him off the line. He was telling me how he was going to give it all he had that round, so I really worked the light.

Just look at the R/T difference and you can see why he had no chance at all in that race.

As for wheel spin, I finally got my viewer working with sound. As you can hear I did a little burnout, if you can call it that. That was just to clean any junk off of my tires so I had clean rubber contacting the track. Which by the way, they has some 7-sec cars out there that night so they had some VHT down which really helps off the starting line. Plus I dropped my tire pressure down to 25lbs.

Please . . . note that every race is different, so you have to play with it to get the right launch for your car. And do it everytime you hit the track. That way you won't do what I did the first run, like spin so bad that I was still spinning in 2nd some, which netted me a nice 16.43. :o Good thing I wasn't running him then. :P

nice vid, i need some toyos so i can get off the line like that. i dont think its possible to get a 2.1 60' on my stock michelins. get some headers and the sc would be completly out of the picture.

I wasnt relying on the vid, but rather your timeslip. Look at the difference in trap speeds, he was catching you pretty good.

Yes, his speed was coming on, but many of the other Type-S guys were running higher trap speeds as well.

It's not unusual for that to happen when one has a great hole-shot, or just has a car set-up to come on strong off the line.

In my case, both are true. My car is set up for the kill off the line. So while his trap speed appeard like he was REALLY gaining quickly, it wasn't as fast as the numbers would indicate.

Again, the key indicator is that he barely closed the time distance, buy less than 2-onethousandths of a second. That is not a very good number if he were really closing that fast. From a MPH point of view he gained less than 3% over the last 1/8th.

Hope this help explain it better. And you'll have to trust me. I've spent many hours at the track. And my old boss used to own a top fuel dragster and we went to a lot of big events as well.

His trap speed was higher but he wasnt really moving on you too much. Llike you said if the SC was going to catch you it would at much higher mph. Dont forget you were doing 93.6 and the SC was behind you ~3 car lengths. So you traveled ~another 40-45feet past the finish when he hit the trap speed of 95.3mph, but your speed at that point in time would have been just slightly higher than the 93.6. It would have taken the SC a long time to reel you in.

Yes, it would have taken him a ways to actually catch up to me. So even on a street race we would have run out of safe road.

It would have been interesting if he had a good launch and pulled off a 2.1 60'.

It would be, except that I don't think that the SC430 is that quick to 60'.

In both races I not only pulled him to 60', but to 330', 1/8 mile and 1000' marks.

I actually extended my lead at each of those points in both races.

Where he was coming on, finally, was the last 320'. So with an identical 60' time, we would have very likely been neck to neck, a la photo finish.

That's sweet, I've always been told by my Lexus friends that the SC's would kill the Type S, but I know better now..

Yeah it can be misleading...a higher trap speed can indicate too much wheelspin...
