Rode in my Coworker M3!!!

First, let me tell I am *not* impressed.

It was 97 M3 Stick, coupe and loaded.

The first thing I noticed, that this is not a luxury car that you would spend some $50k on. A Sport Coupe, you bet! Did I see leather, sure. High Quality interior? Of course!.

However, It was evident that the road/tire noise is filling the cabin. Sure, it would kick ass amd kill any car any time anywhere. However, if you ask me is this the car that I would like to commute with to work daily. No way! First, it is stick and that would make let you hate yourself if you got stuck in bumper to bumper traffic, road noise is nice if you would like to feel the car in sunny day while taking some moutain curves, but not that nice when you want to enjoy some 80mph cruising time...

This is just my opinion, I may, however, like to drive that M3 one day in the summer

Night_Hawk,

I 100% completely agree. I think many of us lose sight of the fact that our cars have more luxury than sport and we bought them for that very reason. Manuals are fine and I would love one in the CL but with daily commuting, I much prefer the auto with a CD going in the background not distracted by the outside noises of the other cars.

The luxury features in our cars are what contribute to the extra weight of the vehicle.

I'm sure you'll feel even more this way about the S2K/ITR.

Mike, I disagree. The S is 500~ pounds heavier than the P even when both don't have the NAV. So the extra weight is that big engine and better tranny that gives that extra 50hp.

Nope. According to Edmunds the CLS weighs in @ 3538 & the CLP @ 3461 which is a difference of 77 pounds. The engine and the tranny are the same in both models. The CLS was just tuned a little for the extra 35 ponies.

While I definitely find the CL-S a more relaxed highway cruiser, the M3 is far from a car that would annoy its driver on the open highway or stuck in traffic.

For a performance car, its got a relatively light clutch, which makes traffic jams a snap. As far as road noise, I haven't noticed any increased noise levels between the either of the two cars. I'd be happy commuting in either car, as long as I wasn't driving in bumper to bumper traffic EVERY day.

Oh... hmm... i wonder where I got that 500 piund difference. maybe between the CL and TL?
How exactly do that 'tune' the engine? What is the real difference? Look at the Firebird/Camaro its the same 5.7L engine as the Corvette... Couldn't a good mechanic tune that engine and get the same performance as a Corvette?

Don't know The TL weighs in at 3493 lbs. I tried checking the acura site but it's way slow.

Here are the enhancements to the CLS.

higher compression ratio
a two-stage induction system
free-flowing exhaust

I do not even compare the 3series to the CLs. The 3 series is clasified as a sub-compact and the CLS is a mid-sized car.
